무용시와 무용극의 구조적 특성에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 논문의 목적은 주제성을 지향하면서 내재적으로 문학적인 구조와 연관을 가지고 있는 '무용시'와 '무용극'이라는 두 장르의 구조적 특성을 규명하는 것이다. 이 논문에서는 각 장르의 특성을 문학에서의 '시'와 '극'의 구조와 연관해서 고찰하는 것을 중점으로 하고 있다. 본문에서는 가장 먼저, 그 구분의 기준이 확고하지 않은 '무용시'와 '무용극'이라는 장르규정의 근거를 마련하기 위해 문학에서의 장르론을 참고로 먼저 다루어 보았다. 문학의 장르가 가지고 있는 신축성과 융통성이 무용에 문학적 장르개념을 도입하는데 하나의 기반이 될 수 있다고 보았다. 그리고, '무용시'와 '무용극'이라는 두 장르의 설정과 그 타당성을 설명하기 위하여 무용사적으로 찾아볼 수 없는 '무용시'와 '무용극'에 관한 논의들을 제시했다. 그 다음에는 무용과 문학을 관련지어 논하기 위한 전제로서 문학언어와 무용언어의 특수성에 관해 고찰했다. 여기서 무용과 문학의 언어가 가지고 있는 공통적인 측면을 제시함으로써 문학적 구조를 무용에 연관시키는데 있어서 전제가 되도록 했다. 그리고 그 다음에는 시어로서의 움직임과 무용시에 관해 논하면서, 무용시라는 장르의 특징을 규정했고, 시의 요소인 이미저리, 상징, 비유등과 무용에서 그에 상응하는 효과를 낸다고 생각되는 것을 연관시켜 보았다. 이 과정을 통해 무용시의 특징이라고 할 수 있는 몇가지 특성을 이끌어냈다. 서술적인 전개 기법이나 장면간의 인과성은 무용시에서는 그렇게 중요시되지는 않는다. 시적으로 처리된 움직임의 효과로 주제를 형상화하고 그 핵심에 접근하는 것이 무용시의 특징이다. 그리 안무자/무용수 자신의 주관이 강하게 투영되며 주제가 압축적으로 표현된다는 점도 중요한 무용시의 특징이다. 그 다음 장에서는 서사물의 구조적 특성을 통해 무용극이라는 장르가 가지는 구조적 특성에 관해 논했다. 세이무어 채트먼(Seymour Chatman)의 서사물에 관한 구조주의적인 접근(1980)을 참조로 했다. 그는 서사물의 구조를 이야기와 담론(발현의 방식)으로 2원화시켜 보고 있는데, 이러한 구조와 연관시켰을때 무용극은 이야기를 전달하는 매체가 될 수 있다. 춤은 이야기를 전달하는 효과적인 방식의 하나이며, 언어적인 서사물과는 다른 성질을 갖는 발현의 매체이다. 이 연구에서는 무용극을 이야기를 전달하는 하나의 매체로 보고 그 '진술'의 특이성에 대해서 집중적으로 고찰했다. 그리고, 플롯, 성격, 행동의 극적 요소를 통한 접근으로 무용극의 구조적 특성에 관해 보다 구체적으로 다루었다. 이 과정을 통해서 무용극이 이야기 서술이라는 측면을 반드시 기본적으로 포함해야 한다는 점을 강조했다. 그리고 작품에 따라 어떻게 변화되어 나타나든간에 무용극은 기본적인 구성요소로서 플롯과 성격, 행동의 측면을 가지고 있어야한다는 점도 논의했다. 결론에서는 이 연구를 통해 이끌어내어진 '무용극'과 '무용시'의 구조적 특성에 관한 요약과 두 장르 각각의 특성, 그리고 뚜렷하게 대조되는 측면을 정리했다. 이 논문에서 '무용시'와 '무용극' 장르에 관해 구체적 접근을 시도함으로써 무용의 유형을 나누는데 있어서 기본적인 기준이 될만한 개념들을 제시하려 했다. 아울러 내재적인 문학적 구조가 무용작품에서 어떻게 나타날 수 있는지를 살펴봄으로써 문학과 관련한 무용작품의 특성을 구체적으로 파악하고자 했다.;The purpose of this study was to provide the valid definitions of 'dance poem' and 'dance drama,' and to examine the structural characteristics of the two genres which have related to structural basis of literature. In order to provide the theoretical basis for this study, the theories of genres in literature and historical outlines of 'dance poem' and 'dance drama' were presented. And the characteristics in the languages of literature and dance were examined. In literature, selected words are made into literary ones when used in different ways. The language of dance is chosen from everyday movements just like that of literature from the wide range of ordinary words. In dance, chosen elements are manipulated in the process of extension, transformation, distortion, or exaggeration. The language of dance must achieve something more than mere literal meaning ; an expressive meaning. The structural characteristics of 'dance poem' were discussed in relation to the consisting elements of poem; 1) imagery, 2) symbol, and 3) figuration. In a dance poem, the narrative way of development and causality of dance are not emphasized, rather its theme is visualized with the effect of movements which are treated in poetic ways. Moreover the subjectivity of choreographer and dancer is projected intensively into a dance. And the poetic self of choreographer and dancer builds up the appearance of dance. So the dance reflects the ideas and feelings of its creator. The structural characteristics of 'dance drama' were examined in relation to the consisting elements of drama ; 1) plot, 2) character, and 3) action. These elements can be altered to some extent if a work specially requires. In any case, the elements must be contained as basic components of 'dance drama,' and the function of conveying story must be preserved. In a dance drama, the subjectivity of choreographer seldom reflects. In this study, 'dance poem' and 'dance drama' were discussed in order to provide the alternative to define the genres of dance. Throughout the analysis of the structures in 'dance poem' and 'dance drama,' the definitions and the structural characteristics of the two genres were presented.
