현대 섬유예술의 표현소재에 관한 연구

Abstract

인간의 역사와 더불어 끊임없이 연속되어 온 자기표현에의 욕구는 시대에 따라 독특한 표현양식의 예술작품을 낳게 하였다. 현대에 이르러서 시대적인 특징을 반영하며 괄목할 만한 성장을 보여주고 있는 섬유예술은 크게 보아 두 가지 원류에서 발전되었다고 볼 수 있다. 그 하나는 흔히 타피스트리로 대표되는 실용적이고 장식적인 직물공예에서 발전된 유형이고 또 다른 하나는 60년대 Pop Art의 작가 Claes Oldenburg의 이른바 Soft Sculpture의 영향아래 발전된 유형이다. 첫번째 유형이 인류의 시작과 함께 수 세기를 거쳐 이루어진 오랜 전통에 기반을 두고 있는 반면 두번째 유형은 고전적인 개념에서 벗어나 새롭고 혁신적인 면모를 보이고 있다. 이러한 기반아래 섬유예술은 현대미술의 흐름과 그 맥락을 같이 해오면서 조형예술의 새로운 분야로 확대, 발전해가고 있으며 특히 독특하고 다양한 소재의 선택에 의한 풍부한 표현가능성으로 무한한 미적가치를 표현할 수 있어 현대미술 속에서 환영받는 하나의 창조분야로 자리를 굳히고 있다. 더욱이 현대의 미술경향이 과학기술의 발달과 조형개념의 다변화로 자유로운 자기표현을 지향하고 있음에 따라 섬유재료의 폭은 점차로 넓어지고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 섬유예술의 일반적 개념 검토에 이어 직물공예에서 발전된 2차원적 형태로부터 3차원적 형태인 Soft Sculpture, Fiber Sculpture, Fabric Sculpture, 환경속에 섬유구조물에 이르기까지 80년대의 작품을 표현소재별로 분류, 정리하고 작가의 표현의도를 분석함으로써 재료가 주는 시각적 효과와 표현의 적극성, 폭넓은 가능성을 제시하여 앞으로의 섬유예술이 긍정적인 방향으로 일보 전진하는데 도움이 되고자 하였으며 아울러 표현소재에 대한 폭넓고 바람직한 연구가 기대된다.;In the history of mankind, the man's desire for self-expression has been continued and has produced the works of art in the outstanding expression modes corresponding to their times. Especially, in modern times, fiber art is reflecting the contemporary characteristics at its mature level. It is roughly derived from two origins. One thing is the mode of the tapestry representing, the practical and decorative fabric craft, and the other thing is the mode of the soft sculpture, which is affected by Clase Oldenburg, the artist of pop Art in sixties. The former type is based on the old tradition which has been developed through centuries from the beginning of the humankind, which the latter type represents the novel and intellectual aspects that is deviated from the traditional concept. With this foundation, fiber art is developing into the new field of sculpture art in the context of the flow of modern art. And the possibility of a lot of expressions by the selection of peculiar and various materials resulted in the value of unlimited beauty, from which the one of the creative fields in the modern art was established its own position. Furthermore, the trends of modern out is derected toward the free self-expression which is effected by the development of scientific technology and the multifarions concepts of sculpture. Therefore, It is natural that the way to use the fiber materials has become various. This thesis will examine from the general concept of fiber-art to the two-dimensional mode of the fabric art, to the three-dimensional mode of soft sculpture, fiber sculpture, fabric sculpture and the constructive materials of fiber in the environment. And its main approach to present the modes is to classify the works as well as to analyze the expression intent of the artists. This thesis suggests the possibility of the visual effect of naterials and their challengable expressions, from which the future of the fiber art will progress in a positive way. It is recommended that the researchs in a more desirable way about the expressions of materials should be developed.
