Abstract

Son Chang-Sub is one of the most important writers of the post war period in 1950s. He critically showed the mind of one who experienced the war and the writer's thought of the society through 'morbid character'. The most researches of Son have been made attaching importance to the character and psychological study. But in the case of the study of character, as the method of the classification was superficial, the research of remote cause was not enough. And in the case of the psycological study, as the analysis was limited to several works, a consistend study of works is wanted. The most important thing which we can find in Son's works is the relationship between characters. Especially we can find the antagonism between charaters which is due to the different consciousness. So it is a trial full of meaning to research the characters' process of structuring the consciousnesses in Son's works, and with the research we can find the distinctive quality of Son's works. So in this thesis, with all of Son's works, I analyze the meaning of women as the object of fictitous desire and of the desire which exists on the unconscious, and with the analysis I examine the meaning of the works closely. The analysis of the desire is based on the 'Theory of the desire' of Jaque Lacan. Lacan devided the process of cognition, wbich has something to do with the dissociation of subject,into the Imagenary, the Symbolic, and the Real. 'The Imagenary' is a type of exitence which cannot make a distinction between oneself and the Other. An attributes of the Imagenary is the 'dual relationship', and in this period of 'the Imaginery', their is only dual relationship, a relationship between a baby and a mother. 'The Symbolic' is made up when an outsider appears between a baby and a mother as a Symbolic father. Through 'the Symbolic' the desire comes into existence on unconscious and the desire is originated from lack. The subject wants to make up for the original lack which come into existence when the subject is seperated from the mother with the object. The subject means a compensation for lack. But the unconscious desire never can be satisfied with the object and the desire repeats the movement to another object forever. In A of chapter Ⅲ, I classify the common behaviors in the works in order to analyze the characters' desires. The characters' behaviors and desires can be divided into the 'desire of fixation' which is represented by the word 'lying' and the 'desire of revenge' which is represneted by the word 'being frustrated'. First the desire of fixation shows the character's special feature of 'the Imaginary' and it comes into existence because of the lack of the maternal love. The character's special feature of fixation is showed in the space of the 'Room'. Second, the character who cannot admit appearence of the outsider when he enter the 'tripartite relationship' from the dual relationships show an offensive tendency. The offensive teadency of character originally comes into view as a desire of killing the symbolic father of the tripartite relationship. In B of chapter Ⅲ, I examine the meaning of woman as object of desire. The character who has the consciousness of lack tries ,to compensate the lack for the object . The character who has consciousness of lack of maternal love assumes woman an original maternal love in a transcendental ense, and inquires woman of love in order to conpensate the "non-existence". But the charaeter's trial to get the object fails and the character's desire remains. In chapter Ⅳ, I classify Son's works into three groups laying stress on the relationships between characters and the process of expressing desire. First, with his works <Funny making of god>,<A wide plain>,<A dream of pheasant>, <A boy), <An evening glow>, I analyze the basic desire of character and I show the fact that the character's desire is originated from the lack of maternal love. Second, with his works <Holiday>, <Living), <An unsolved problem>,<Walking in the snow>,I research the first step of expressing desire. In these works the characters who show the behavior of recuperation are against with people who pursue the material value, and with the antagonism the characters begin to recognize oneselves objectively and be social selves. Third, wi th his works <A loney hero>, <An overplus man>, <Scribbling people>,<A traitor>, I analyze the setback pattern of desire which is socialized. Son's short stories have structure reflecting his own desire which is same with the character's desire that is originated from the lack of maternal love. Son's works show the process in which the character look for the object to compensate for one's deficiency and the process in which the character's desire is showed by the relationship beween people. So we can say that Son Chang-Sub is the writer who has special story-structure showing the basic desire-structure of human.;1950년대 전후문학을 대표하는 손창섭은 전쟁을 경험한 인물의 내면과 전후 사회에 대한 작가적 의식을 ‘병적 인간상’이라는 개성적 인물을 통해 비판적으로 드러낸 작가이다. 손창섭의 작품은 인간에 대한 끊임없는 탐구에서 시작된다. 그의 작품에서는 인물간의 대립관계가 작품 안에서 두드러지게 나타난다. 따라서 손창섭 작품 내에서 인물의 의식 형성 과정과 인물 간의 관계양상을 살펴보는 것은 의미있는 일이 된다. 본고에서는 손창섭의 전작품을 대상으로 인물의 무의식에 존재하는 욕망과 대상으로서 여성의 의미, 인물 간 관계양상에 따른 욕망의 표출 과정을 분석하고 이를 통해 손창섭 작품의 의미를 규명해보았다. 인물의 욕망과 대상의 의미 분석은 라깡(Jaque Lacan)의 욕망이론에 바탕을 두었다. 라깡은 주체의 분열과 관련하여 인물의 인식과정을 상상계(The Imagenary), 상징계(The Smblic), 실재계(The Real)로 삼분하였다. 상상계란 자신과 타자를 명백히 구별하지 못하는 존재 양식으로, 아이와 어머니라는 二者관계(dual realationship)만이 아이에게 존재한다. 상징계는 二者 관계에 상징적 아버지의 의미를 지닌 제삼자가 개입함으로써 형성되는데, 상징계를 거치면서 욕망은 무의식에 존재하게 된다. 또한 주체는 모체의 몸에서 분리되면서 생기는 근원적 결핍을 대상을 통해 메우려고 하는데, 대상은 결핍에 대한 보상이라는 의미를 지닌다. Ⅲ장에서는 욕망 이론을 이론적 전제로 하여 인물의 공통적인 행동항을 분류하여 인물의 욕망을 분석하였다. 인물의 행동과 욕망은 ‘누워있다’로 대표되는 고착의 욕망과 ‘좌절하다’로 대표되는 복수의 욕망으로 나누어 볼 수 있다. 첫째, 고착의 욕망은 모성성의 결핍에서 기인하며 상상계에 머무는 주체의식을 특성을 보여준다. 인물은 폐쇄적 공간인 ‘방’안에서 의식과 행동의 고착을 보인다. 이들은 모두 사회의식이 결여되어 있으며, 현재의 상황을 절대적으로 인식하고 있는 인물들이다. 둘째, 복수의 욕망은 상징계에 들어가는 인물의 공격성을 보여준다. 인물은 二者 관계의 해체에 ‘좌절’하고 제삼자에게 공격적 성향을 드러낸다. 인물의 공격성향은 근본적으로 三者관계의 상징적 아버지에 대한 殺父욕망이며, 타인에 대한 적대감으로 이어지게 된다. 고착의 욕망이 인물과 여성이라는 二者관계에서 발생하는 반면, 복수의 욕망은 인물 간의 관계 속에서 두드러지게 나타난다. 또한 인물이 주체의 결핍을 메우기 위해 집착하는 대상인 여성의 의미와 이와 관련된 인물의 행동을 분석하였다. 인물은 어머니로부터의 결핍을 메우기 위해 여성을 ‘동경’하며 이상화시킨다. 이 특징은 고착의 욕망을 가진 인물의 행동과 관련된다. 한편 인물은 현상황의 ‘부재’를 메우기 위해 여성에게 사랑을 요구하나 비극적 현실인식과 욕망사이에서 갈등상황을 맞이하게 된다. Ⅳ장은 Ⅲ장을 전제로 손창섭 작품을 인물간의 관계 양상과 욕망의 표출과정을 중심으로 세단계로 분류하였다. 첫 번째로 <神의 戱作>, <曠野>, <雉夢>, <少年>, <저녁놀>을 통해 인물의 근원적 욕망을 분석하였는데, 인물의 욕망은 유년시절의 부정적인 어머니로 인한 모성성의 결핍에서 기인한다는 것을 밝혀냈다. 두 번째로 <公休日>, <生活的>, <未解決의 章>, <流失夢>, <雪中行>을 통해 욕망 표출의 초기 단계를 고찰하였다. 이 작품들에서 퇴행적 행동을 보이는 인물들은 동일 공간 안에서 물질적 가치를 추구하는 인물군과 대립하게 되는데 이 과정을 거치면서 인물은 현재의 자아를 객관적으로 인식하게 되고 사회적 자아로 변화하게 된다. 세 번째로 <孤獨한 英雄>, <剩餘人間>, <落書族>, <反逆兒>를 통해 사회화된 욕망의 좌절 양상을 분석하였다. 주로 인물의 의식 변화를 통한 사회 의식의 생성과 사회구조안에서 좌절되고 마는 욕망의 굴절양상을 살펴보았다. 이와같이 모성성의 결핍을 통해 발생하는 작중 인물의 욕망 구조는 작가의 욕망과 일치한다. 손창섭의 작품은 인물이 주체의 결핍을 메우기 위해 끊임없이 대상 찾기를 하고 있다는 것과 욕망은 인물간의 관계를 통해 표출되는 과정을 거친다는 특징을 가지고 있다. 그러므로 손창섭은 인간의 근본적 욕망구조를 작품화하고 있는 작가로서 한국문학사에서 독특한 소설 구조를 이루어 낸 작가라고 평가할 수 있다.
