物性에 의한 확장된 공간 표현 연구

Abstract

Modern society in the 20th century faces with a sudden change, and its art develops in various and complex phase ; previously, W.Tartarkiewicz (1866-1980) declared that it was impossible for us to make a summary of concepts of modern art. Since 1950's, a flow of abstract art represented by modern art has formed modernism styles - Conceptual Art making great account of nonmaterial aspect of ideality; Minimalism insisting of the minimal modeling elements with Abstract Expressionism, that is, Action Painting and Color-Field Painting, in the first in the list. It also is extending its territory into post- modernism spreading out to the horizon, unlimited freedom, as propulsion of the formalism and the reductive modernism has withered since 1980's. Post- modernism shows a pluralistic trend not as an idea of a dominating movement in the particular age, but as a cultural idea having various art styles in it. Therefore modern art includes chaotic phase- not a dominating movement in the particular age - but a simultaneous art movements lining along with each other. Although my work has to do with Minimalism in screen composition and physical aspect of the surface, it shows a blending and complex tendency because the black-colored shares exist in it as a trace by linking material with spirit, unlike expressive suppression by minimizing the modeling elements. In the way of criticism about new forms and contents suggested in continuity, I tried to induct the viewer into a new visual experience through having experience with material by a free selection of space of a screen, escaping from limited area, that is, the usual canvas. The expressed space and my work shows multiple spatiality caused by casual shapes and 'geste' expressed on the illusory space, which reflects physical property in method. I tried to present a complex phase, not to go to extremes, but through a black monochrome display caused by traces of 'geste' immanent in geometrical composition. Finally, I would like to have it a stimulus forward for the next outline, with my study on reflection, of present and analyze my work further.;20세기 현대 사회는 급격한 시대적 변화를 겪고 있으며, 예술 또한 다양하고 복잡한 양상으로 전개되는데, 일찌기 타타르키비츠(W. Tartarkiewicz 1886~1980)는 현대 미술의 개념을 정리한다는 것은 불가능하다고 단언하였다. 1950년대 이후 현대 미술이 대변해 온 추상미술의 흐름은 액션 페인팅(Action Painting)과 색면추상(Color-Field Abstraction)으로 대변되는 추상표현주의(Abstract Expressionism)를 필두로 최소한의 조형요소 만을 주장해 온 미니멀리즘(Minimalism), 비물질적이며 관념적인 측면을 중요시하는 개념미술(Conceptual Art) 등의 모더니즘 양식을 형성시켜 왔으며, 80년대를 기점으로 형식주의와 환원적 성향의 모더니즘의 추진력이 미약해지면서 거의 무제한의 자유라는 지평으로 확산되는 포스트 모더니즘으로 그 영역을 넓히고 있다. 포스트 모더니즘은 어떤 특정한 시대에 지배적인 하나의 운동이 존재하는 이념이 아니라 여러 가지 미술 양식이 공존하고 있음을 의미하는 문화이념으로서 다원주의적 경향을 나타낸다. 그리하여 현대의 미술은 어떤 미술 이념으로서 정확히 규정지을 수 있는 성질의 것이 아니라, 동시적인 미술운동이 함께 도열하는 혼란 상태를 내재하고 있다. 본인의 작품은 화면 구성과 재료 표면의 물질적 측면에서 미니멀리즘(Minimalism)의 경향과 연관되면서도, 미니멀리즘이 조형의 요소를 최소화하여 표현을 억제했던 것과는 달리 물질과 정신을 연결시키는 행위에 의한 흔적으로서의 검은색의 형상들이 내재하고 있어 절충적이며 복합적 양상을 띤다. 본인은 끊임없이 제기되는 새로운 형식과 내용에 대한 논란속에서 상식적인 캔버스라는 제한된 영역에서 벗어나 자유로운 화면 공간을 선택함으로써 물질의 체험을 통해 새로운 시지각적 경험을 얻고자 하였다 본인의 작품은 반사 표면이라는 물질성에의 반영을 통해 나타나는 착시적 공간과 그 위에 표현되는 행위(geste)에 의한 우연의 형상들로 인해 이중 구조의 공간성으로 나타난다. 방법적인 면에서 기하학적 구성 속에 내재된 행위의 흔적에 의한 검은색의 모노크롬화된 화면을 통하여 극단에 치우치지 않는 복합적 양상을 띠고자 했다. 마지막으로, 본인의 작품을 제시, 분석해 봄으로써 작업에 대한 반성과 함께 앞으로의 작업 방향 모색의 계기로 삼고자 한다.
