Bound Weave를 응용한 Rug Design 연구

Abstract

Due to the gradual enhancement of social structure and standard of living, man has been pursuing the better cloths, food and shelter. Nowadays the living space is changing into the place which can provide man with not only the primary purpose to live but also the pleasant living condition and the chance to express individual characters. Especially rug, one of household furnishings in living space, is widely used for interioring floor as practical and decorative uses. However we can easily find that the most of rugs in our neighbors are imported one with very high cost or local ones which are imitated of traditional design from foreigns'. So, to develop independent and characteristic rugs first and urgent step in rug art. In this regard is the this thesis is prepared to provide the weft-face weaving skill in rug weaving, to encourge the demand of rug and furthermore to present the rug buyers to have more opportunities to choose and make practical application of rug design which are more sensible and beatiful among the mass production of mechanical weaving rugs. As an reserch course, the theoretical study of the development status in rugs in Europe, Orient and Korea was performed and then weft-face weaving skill in rug weaving was concentrated and studied. And then product of rugs using boundweave and its applied structure, one of weft-face weaving, was tried. Consequently, it is found that the weft face weaving has merits that its structure is steady and tight, but flexible and the variety of pattern and color which is in harmony withmodern arts can be applied to it at artists' own intention. Upon this opportunity I hope this study can contribute to encourage the demand of rugs and provide the moment to develop the rug art. Eventually the textile artist has hardly taken interest in rug art because rugs have been regarded as a kind of decoration not arts. In conclusion the artists' deep understanding and sincere study of traditional rugs would be vital for the development of modern rug art and the pursuit of, variable skill, technique and design in rug art is highly required.;현대의 사회 구조와 생활 수준의 향상으로 사람들은 보다 나은 의, 식, 주 생활을 추구하고 있다. 특히 주거 공간은 현대에 와서 실제의 기능과 목적외에 쾌적한 생활여건과 개성을 보다 풍부히 담을수 있는 공간으로 변모되어 가고 있으며, 그 중에서도 RUG는 바닥장식재로써 실용성과 장식성을 겸하는 인테리어 용품으로 인식되어 오늘날 다양한 용도로 쓰이고 있다. 하지만 우리나라 RUG를 살펴보면, 중.고가의 수입품이거나 전통 RUG 문양을 국내업체가 복제하여 생산해 낸 것들이 대부분이어서 독자적 개발이 시급히 요청되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 많은 RUG WEAVING 중에서 WEFT-FACED WEAVE로 표현되는 기법을 제시함으로써 RUG 수요도에 부응하고, 나아가 대량 생산되는 기계직 RUG에 이를 적용하는 여건을 마련하여 일반 RUG 수요자들에게 감각적이고 미적 조형성을 갖춘 RUG 디자인을 선택하여 활용할 수 있는 기회를 넓혀 주려고 한다. 연구 과정으로는 먼저 이론적 배경을 기반으로 오늘날의 실용적이며 장식적 RUG로 발달한 과정을 동.서양 및 한국으로 나누어 재조명해 보고 이때 RUG에 사용되는 기법들을 알아 보았다. 작품제작에 있어서, WEFT-FACED WEAVE 로 표현되는 다양한 기법중에서도 BOUNDWEAVE의 조직과 응용조직을 이용하여 좀더 민속적이며 생명력 있는 RUG로써 패턴의 다양함을 표현하고자 하였다. 그결과 WEFT-FACED WEAVE는 다른 다양한 RUG WEAVING중에서 조직이 유연하면서도 단단하며 또한 Boundweave는 기하학적인 패턴이 화면을 구성하고 구조적이고 그래픽적인 특징을 지니며, 작가의 개성에 따라 현대 감각에 맞는 다양한 패턴과 색채 계획을 세울수 있었으며, 특히 Boundweave는 threading과 패달의 방법에 따라 여러가지 분위기가 다른 패턴을 창출할수 있어서 Rug를 제작할때 실내의 특성에 따라 디자인을 계획할수 있었다. 그동안 RUG가 예술적 측면보다는 장식용품으로 인식되어 섬유 예술가들의 창조적 작업에서 제외 되어 왔지만, 예술가들의 전통 RUG에 대한 깊은 이해와 연구가 현대 RUG 제작의 활력소가 되어 다양한 기법과 디자인등을 다각도에서 실험 연구하는 자세가 필요할 것으로 보여진다.
