I. Stravinsky의 "Oedipus Rex" 에 관한 분석적 고찰

Abstract

Igor Stravinsky(1882∼1971)는 일생을 통하여 끊임없이 음악양식에 다양한 변화를 시도하였으며, 20세기 음악에 있어서 새로운 음악어법을 받아들여 자신의 창작세계를 구축한 작곡가이다. 그는 초기의 작품 "L'Oiseau de feu", "Petrouchka", "La Sacre du Printemps"등의 원시적인 분위기로부터 벗어나 균형·침착성과 객관성 등을 중요시하는 신고전주의에 접하게 되었으며, 이 시기의 작품들 가운데 중기에 해당되는 곡들 중에서 가장 독창적으로 쓰여진 작품으로 평가되고 있는 "Oedipus Rex"를 고찰하였다. 본 논문에서는 "Oedipus Rex"의 작곡동기와 각 장면의 해설내용과 부분구성 및 형식구성, 조성 및 화성·리듬 및 Ostinato Pattern, 선율, 관현악의 특징들을 분석하여 작품의 특징을 연구해 보았다. 전 2막으로 구성된 이 작품은 Sophocles의 고대 그리스 비극에 기초하여 J. Cocteau의 불어로 된 대본과 J. Danielou에 의해 라틴어 가사로 번역되었다. 이 곡의 구성은 고전적 특징을 많이 포함하고 있으며, 조성은 각 인물들이나 분위기에 따라 E^(b), C^(-), g, B^(b)의 조성이 나타나고 있다. 이것은 이 곡 전체에 기본적으로 깔려있는 단3도의 관계로서 고전적인 조성관계로 되어있다. 화성은 3도구성에 의한 3화음·7화음·9화음 등으로 나타나며, 3도·4도의 병진행, 불협화음 진행 등이 나타나 있다. 이 곡 구성에서 중요한 전개기술로 응용되어 다양한 형태로 나타난 Ostinato와 다양한 박자의 바뀜이 나타나지만, 주로 변하지 않고 규칙적으로 진행되는 리듬이 나타나며 이 리듬에서 특히 Syncopation은 선율과 리듬의 형태에 변화를 주어 강조하였다. 선율에서는 같은 선율의 Phrase가 반복되는 단순한 형태로 대부분 합창에서 나타나며, aria 특히 Oedipus의 선율에서는 반음계진행과 장식음들이 많이 사용되었다. 그리고 관현악의 편성은 신고전주의의 다른 작품과는 달리 대규모적 관현악 편성으로 되어 있다. 이 곡을 분석한 결과 각 곡의 형식, 동기적 전개, Ostinato 사용, 장식음과 선율의 대위법적인 진행, 대규모의 관현악사용 등은 바로크와 연관성을 갖고 있지만, 날카로운 불협화음, 불규칙한 박자사용, 관현악의 음색과 타악기적인 수법 등이 더해지는, 전반적으로 20세기 신고전주의적 특징이 뚜렷이 나타나는 작품으로 볼 수 있다.;Igor Stravinsky (1882-l97l) is the composer who attempted diverse changes in music style ceaselessly and presented new aspects to applied a music in the 20th century. He established neo-classicism that attached importance to objectivity, balance and composure, out of a more primitive atomosphere. His work "Oedipus Rex" is estimated as being the most creative work of those days. In this study, the musical motives of "Oedipus Rex" and the characteristics of this work, centering around tonality distribution, form of composition, tonality and harmony, rhythm, ostinato pattern, melody, orchestration and a commentary, on each act are presented. This opera-oratorio, composed in two acts, was translated into Latin by J. Danielou, based on the ancient Greek tragedy of Sophocles and J. Cocteau's French Scenario. The formation of this work contains many classical characteristics and the tonalities of Eb Major, c minor, g minor, Bb Major are used according to the atomoshphere and each character. This tonality consists of the classical tonal combination, through a minor third relation that covers the whole work basically. Melodic characteristics include repetitive phrase by the same pattern, chromatic scale progression and the repetition of one note. The orchestration is large-scale, and especially in this work represents the characteristics of Baroque music style with much ornamentation, ostinato pattern and contrapuntal progress of the melody. In the final analysis, this work is neo-classical in that it lays emphasis on tone color of the orchestra, sharp dissonant chords, the use of irregular beats, and the extensive use of percussion instruments, along with its relationship to Baroque.
