Jose Limon의 作品性向에 關한 硏究

Abstract

現代舞踊의 발생은 19세기 말엽, 미국의 이사도라 던컨이 古典 발레의 전형적인 테크닉에서의 해방과 자유로운 춤의 精神을 주장하면서 시작되었다. 그후 이와같은 주장은 제 1세대인 루스 세인트 데니스 (Ruth St. Denis)와 테드 쇼운(Ted Shaum) 에게로, 그리고 다시 제 2세대인 마타 그래함(Martha Graham), 도리스 험프리 (Doris Humphrey)와 찰스 와이드만 (Charles Weidman)으로 이어졌으며, 제 3세대에 속하는 Jose´ Limo´n은 그의 스승인 Doris Humphrey와 Charles Weidman에게서 익힌 테크닉을 토대로 엑센트와 리듬을 가미시킨 자신만의 독창적인 테크닉을 개발하여 按舞家로서 또 舞踊家로서 왕성한 활동을 하였다. 이처럼 현대무용의 歷史 속에서 Jose´ Limo´n의 존재는 그의 독특한 테크닉과 무용관으로 미루어 볼 때 舞踊家들의 硏究對象이 될 수 있다. 따라서, 本 論文에서는 우선 현대무용의 발생과 발달되어 온 過程을 考察하여 보고 Jose´ Limo´n의 生涯와 舞踊觀 및 舞踊活動의 硏究를 通하여 그가 현대무용의 發展에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는가에 대하여 살펴보고자 한다. 또한 그의 作品의 一般的 性向을 개괄적으로 분석하여 보고, 이 가운데 代表作이라고 할 수 있는 「The Moor's Pavane」를 세밀하게 고찰함으로써 그의 作品 속에 나타나는 Jose´ Limo´n의 人間的인 매력과 사상적 배경을 참아 보았다. 아울러서 末尾에 그의 作品目錄을 추가하여, 현대무용의 역사上 그가 또 하나의 紀元을 이룩한 상징적 존재임을 再確認하는 동시에 현대무용을 연구하는 무용가들에게 보다 창조적인 再確認을 定立할 수 있도록 조금이나마 돕고자 하는 데에 本 論文의 目的이 있다.;At the end of the nineteenth centry a so-called modern dance was originated by Isadora Duncan who maintained the liberation from the typical techniques of the classical ballet and a spirit of freedom in dance. Followed by the first generation in the modern dance which has been represented by Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn and the second generation by Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, Jose Limon who belonged to the third generation and learned dance techniques in Humphrey-Weidman studio has created his own unique techniques and led an active life as a choreographer and also a performer. In the history of the modern dance Jose Limon was frequently referred to as a good objective of study for many dancers because of his own creative techniques and unique views on dance.
