내적 지향성(Intentionality)과 알레고리적 이미지(Allegorical Image) 연구

Abstract

1960년대의 미니멀리즘(Minimalism) 이후 추상미술은 사실상 거의 쇠퇴하고 있었지만,^(1) 다른 한편에서는 추상이라는 양식을 고수한 작가들에 의해 1970년대의 개념미술로 이어지게 된다. 그러나 1970년대 말에 신구상, 신표현주의 회화가 일어나 1980년대 전반기에 접어들면서 추상미술은 다시 침체되었다. 이러한 추상미술이 일반대중으로부터 주목을 끌게된 최초의 청신호는 1985년 신기하추상(Neo-Geometry Painting) 또는 신미니멀주의(Post-Minimal)라는 양식의 등장이었고, 이는 신표현주의의 물질적, 정신적 무절제에 대한 반동이며, 개념미술의 추상성에 대한 반작용으로 나타나게 되었다. 이 회화 양식은 작품에 오브제의 물성과 내용성을 다시 부가한 점에서는 새로우나, 복잡한 주제들을 극도로 단순화하여 보여주고 있다는 점에서, 물질이라는 본질로 돌아와 모든 이미지를 제거하고 오직 개념적 질서에만 관심을 가진 미니멀에 직접 연관되어 있다. 이러한 신조류에 본인은 많은 영향을 받고 있으며 작품상에도 반영되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 미니멀리즘을, 보여지는 형식상 본인의 작품과 연관시켜 전개하고 있으며, 본인의 작품이 인간의 감성을 표현하고 있다는 점과 표현매체의 물성이 드러난 점에서 오브제의 물성을 강조하고, 독자적인 예술방향을 제시한 것이 아니라, 예술가의 창작속의 한 단면을 중요시한 Post-Minimal 적인^(2)회화와 연결되고 있다. 본 논문의 내용적인 면에서는 본인이 차용한 지향성(Intentionality)의 개념과, 알레고리(Allegory)의 개념에 대해 설명하고, 벤야민(Walter Benjamin)이 말한 '알레고리적 이미지'를 빌어서 본인작품과 알레고리의 연관성을 밝히고 있다. 방법적인 면에서는 표현기법으로 나타난 형태의 변형과 물성에 대해 언급하고, 유동적 전체를 위해 확장된 표현양식, 즉 공간수용으로서의 Installation을 알레고리적 이미지와 연관시켜 설명하였다. 결론적으로, 이 제작연구를 통해, 본인에게 있어 회화상의 「진실」은 작가의 개인적인 감성을 표현하는 데에 존재한다는 것을 밝히고자 하였다. 그러나 감성이라는 추상적 개념들이 시각적으로 표현되어졌을때 전달될 수 있는 표현의 한계를 인식하지 않을 수 없었다. 이러한 분석과 반성을 거친 이 제작 연구를 통해 본인의 작품이, 보다 생명력을 지니고 있는, 그 속에 삶을 지니고 있는 작품으로 도약할 수 있는 계기로 삼고자 한다.;Though abstract paintings are almost on the wane since Minimalism in the 1960s, they continued to remain as concept arts in the 1970s by artists who kept the pattern of abstraction. With the advent of Neo Figuration painting and Neo Expressionism paintings at the end of the 1970s, however, the abstract paintings began to be depressed in the beginning of the 1980s. Theinitial green light for such an abstract painting to attract public attention came to blink at last when the pattern of Neo-Geometry Abstract or Post-Minimalism appears, which seems to the response to the material and spiritual intemperance of Neo Expressionism and also the reaction against the abstraction of Conceptual Art. Such a painting pattern is new one In that the materials and contents of an object are added to a work but in fact it is directly connected with Minimalism in that its subject is expressed in an extremly simplified form. Not only my self but also my works are very influenced by this new trend. In the study the Minimalism is expressed in connection with the contents of my works and described as Post-Minimalism since they express human feelings ; They have their own contents. For their contents, the concepts of intentionality and allegory employed in producing the works are explained and how they are related to the works are described. Methodologically, changes and materials of a pattern as a kind of expressional technology are mentioned and the expeanded expressional pattern, the installation as a space accmodation, is explained In relation with allegory. In conclusion, the findings of this study suggest that, for me, the ‘truth’ of paintings lies in expressing an individual feeling of each artists as I have tried to express my existence in my art works.
