발염(拔染)에 의한 선의 추상적 표현

Abstract

현대미술에 있어서 중요한 요소는 표현성이다. 새로운 가능성은 새로운 표현양식을 모색케하고, 예술가의 무궁무진한 예술의욕을 표출하는데 적절한 방법으로 인식되어 온 20세기의 추상미술은 그 표현기법 만큼이나 많은 새로운 양상을 등장시키면서 다양해져가고 있다. 이러한 흐름은 섬유예술에도 영향을 주게되어 과거 기능주의적인 전통에서 벗어나 작가의 독자적인 표현방법과 다양한 주제와 표현으로 미적(美的)표현에 중점을 두게되었다. 그와 같은 일련의 예술전반의 경향에 의해 본 연구자는 내적 필연성에 의한 내면세계의 표출을 위한 표현방법으로서 추상충동의지를 바탕으로만 행위에 의한 선(線)의 표현에 연구목적을 두었다. 이를 위한 이론적 기반으로 행위에 의한 표현에 있어 무의식에서 출발한 자동기술법(Automatism)과 그로 인하여 야기될 수 있는 우연성에 대하여 고찰하고자 하였으며 이러한 행위에 의한 표현은 작가의 내적표현을 위한 내적 필연성에 의하여 잠재된 예술의욕의 표현이라는 점에서 추상충동에 관하여 연구하였다. 본 연구자는 작품제작에 있어서 적극적인 표현을 위한 방법으로서 착색발염법(着色拔染法)을 연구하였다. 그 결과 본 연구자의 작품에 있어서 발염에 의한 표현은 방염(防染)처리에 의한 표현방법 보다 작업과정이 간단하고 선명한 색으로 표현할 수 있는 장점이 있어 효과적이었으며, 다양하고 독특한 색으로 자유로운 표현이 가능하였다. 또한 발염에 의한 선표현은 행위에 의해 나타난 속도감 있는 선과 그러한 반복에 의해 중첩되어 형성된 공간 속에 색이 겹쳐지는 의미가 아닌 새로이 생성되는 선으로 새로운 의미를 부여하는 공간으로 형성되었다. 그리고 발염제에 의한 우연적인 현상은 새로운 가능성을 제시하였는데, 이러한 우연의 이용은 우연을 뚜렷이 반복하여 필연으로 나타나는 표현에 이르러 화면 안에 존재하는 우연과 이러한 우연적 효과의 절제된 사용으로 전개되어 나갔으며 차츰 의도성이 개입하므로써 우연적 표현에 의한 한계를 벗어나고자 하였다. 이러한 작품제작을 통하여 본 연구자는 내적 필연성에 의한 행위의 표현에 있어, 우연과 우연의 의도된 효과의 적절한 조화가 앞으로의 연구과제로 나타나게 되었으며, 발염법에 의한 표현은 다양한 표현효과에 의하여 독특한 표현으로의 전개와 창조적인 표현에 자유롭다는 것을 알게되었다. 그러나 발염은 사용되는 약품이나 염료가 매우 민감하므로 여러번의 시행착오와 실험을 거쳐 염료와 약품의 특성에 대하여 정확히 파악한 다음에야 적절한 표현효과를 기대할 수 있다. 이에 창작예술로서의 가능성과 발염의 효과를 최대한 나타낼수 있는 작품제작을 위하여 과학적이고 좀더 이론적인 뒷받침이 따라야 할 것이다. 이러한 연구과정을 통해 그에 따른 해결방안을 모색하고, 앞으로의 작업에서 꾸준한 연구와 시도에 의하여 창조적인 조형세계를 정립해 나가야 할 것이다.;Expressivity is one of the important elements in modern art. New possibilities enable emergence of new expression modes. The abstract art of the twentieth century, which has been recognized as an appropriate way of expressing the artist's boundless artistic desires, has become diverse with emergence of new modes as many as the expression techniques. Such a trend has had an impact on fabric art, which now focuses on aesthetic expressions with the artist's unique ways of expression and a variety of themes, departing from the traditional function-orientedness. Considering such a series of changes in art in general, the purpose of this study is to examine the expression of the line by geste based on the abstract impulsive will as an expression method to represent one's inner world by internal necessity. As a theoretical basis, the author tried to examine automatism in which the expression by geste starts from the unconsciousness and probable accidentalness therefrom. The author also studied abstract impulses in that the expression by geste is the representation of latent artistic desires by the artist's internal necessity for expression of the artist's own inner world. In this study the discharge dye technique was examined as a positive expression method in production of art works. The study revealed that the discharge dyeing style has the advantages of simpler work process and expression in finer colors compared with the conventional resist dyeing style. Also the discharge dyeing style enabled free expression with a variety of unique colors. Lines by discharge have the sense of velocity by geste and form the space that renders new meanings not by colors lying one upon another but by lines newly reborn in the space formed by repeatitive gestes. And the accidental phenomenon produced by discharging material presented new possibilities. This exploration in accidentalness has led to the expression of accidentalness as necessity through obvious repetition of accidents. It has been developed into a temperate usage of the accidentalness existing in the field and its accidental effects. And further attempts have been made to overcome the limits of accidental expression with gradual intentioned intervention. In the process of producing the work in such a way the author came to realize that in expressions by geste based on internal necessity the good harmony between accidentalness and intended effects of the accidentalness should be the theme of the future study and that the expression by discharge dyeing technique renders freedom in development of unique and creative expressions owing to its various effects. But since chemicals and dyes used for discharge technique are very sensitive, proper expression effects can only be expected after complete mastering of the characteristics of various dyes and chemicals through repetitive experiments, trials and errors. Furthermore production of works that can exhibit the possibility as a creative art and the effects of the discharge to the maximum requires scientific and more theoretical basis. And we need to seek solutions through such scientific and theoretical studies and to build a creative world of formative arts through unceasing experiments and attempts in our art works.
