패턴반복을 이용한 조형공간 표현

Abstract

'공간'이라는 주제는 모든 예술분야에 걸쳐서 많은 예술가들에 의해 그 본질이 탐구되어 왔으며, 그 작업은 지금도 계속되고 있다. 그러나 공간의 개념은 시대와 사상의 흐름에 따라 변화를 거듭했고, 공간의 개념을 이용한 예술의 표현양식도 시대에 따라 그 양상을 달리해 왔다. 현대 섬유예술분야에서 공간의 표현양상은 평면적 공간, 부조적 공간, 입체적 공간 그리고 환경적 공간으로 분류할 수 있다. 본 연구의 범위는 섬유예술의 이러한 네가지 공간중에서 평면적 공간에 한정하여 연구하고자 하였으며, 기하학적 형태인 입방체를 중첩, 반복하여 화면을 구성함으로써 평면에서의 조형공간을 표현하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이론적 배경으로는 조형적 공간을 중심으로 조형예술에서의 공간개념과, 패턴을 반복하여 작품을 제작하였을 때의 조형효과에 대해 살펴보았다. 또한 현대의 섬유작품 중에서 패턴의 반복을 이용하여 3차원의 공간을 표현한 평면작품들을, 작품제작에 사용한 방법에 따라 weaving, stitching, quilting, dyeing으로 분류하여 분석하였다. 작품제작에 있어서는 기하학적 형태인 입방체를 반복해서 구성함으로써 평면화면에서 3차원의 공간을 창출하는 작품을 제작하였는데, 이 때 화면에 중심을 설정하지 않고 구성하여, 표현된 화면이 전체의 일부분인 느낌이 들도록 하였으며 기법은 평직과 slit만을 사용하였다. 이러한 연구과정을 토대로 패턴을 반복하여 평면 tapestry를 제작한 결과, 입방체가 소유한 입체감과 함께 배경과 패턴 사이의 명도차에 의해 형성되는 거리감으로도 깊이 있는 공간감(空間感)을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한 입방체의 배색 방법과 완성된 작품 각각의 piece들을 배치하는 방식에 따라서 공간은 더욱 확대될 수 있었다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 tapestry작품에서 평면적 공간을 표현하는 방식을, 즉 표현영역의 확대를 도모할 수 있다. 그러나 본인은 작품제작에 있어서 형태와 색변화의 다양한 시도를 하지 못하였으므로 패턴을 중첩시키는 방법의 창작과 좀 더 다양한 색채를 이용한 공간표현 연구가 필요하다고 본다.;The essence of subject called 'space' has been explored by many artists in various fields of art and the study is continued. The concept of space has been changed by the trend of time and thought, and then changed an aspect the expression style of art that using concept of space. The appearance of expression for space is categorized into two dimensional space, relief space, three dimensional space and environmental space. This study is within the limits of two dimensional space among four division. The purpose of this study is to express plastic space on the flat surface by overlapping and repeating cubes, a one of geometrical forms. Theoretical background for this study is the concept of space which is reflected in plastic art and plastic effect which are showed in the works with pattern repetition. Moreover among the modern fiber arts, plain and relief works embodying three dimensional space with pattern repetition are divided and analyzed for this study on the basis of manufacturing method: weaving, stitching, quitting and dyeing. The process of my works depicted three dimensional space on the flat surface by repeating a geometric form of cube, and also that is have a feeling to be a part of the whole. Plain weaving and sliting are the techniques that are used. The conclusions worked plain tapestry of pattern repetition based on this study are acquired deep space effect that is formed distance by cubic effect in cubes, and lightness difference between background and pattern. Besides, it was found that the space can be expanded by how each piece of completed work is arrayed and colors are arranged. The tapestry work composed from this study allows extension of expression style on the flat surface. But it is thought to be necessary to develop the method of pattern overlapping and to attempt spatial expression with more various colors.
