서정주 시의 병렬법 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 서정주 시의 병렬법적 특성을 살펴봄으로써, 시적 언술의 고찰을 통한 시인 의식의 규명을 연구 목적으로 한다. 그의 시에 나타나는 반복의 양상과 병렬법적 특성은 어구, 행, 연 등의 단위에서 나타나는 형태 반복의 측면(Ⅱ장)과 텍스트의 전체구조의 성격과 의미를 살피는 의미 구조의 측면(Ⅲ장)으로 나누어 고찰할 수 있다. Ⅱ장에서는 먼저 음운의 반복에 따른 정조 환기의 효과를 살펴 보았다. 서정주의 시에서는 텍스트 내에서 일정한 음운이 여러번 반복됨으로써 그 시의 정조에 영향을 주는 경우를 찾아볼 수 있는데, 그 가운데에서도 'ㅅ'의 반복은 특히 많이 나타나며 이는 그의 시에 상승 지향의 분위기를 가져온다. 모음의 배열에 있어서도 음성 모음과 양성 모음은 서로 대립과 조화를 이루는 가운데 텍스트의 詩性을 이루는 상호보완적 관계를 보이고 있다.(Ⅱ - A) 어구, 행의 반복에서는 시인이 자신의 의지를 표현하는 방법으로서 어구와 행을 반복하고 있으며 이는 현실의 고통을 이겨나가는 화자의 주관적 의지력으로 작용하고 있다. 여기에서 변이소와 불변이소의 결합은 어조의 복합을 가져오고 이중적 정조를 환기하며 이러한 두 양상의 결합은 화자의 내면에 끈기와 절제의 힘을 갖추는 역할을 한다. (Ⅱ - B) 연의 반복은 동일한 연이 처음과 끝에 반복되는 수미쌍관의 구조를 살펴 보았다. A - B - A의 구조는 B가 깨달음의 과정으로 제시되어 A → A가 직선적 질서의 모습을 띠는 경우와 B가 지속적인 반복을 가능하도록 탄력적 힘으로 작용하는 회귀의 질서로 나누어 살펴 보았다.(Ⅱ - C) Ⅲ장에서는 시 텍스트의 병렬 구조를 점층, 연쇄, 미완의 세 가지로 구분하고 이들이 드러내는 병렬법적 특성을 살펴 보았다. 점층적 병렬구조에서는 시가 전개됨에 따라 각각의 요소가 점층적인 변화를 보이면서 의미가 강화된다. 이는 삶에 대한 성숙한 태도를 갖추는 모습을 나타내기도 하고 이미지의 변화에 따라 각 연의 공간이 이동하는 양상을 보이기도 한다. (Ⅲ - A) 연쇄적 병렬구조에서 동일한 어구를 연쇄적으로 반복함으로써 지속의 시간성을 구현하고 있는 양상을 살펴볼 수 있다. 또한 의미 차원에서의 연쇄와 이미지의 연쇄를 통해 시인의 순환적 상상력을 드러내고 있는 모습을 살며볼 수 있다. (Ⅲ - B) 미완적 병렬구조에서 시인은 형식과 내용의 면에서 시를 개방함으로써 독자가 참여할 여지를 남긴다. 이는 의도적으로 공백을 남김으로써 독자의 반응을 유도하고 그 빈 칸을 독자에게 채우도록 한다. (Ⅲ - C) 본 논문은 시인의 의식을 시의 구성 원리인 병렬법적 특성을 통해 살펴봄으로써 시인의 의식과 시 구성 원리의 상관 관계를 밝히고자 하였다. 시가 드러내고 있는 의미의 차원은 시적 언술의 규칙과 밀접하게 연관되어 있고, 독자는 끊임없이 이의 영향을 받으면서 시를 읽기 때문이다. 서정주의 시에서 병렬 구조를 동해 드러나는 반복과 순환의 양상은 동양적 사고체계와 뿌리를 같이 하면서 폭넓은 공감을 일으키는 요소가 되고 있다.;The purpose of this thesis is to analyze Seo Jung Ju's poem and explore his poetical consciousness using parallelism as methodical frame. Parallelism is essential in the poetical skill to express the idea of "recurrent returns". So the study of parallelism requires to probe ultimately into language structure and is helpful for comprehension of the principle of poetic structure. When poem text is considered as language structure, we can recognize emotional effect and element of universal sympathy in Seo Jung Ju's poem. To illustrate parallelism in his poem, we are examine formal distinct features such as phonemes, expression, lines, etc and then demonstrate how whole meaning structure reflects parallelism. In chapter Ⅱ, parallelism is discussed in the aspect of external form. In the first place, the repetition of phonems contributes to the changes of poetic mood. If when we pay attention to the feature of assonance in the poem, we can learn the specific repeated censonant creates poetic mood. For example, the repetition of "S" sound that is represented by the poetic expression "so-seul-han" evokes upward mood. Furthermore elaborate arrangement of vowels in the selection of expressions takes into account the contrast and the harmony of negative and positive vowels which are complementary for each other, and it creates poetic characteristics of text. Secondly the repetition of expressions and lines endows poet's intention with tender persuasive force and creates affirmative view of the world. It is due to crossing and combination of variables and invariants. Thirdly, the order of returns appears in the congraity of first and last stanzas. Seo Jung Ju introduces into his poem A-B-A structures in which same stanza is arranged in both beginning and end of poem. This structure provides middle stanza with flexible impulse to proceed with flexible impulse to proceed with poet's pursuit constantly. It owes such effect to optimistic role of middle stanza. In chapter Ⅲ, we consider parallelism in the aspect of semantic structure and deal with the problem how parallelism in the text emphasizes semantic features in the entire poem. First there is incremental parallelism observed in Seo Jung Ju's poem. As poem proceeds so meaning is intensified and attitude of life become mature. In other poems, parallelism unfolds as variation of image moves poetic space. Secondly there is serial parallelism that suggests philosophy of circulation the core idea of Seo Jung Ju's imagination. Repetition of the expressions already presented in former line or stanza forms continual image and creates permanant, not temporary, impression. Also, a chain of meaning and image represents Seo Jung Ju's imagination of circalation. Chain reaction appears in the circalation of human and nature and among the harmonious circulation of nature objects such as flower, stone, bird, jewels, etc. Thirdly there is incomplete parallelism. Incomplete parallelism leaves room of meaning interpretation in form and matter for readers to fill up. This symbolizes time of the poet persues and admits possibility of comprehensive answer to the question of life. The main characteristic of Seo Jung Ju's poem is affirmative energy. In his poem, every property of life-grief, degire, joy, pain, etc, has value that should be approved. The repetitive act in the poem serves to produce affirmative energy. Seo Jung Ju's parallelism has circle structure, typical of Orientalism and supports his philosophy of order "Circulation". In the order of circulation, beginning and end are met. Its principle is harmony and unity in neither negation nor contradiction exists. His poem reflects the typical Oriental philosophy and his parallelism embodies internal order in the outer world. Seo Jung Ju's parallelism that appers in incremental, serial and incomplete structure in helpful for understanding emotional effect and elements of universal sympathy his poem inspires.
