걸음마기 아동의 순응행동에 관련된 변인들

Abstract

본 연구는 아동의 순응행동에 미치는 변인들의 효과를 개인적 특성과 환경적 측면에서 살펴보는 데 주목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 아동의 개인적인 특성으로는 성, 연령, 기질을, 환경적 특성으로는 어머니의 양육태도와 요구내용을 그 변인으로 선정하였다. 연구대상은 서울 지역에 위치한 중류층 가정의 18~36개월까지의 걸음마기 아동과 그 어머니 153명(남아 81명, 여아 72명)이었다. 연구를 위한 자료는 어린이집 교사를 통해서 또는 개인적으로 어머니에게 질문지를 배부하여 회수하는 방식으로 이루어졌다. 걸음마기 아동의 기질을 측정하기 위해서는 Buss와 Plomin(1984)이 개발한 EAS (Emotionality, Activity, Sociability)를 번안한 전수연(2002)의 척도를 사용하였고, 어머니의 양육태도를 측정하기 위해서는 Robinson, Clyde, Barbara, Susanne와 Craig(1995)이 개발한 척도를 윤상근(2004)이 한국 사회에 적합하도록 수정한 척도를 사용하였다. 한편, 걸음마기 아동에 대한 어머니의 요구내용과 순응행동을 측정하기 위해서는 Kuczynski와Kochanska(1995)의 연구를 참고로 연구자가 개발한 척도를 사용하였다. 수집된 자료에 대해서는 기초분석을 위해 빈도와 백분율, 평균 및 표준편차를 산출하였고, t-검증 및 일원분산분석과 Duncan 사후 검증을 실시하였다. 그리고 연구문제 분석을 위해서는 Pearson의 상관관계분석과 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 모든 통계적 유의도는 p<.05 이하 수준에서 검증되었다. 본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 각 변인들간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과, 아동의 기질 중에서는 정서성이 순응행동과 유의한 부적 상관을 나타내어, 부정적 정서가 강한 아동은 성인의 요구에 대체로 덜 순응적인 것으로 나타났다. 어머니의 양육태도 중에서는 민주적 양육태도가 순응행동과 유의한 정적 상관을 나타낸 반면, 독재적 양육태도는 순응행동과 유의한 부적인 상관을 나타내 민주적 양육태도는 걸음마기 아동의 순응행동에 중요한 변인이었다. 또한 아동의 순응행동은 어머니의 요구내용 및 아동의 성에 따라서도 차이가 나타났다. 즉, 걸음마기 남아는 기질적으로 부정적인 정서가 낮을수록, 어머니의 양육태도가 민주적일수록, 아동에 대한 어머니의 요구가 ‘유능한 행동’이나 ‘돌보는 행동’과 관련된 것 일수록 순응하는 경향이 있었다. 여아의 경우는 기질보다는 특히 어머니의 양육태도에 밀접한 영향을 받는 것으로 나타나, 어머니 양육태도가 민주적일수록, 독재적인 경향이 낮을수록, 허용적인 경향이 낮을수록, 그리고 어머니의 요구내용이 ‘돌보는 행동’, ‘적절한 행동’, ‘유능한 행동’에 관련될수록 순응적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 아동의 순응행동에 미치는 각 독립변인들의 영향력을 파악하기 위하여 위계적 회귀분석을 한 결과, 아동의 순응행동에 영향을 미치는 변인은 아동의 활동적 기질, 어머니의 민주적 양육태도, 유능한 행동이나 돌보는 행동에 대한 어머니 요구내용인 것으로 나타났다. 이 중 걸음마기 아동의 순응행동에 가장 높은 설명력을 가진 변인은 어머니 요구내용 중 돌보는 행동이었으며, 다음으로 아동의 활동성, 어머니의 민주적 양육태도, 그리고 유능한 행동에 대한 어머니 요구 순으로 나타났다. 이 같은 결과는 걸음마기 아동의 순응행동에 있어 어머니의 요구내용과 아동의 활동적인 기질적 특성이 가장 중요한 변인이며, 어머니의 애정적이고 긍정적인 양육태도 역시 중요하다는 것을 시사해 준다. 본 연구는 걸음마기 아동의 순응행동과 이와 관련된 변인들 간의 관계를 밝히고, 순응행동에 있어 아동의 기질과 어머니 양육태도 및 요구내용의 중요성을 확인함으로써 아동의 사회화에 실제적 정보를 제공하였다는 점에서 연구의 의의를 지닌다.;The main purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of child characteristics and environmental factors on toddler's compliance. To the end, the relations between child's characteristics (sex and temperament) and maternal behaviors and the content of maternal demands and child's compliance were examined. A total of 153 toddlers (81 boys and 72 girls) and mothers was the subject. Data were gathered via questionnaires developed to measure child's temperament, mother's parenting, the content of maternal demands and child's compliance. Mothers reported on these 5- point- rating scales. Data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Pearson's correlation coefficient and Hierarchical regressions analyses. The major results of this study were as follow: A preliminary analysis showed neither gender nor age difference in child compliance. Correlation analyses revealed significant correlations between child's emotionality, mother's authoritative and authoritarian parenting, the content of maternal demands and child's compliance. That is, the higher the child's emotionality and mother's authoritarian parenting were, the lower compliant the child showed. And the higher mother's authoritative parenting and content of demands were, the higher compliant the child showed. The results of hierarchical regressions analysis indicated that child's activity level was the most significant variable to predict child compliance, and maternal behavior and the content of maternal demands in order were also significant variables. In conclusion, child's temperament, maternal behavior and content of maternal demands directly or indirectly predicted child's compliance.
