Abstract
The Yin and Yang and Five Elements thought, the world view which has an emphasis on harmony and unity, has been recognized as the highest principle with regard to a psychological, ethical, or religious aspect of Korean folk art and thought history. This thought is such a basis of the way of thinking of Korean that it has influenced on and has been reflected in the whole culture and art. Likewise, it has also given a great impact on dance. Especially court dance that was cerated and developed under Confucian political idea is conceptually based on this thought, the puropse of this thesis is to study the Yin and Yang and Five elements thought reflected in structures, costumes, and movements of Jung-Dae-Up, Mu-Go, and Cheo-Yong-Mu in Hak Yeon-wha-Dae Cheo-Yong-Mu hapsul. Yin and Yang principle is that two coordinate natures, negative and positive, consist of all things. It is expressed as Ki("energy"). Five Elements principle is that wood, fire, earth, metal, and water make and govern all things, according to Sang-Saeng principle(the principle that Five Elemints help one another) and Sang-Guk principle(the principle that Five Elements conflict one another). Jung-Dae-Up, Mu-Go, and Cheo-Yong-Mu is constructed according to these principles. these dances show the formation made in five directions in common. That is blue, red, yellow, white and black are placed in the east, south, center, west, north respectively. The five colors and five directions are connected with Five Elements. According to the order of Five Elements, dancing groups are placed to make the formation of dances. It is assumed to be an expression of the will for the realization of a peaceful reign in harmony with nature by applying the notion of cosmic space and time to the dance structure to adjust to the natural law. The colors of dance costumes are based on five primary colors and five secondary colors. the primary colors, blue, red, yellow, white, and black, conforming to yang were thought to be lucky colors in contrast with the secondary ones and, thus were used more them. However, the primary colors and the secondary ones were harmoniously used, especially arranged in accordance whth the Five Elements principle of Sang-Saeng to gain the harmony and order of Yin and Yang. The arrangement and coloring of dance implements also conformed to the principles of Yin and Yang and Five Elements. As for dance movement, it is anologized that the shapes of Pive Elements, wood, fire, earth, metal, and water are embodied in the movement. In addition, Dae-Mu(a dance facing each other) from five directions implies Sang-saeng principle and Chwa-Sun-Hwe-Mu(a dance turning leftward) in Cheo-Yong-Mu represents Sang-Guk principle and the purpose of driving evil away and controlling it. As we have examined above, Jung-Da-Up, Mu-go, and Cheo-Yong-Mu reflect the Yin and Yang and Five Elements thought. Thus, it is assumed that these dances imply an intention petition for national welfare through the formation of the above thought into dance and they are the artistic sublimation of the petition.;음양오행사상(陰賜五行思想)은 조화와 통일을 강조한 세계관으로 한민족의 민속예술 또한 한국사상사에 있어 철학적, 윤리적 내지 종교적 차원에서 최고의 원리로 인식되고 있다.
