Abstract
Arnold Schoenberg (1774-1951) succeeds to the tradition of late Romanticism in the late 19th century. He used the music language full of suggestion and strain under the tonal system. Most of his songs were composed during that period. is a songcycle with piano accompaniment which he composed to the poems of Richard Dehmel and Johannes Schlaf who were symbolistic poets. And it is a lyrical songcycle which shows deeply the trend of the late Romanicism. In tonality, he used often modulation under traditional system of tonality. In harmony, he used the chromatic progression succeeds to Wagner. It can be characterized by its melody and motivic variation of its piano part. Particularly, the polyphonic sounds which is tightly formed under chromatic movement of bass line of piano part reflect the influence of Brahms. There are fourth interval, fifth interval progression in the vocal part and the diversity of changes in tempo as means of expression shows dramatic temsions prominent
