아르데코 양식의 현대적 해석과 실내디자인에의 적용 가능성에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 1920년대와 1930년―세계 제1차, 2차대전사이―를 풍미하였던 아르데코(ART DECO)디자인의 이론과 그 배경적 근원을 알아보고 분석하므로써 디자인 사조에 대한 이해와 아르데코디자인이 1960년대 다시 재현된 현상에서 나타난것처럼 현대 또는 미래에 아르데코 디자인이 수용되어 적응할 수 있는가에 대한 그 가능성을 모색하고 제시하는 것을 그 목적으로 한다. 아르데코 디자인의 적용가능성과 그 당위성을 제시하기 위하여 첫째, 역사적 배경, 정의, 개념등을 고찰하고 둘째, 실내환경디자인 및 건축디자인을 중심으로 그 특성을 파악하고 현대 현 시점의 디자인 또는 미래 디자인에 적용 할 수 있는가에 대한 방법을 연구하여 적용가능성을 제시하는 것에 그 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 아르데코 디자인의 시대적 배경을 중심으로한 디자인 특성, 정의, 개념, 사례분석 등을 통한 이론적 배경을 먼저 알아보고 현대 디자인에 있어 적용가능성을 위한 문제점을 인식하여 아르데코 디자인의 영감적 근원들을 모아 그 모티브(Motif)들을 추출, 이미지 전환 작업에 의한 형태 언어 및 조형적인 결과물을 제시하여 이러한 추출된 요소들을 공간 디자인 즉 실내 디자인, 외부디자인에 실험적으로 적용하여 제시하므로써 그 가능성을 보여주었다. 그러므로 한 시대에 지나간 다지인 사조가 아닌 한 시대에 살았던 선조들이 입고 쓰고 즐겼던 생활의 근원을 고찰연구하므로써 현대 또는 앞으로의 미래에 다가올 예술 및 사회 문화에 있어 그 정당성과 그 본류에 대한 이해를 비롯하여 미래 우리 문화를 개척하고 발전될 수 있게하는 밑거름이 되리라 하는 의도하에 진행된 본 논문의 연구과정을 살펴보면 다음과 같다. 1. 아르데코 다지인의 이론적 고찰을 위하여 아르데코 디자인의 발생 배경, 시대, 정신 미학등의 배경 요인을 살펴보고 발생의 당위성을 알아보았다. 또한 아르데코 디자인이 전개되기 위한 전후 디자인 사조의 맥락을 살펴보는 것으로서 그 연원 및 영향력으로 아르누보, 대중문화, 20세기에 미술운동fl 대하여 살펴보고 아르데코 디자인의 용어 및 개념을 정의한다. 2. 조형적 요소로의 아르데코 디자인의 특성을 고찰하여보면 조형적인 개념, 표현방법 구성은 다음과 같다. ·구성이념, 성립요인 ·조형적 특성의 구분 ·표현양식의 구체적 원리 ·아르데코 디자인의 발전, 확산 3. 다음은 건축, 제품, 실내공간을 중심으로 사례를 분석하고 현재 또는 미래에 아르데코 디자인의 적용가능성에 대한 분석과 문제점을 인식하고 다음 과정에서 제시될 해결 방안에 있어서 근거로 하였다. 4. 영감적 근원에의한 이미지 전환 작업으로 다음 단계에 의하여 조형, 공간 디자인을 중심으로 전개 되었다. ·1단계 :아르데코 영감의 근원-영감적 근원에 의한 이미지 collage과정 ·2단계 :시각적 요소 추출 -이미지 collage과정에 나타난 시각적 언어 추출과정 ·3단계 :시각적 요소의 파생 -추출된 시각적언어의 변형, 왜곡, 과정을 통하여 발전 시킨 독립된 형태 창조의 과정 ·4단계 :3차원적 구조 제안 -2차원적 제안에서 3차원적인 입체물을 변환한 공간구성과정 ·5단계 :실험적 적용의 단계 -』차원적 구조물을실내공간디자인에 평면,입면,조형물등에 표현을 통한 실험적으로서의 적용 가능성 제시 본 연구의 과정을 통하여 아르데코 디자인의 수용방법에 의한 실험적인 적용 가능성을 제시하여 그 정당성을 예상한다면 다음과 같다. 본 논문에서 중요하게 다루었던 조형 개념은 디자인의 가장 근원적인 모티브들을 통하여 우리의 한 시대의 선조들에 삶의 생활 철학의 근본 뿌리들을 고찰하고 연구하므로써 우리의 예술 및 사회 문화의 정당성과 그 본류의 이해에 대하여 보다 발전되고 커다란 밑거름이 될 수 있으리라 생각하는 것이 본 연구의 개념(concepts)이며 그러한 근본 뿌리 및 잠재성의 근원들을 현실로 끌고와 현재, 미래에 예견된 디자인에 적용하는데 있어서는 상당한 설득력이 요구되어져야 할 것이다. 또한 그러한 요소들을 적용하는 방법론적인 문제들은 본 연구의 해결과정에서 어려운 문제로 전개 될 것이다. 그러므로 실내 환경 디자인에 있어서 형태 표현의 논리적인 해결에 의한 시도는 커다란 중요성을 가지고 있다는 점을 인식하고 과거에 쉽게 여과시키지 못하고 받아들여진 서구문물의 디자인 영향에 대하여 다시한번 생각해 보고 디자인에 있어서 가장 근본적인 조형적 개념들의 정당성과 올바른 이해가 요구되어져야 할 것이다. 그러므로 본 연구는 디자인 사조에 대한 이해와 아르데코의 역사적 배경, 근원, 특성, 사례등을 통하여 적용 가능성 및 그 당위성을 제시하는 과정을 통해 형태적인 요소의 여러가지 해석과 구성 방법과 실험적 적용의 과정으로 우리실정에 맞는 현재, 미래에 예견될 수도 있는 디자인의 가능성을 제시하여 정당화 하므로써 실내 디자인 분야에 새로운 방향을 모색하는데 있어 도움이 되고자 하는데 연구의 의의와 목적이 있다.;The purpose of thus study is to have an understanding of the design trend of ART DECO by investigating theories and sources of background of the design which prevailed in 1920s and 1930s - between the 1st and 2nd World Wars - and to grope for and suggest a potentiallity of whether it can be adopted and adapt to the present and the future in such a manner that it came back again in 1960s. The study further has meangings : to present its adaptability and the nature what should be, first historical backgrounds, definitions and concepts are surveied, and second, the characteristics are examined cheifly concerned about intoner-environmental design and architectural design. Understanding of the theoretical background included analyses of the design traits, definitions, concepts and cases centered around the background of the times further, upon a recognition of possible problems for its adaptability into modern design, the author has collected innpirational sources of art deco, extracted the motives, and presented its Gestalt language by a work of image conversion and formative outcomes. And the potentiallity could be suggested upon an experimental adaptation of the extracted elements to space design, that it interior and outer design. Procedure of the study is summarized as follows : 1. Background elements such as the occurrence background of art deco, phases of the tunes and Zeitgeist esthetics were examined to see the reasonability of its occurrence. Also, with respect of the context of the after-war design trend for the development of art deco, Art Nouveau, mass culture and 20th century art movements, as its origin and impact, were investigated, and terms and concepts of art deco were defined. 2. Considering characteristics of art deco as formative elements, its formative concepts and expressional method structure were like below : ㆍ constitutional ideology, establishment element ㆍ division of formative character ㆍ concrete principle of expressional type ㆍ development and expansion of art deco 3. Next, cases were analyzed concerned about architecture, produce and interior space. And, analysis and problem-finding related to the adaptability of art deco to the present or future were conducted to give a base for the probable solution which would be followed in the next course. 4. A work of image conversion by an inspirational sources was developed with foci given to formative space design by the phases mentioned below : ㆍ 1st phase : source of art deco inspiration - a course of image collage by inspirational source ㆍ 2nd phase : extraction of visual element - a process of extraction of visual language appeared at the course of image collage ㆍ 3rd phase : derivation of visual element - creating independent forms developed from the route of metamorphosis and distortion of the extracted visual ]anguage ㆍ 4th phase : suggestion of three-dimensional structure - a process of space construction conversed from two-dimensional suggestion to three-dimensional cubic construct ㆍ 5th phase : experimental application - presentation of possible experimental appliance of three-demensional construct into interior space design through expressions on plain face, cubic face and formation. The concept of this study has been to justify the reasonability of attempting an interior environmental design through a logical solution of formal expression. The basic roots and motives of the design could be interpreted in a way that might carry conviction for the newer orientation.
