TPM활동요인별 기업성과에의 영향에 관한 연구

Abstract

Automation has been the pivot of every manufacturer's effort to achieve competitive edges in today's markets. Manufacturers already have achieved the stage of manufacturing-line automation and now are trying to apply a management-integrated automation system so called ClM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) to optimize the efficiency of management. This rapid development in automation inevitably requires a newly developed maintenance system for its maximum performance. TPM(Total Productive Maintenance) is known as one of new systems that satisfy this need. This study tries to analyze how TPM works in domestic manufacturing industry by estimating a two-stage model. First stage tests the effects of five TPM-factor variables (TFV : (1) Small group activity & Autonomous maintenance, (2) Education S Training, (3) Planned maintenance, (4) Improving effectiveness of each piece of equipment, (5) Safety & Environment) to two TPM-perfomance variables (TPV : (1) Overall equipment effectiveness, (2)Maintenance cost). Second stage tests how two TPVs affect the industry's productivity level. By combining those two stages, this study uses a model to explain how TPM, represented by TFVs, works to improve productivity via TPVs. Multivariate and univariate regression and correlation analyses were performed. It is shown that five TFVs work in two different ways to improve the industry's productivity level. (1) Small group activity & Autonomous maintenance, (3) Planned maintenance, and (4) Improving effectiveness of each piece of equipment improve productivity level directly and via TPVs concurrently while (2) Education & Training and (5) Safety & Environment have significant effects on productivity only via TPVs. This can be explained by the fact that (2) Education & Training and (5) Safety & Environment are rather indirect or supportive factors for the production while the other three factors are more directly related to the production. In separate-stage analysis, (1) Small group activity & Autonomous maintenance and (5) Safety & Environment are shown to have most significant effects on TPVs among five TFVs in the first stage. In the second stage, [1] Overall equipment effectiveness has relatively more significant effects to the productivity level.;최근 기업들은 제품품질의 경쟁력 강화를 위하여 설비의 자동화를 중심으로 대외 경쟁력 확보에 전력하고 있다. 설비의 자동화는 생산라인의 자동화 단계를 지나 경영관리까지를 집적화한 CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing)시스템으로 발전되어 경영효율을 극대화시키고 있다. 이와 같은 집적도 증가는 필연적으로 집적된 자동화 설비의 보전문제의 심각성을 더해주게 된다. 따라서 설비효율 고도화를 위한 새로운 관리 기법의 필요성이 어느 때 보다도 강조되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 설비효율 고도화를 위한 새로운 관리 기법으로 논의되고 있는 TPM(Total Productive Maintenance)을 우리나라 기업에서 보다 효과적으로 수행하기 위해서 TPM의 구체적인 활동들이 기업성과에 반영되는 과정을 알아보려는 것이다. 즉, TPM을 연구 대상으로 하여 우리 나라 기업에서 실시하고 있는 TPM을 활동요인 별로 나누어 각각의 활동들이 기업성과에 미치는 영향력의 반영과정 및 정도를 분석하고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위한 연구 분석 모형은 실제 기업에서 실시되고 있는 TPM의 5 본주 활동인 (1) 소집단 및 자주보전, (2) 교육 및 훈련, (3) 계획·예지보전, (4) 개별개선 (5) 안전 및 환경의 5가지 TPM 활동요인변수들이 설비종합효율과 보전비 수준이라는 TPM 활동성과변수에 영향을 미치는 첫번째 단계와 TPM활동성과가 기업성과인 생산성으로 이어지는 두번째 단계로 이루어 진다. 이러한 2단계 분석모형을 사용하여 각각의 TPM 활동요인변수들이 TPM활동성과변수들을 향상시키고 나아가 기업성과로 연결되는지를 분석하였다. 아울러 각 TPM활동요인변수들이 TPM활동성과의 향상에 기여하는 영향력도 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 5가지 TPM 활동요인변수들이 활동의 특성별로 2가지 방법으로 기업 성과에 기여하고 있음을 파악하였다. 즉, 직접 설비를 대상으로 하는 활동의 특성을 지닌 소집단 및 자주보전 활동, 계획·예지 보전 활동, 그리고 개별개선 활동은 TPM 활동성과 뿐만 아니라 직접 기업성과에까지 반영되고 있으나, TPM실시의 지원 및 배경 활동으로서의 특성을 가지는 교육 및 훈련 활동과 안전 및 환경 활동은 TPM 활동성과의 향상이라는 중간단계를 거쳐서만 기업성과에 반영되는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 교육 및 훈련 활동과 안전 및 환경 활동이 기업성과에 직접적으로 반영되지는 않지만 TPM 활동성과를 향상시켜 결국 기업성과의 향상에 기여하므로 기업에서는 장기적인 관점에서 TPM의 지원 및 배경 활동으로서 이 활동들에 대해 꾸준한 지원과 실시가 있어야 할 것이다. 또한 TPM 활동요인변수들이 TPM 활동성과의 향상에 기여하는 영향력의 분석에서는 소집단 및 지주보전 활동과 안전 및 환경 활동이 TPM 활동 성과의 향상에 큰 영향력을 발휘하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러므로 TPM으로 인한 기업상과를 향상시키기 위하여 기업에서는 TPM의 5본주 활동 중에서 상대적으로 낮은 영향력을 가지는 것으로 나타난 교육 및 훈련 활동, 계획·에지 보전 활동 그리고 개별개선 활동에 보다 많은 관심과 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.
