Intelligent CAI에 관한 문헌연구

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to define the basic concepts of ICAI(Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction), a form of an application of Artificial Intelligence(AI) into education, and to grope for its future direction of further development. The study focuses on literatures of ICAI systems, and its major concepts are illustrated as follows. 1. Artificial Intelligence, a major contributing factor to the development of ICAI, forms a part of state-of the art computer science designed to extend computer capabilities to perform human-like thought processes---reaconing, learn-ing, self-correnction---thus applying intelligent computer into man's daily life. 2. ICAI re-defines the traditional instructional system---student, instructor, study concents---into Student model module, Tutor module and Expertise module, and include then within its system. 3. ICAI system, initiated in 1970 by J. Carbonell in the United States, has been under intensive study thereafter. And many up-to-date forms of ICAI have been brought about. 4. ICAI system is not simply and adoption of AI system into CAI. Complementing the shortcomings of the traditional CAI, ICAI presents many differences from CAI in its philosophical back-ground, structure and development process. 5. ICAI system is perfected as an instructional system by em-ploying the Adaptive instructional strategy form the instruc-tion-learning principles. Adaptive instructional strategies facilitate individual learning by adjusting the basic learning envirnment to the unique learning characteristics and needs of each learner. 6. ICAI, having focused on AI technology, needs to be reinforced on the instruction-learning side to develop into a more effec-tive and useful tool for education. 7. Since the traditional CAI concepts are yet to be fully im-plemented in education field in Korea, more intensive re-search activities should be made on CAI and ICAI accompanied by financial and administrative support.;과학기술의 발달과 더불어 학교 교육현장에는 개별학습의 중요한도구로 컴퓨터가 이용되었고 긍정적인 학습효과가 있는 것으로 지적되었으나 현재 학교 현장에선 활용되고 있는 컴퓨터는 학습자의 개인차에 맞는 학습을 지도하는데는 아직 많은 제한점을 갖고 있다. 컴퓨터 공학이 점차로 발달하면서 인간의 사고방식을 기초모델로 하여 추론하며 논리적인 사고가 가능한 인공지능(AI:Artificial Intelligence)이 개발되었고 이러한 인공지능을 가진 컴퓨터가 교육에도 적용되기 시작하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 인공지능이 교육에 적용된 형태, 즉 ICAI(Intelligent Computer-Assisted Instruction)에 관한 기초적인 개념을 살펴보고 앞으로의 바람직한 개발방향을 모색하는데 있다. 본 연구는 ICAI 시스템에 관한 문헌연구이며, 본 연구가 다루고 있는 중요개념을 소개하면 다음과 같다. 1) ICAI의 발전에 기여한 인공지능이란 컴퓨터 학문의 최첨단 분야로 추론, 학습, 자기-수정과 같은 인간의 사고과정을 컴퓨터에 적용하여 인간생활에 보다 지적인 컴퓨터를 활용하고자 하는 학문이다. 2) ICAI 시스템에서는 기본적으로 교수체제를 구성하는 요소로써의 학생, 교사, 학습내용을 학생모델 모듈, 학습지도 모듈, 전문가 모듈로 분류하며 하나의 시스템에 포함한다. 3) ICAI 시스템은 1970년 미국의 J.Carbonell에 의해 처음 시도되었으며 그 이후 많은 연구가 계속되고 연구결과에 의해 많은 시스템이 개발되고 있다. 4) ICAI와 전통적인 CAI간에는 ICAI가 CAI에 단순히 AI의 기술을 적용한 이상의 차이점을 보인다. CAI의 단점을 극복하기 위해 개발된 ICAI이지만 그 철학적 배경, 구조, 개발과정에 있어서는 많은 차이점을 보인다. 5) ICAI 시스템이 교수체제로써의 단점을 극복하기 위해서는 교수-학습원리 중의 하나인 변응교수전략(Adaptive Instructional Strategy)를 제시할 수 있다. 변응교수전략이란 학습자 개인마다의 학습특성과 각 학습자의 요구에 따라 학습상황을 적용하며 제시함으로써 개별학습을 촉진하는 교수방법이다. 6) AI 기술개발에만 중점을 둔 ICAI 시스템은 교육에 있어서 보다 효과적인 시스템이 되기위해 보다 많은 교수-학습 이론이 연구되어야 한다. 7) 한국에서는 전통적인 CAI가 그 도입단계에 있어 많이 적용되고 있지는 않으나 앞으로의 CAI, ICAI에 대한 많은 연구와 재정적·행정적 지원을 필요로 한다.
