산업화 과정속에 변해가는 우리의 풍경에 대한 고찰

Abstract

The study intends to examine closely the changing phases of our culture in the industrizing process by the collection of visual data. The study has a tacit understanding with the documentary photographers who wanted to represent truely the phases of their times by the clear records of meaningful realities, and has very many similarities with the photographic styles of E.atget and W.Evans. I therefore,intended to clarify the aesthetic foundation of my works by suveying the concept of documentary photography and its historically changing process,and by analyzing comparatively the working trends of E.Atget and W.Evans. A series of examples showed in the study are the concretely visualized things of our cultural reality experiencing the collisious of serious values because of the mix of korean culture and foreign culture, traditional culture and contemporary culture through scribblings and pictures appearing in metropolitan suburbs,border of urban and rural area,and amusement parks. All of my works were photograhed front at the regural distances from objects,and I used 6*6 medium size camera with 80mm standard lens. This photographing method is to represent simply and directly reality itself. I,also,used black and white film concentrating attentions on the reciprocal relation between the forms of objects rather than the relation between the colors of objects through controlling the colorific confusion of real world by black and white monotone to give clarity the photographic images. The perfect scquare frame desined to place main objects in the center, which has little possibility of giving unwanted informations,was used. It was used to acquire the contrasting effects by concentrating attentions on the relation between and surrounding materials. The production of the photographs had begun on the March of 1991. The total 588 cuts has been done until the April of 1992,and 15 photos were selected to present in the study. My study,intending to represent faithfully the phases of our times, however,has subjectivity in the point of being viewed and documemted by me,the personal photographer,and has limitation in the point of making images from the specific phases to take a prospect about the whole of our culture. This work is the starting point of my future work intending to represent the various phases of our culture by photograph images.;이 연구는 산업화 과정속에 우리문화의 변화 양상을 사진적 기록을 통해 규명해 보고자 한 것이다. 이 작업은 의미있는 현실의 명확한 기록을 통해 그 시대상을 보다 진실하게 표현하고자한 다큐멘타리 사진가들과 그 맥을 같이하며, 특히 Euge´ne Atget 와 Walker Evans의 사진 스타일과 많은 유사점을 갖는다. 따라서 다큐멘타리 사진의 개념과 그것의 역사적 변천과정을 살펴보고 앗제와 에반스의 작품경향을 본인의 작업과 비교분석 함으로써 본 작품의 미적 토대를 밝히고자 하였다. 여기 제시된 일련의 사례는 한국문화와 외래문화, 전통적인 것과 현대적인 것이 혼재되어 심각한 가치의 충돌을 경험하고 있는 우리의 문화적 현실을 대도시 주변부, 도시와 농촌의 접경지역, 유원지 등에서 나타나는 키치와 낙서, 그림들의 사진적 기록을 통해 구체적으로 시각화 한 것이다. 본 사례 작품은 모두 6×6 판형 중형카메라에 80㎜ 표준렌즈를 사용하여 피사체와 일정거리를 두고 주로 정면에서 촬영되었다. 이는 있는 그대로의 현실을 단순하고 직접적으로 표현하기 위함이며, 사진 이미지에 명료성을 부여하기 위해 실제 세계의 색의 혼란함을 흑과 백의 모노톤으로 제어하여 색과 색간의 관계보다 형태간의 상호관계에 주의를 집중시키게 하는 흑백필름을 사용하였다. 또한 주요 피사체가 중앙에 배치되도록 설계되어 의도하지 않은 정보가 제공될 가능성이 적은 정방형 프레임을 사용하여 주요 소재와 주변의 사물과의 관계에 관심을 집중시킴으로써 대비의 효과를 얻고자 하였다. 본인은 일상적 삶속에 자리잡고 있는 시각적 이미지들을 기록해 나가는 작업을 통해 급격한 산업화 과정속에 우리의 문화가 더욱 서구화 되고 향락적으로 변해가며 우리의 자연이 인간의 이기심에 의해 더욱 황폐화 되어가고 있음을 보다 잘 이해하게 되었다. 그러나 작가 개인의 관점에서 우리 문화의 일부 특징적 양상을 기록하여 우리문화 전체를 조망해보고자 하였다는 점에서 한계를 갖는 본 연구는 우리문화의 여러 양상을 사진 이미지로 반영해보고자 하는 본인의 다음 작업의 출발점으로서 그 의미를 갖는다고 할 수 있겠다.
