John Cage의 偶然性音樂이 Merce Cunningham의 舞踊世界에 미친 影響

Abstract

舞踊은 綜合藝術적인 성격을 지닌 藝術이다. 舞踊이 藝術로서의 생명을 살리고 그 작품으로서의 효과를 높이기 위해서는 모든 자매예술의 힘을 빌리는 것이 당연하며 他藝術의 도움을 받는 것, 그 自體가 舞踊의 獨自性을 喪失하는 것은 아니므로 他藝術에 관하여 무관심해서는 안될 것이다.^1) 무용이 완전한 무용으로서 관객과 호흡을 같이할 수 있으려면 舞踊에 도움을 주는 여러 效果, 즉 舞臺裝置, 照明, 音樂, 衣裳등 모든 것이 혼연 일체가 되어야 할 것이다. 그 이유는 무용 자체의 운동리듬을 音樂의 리듬이 보호하여 주기 때문이다. 옛부터 舞踊과 音樂과의 관계는 불가분의 관계로서 음악이 없는 舞踊은 생각하기 힘들었다. 그러나, 19C에 이르러서는 음악으로 부터의 구속을 받지 않고 運動자체의 리듬에 의하여 자유자재로 운동을 發展시킬 수 있게 하는 無音樂 舞踊도 제창되었다. 이렇게 舞踊과 音樂과의 관계가 각각의 獨自的 藝術로서 서로 상대성을 발휘하면서 서로 돕고 발전할 수 있었다. 그리고 이런 相互관계를 무용가와 작곡자사이에서도 살펴볼 수도 있다. 무용가와 작곡자의 影響으로 인해 전통적인 技法을 부수고 새로운 혁신적인 技法을 창안해 낼수도 있고 이들의 藝術的 協力으로 인해 더욱 완벽한 作品을 이룰 수 있게 한다는 것을 알 수 있다. 예를 들면 안무가 Balanchine과 작곡자 Igor Stravinsky와의 관계, 또한 안무가 Martha Graham과 작곡자 Louis Horst와의 藝術的 協力, 마지막으로 안무가 Merce Cunningham과 작곡자 John Cage등 그밖의 많은 例를 볼 수 있었다. 따라서 本 論文에서는 먼저 舞踊에 있어서 音樂의 중요성을 다루고, 그리고 안무가와 작곡자와의 藝術的인 協力에 관해 살펴 보았는데 특히 Merce Cunningham과 John Cage의 관계에 대해서 주로 考察해 보았다. 먼저 그들의 각각의 독특한 창작기법을 살펴본 후 두사람간의 작품활동에 대해서 알아보았다. 이들의 協力을 통해서 무용의 새로운 영역을 확장할 수 있었고, 협력하게 된 근본적인 사상의 공통성을 통해서 과거의 전통적인 技法에 대한 반발로써 끊임없이 새로운 미개척의 領域을 향해서 나아간다는 사실을 발견할 수 있다. 그러므로 이 두藝術家의 공동작업은 무용과 음악에 훌륭한 업적을남겼으며 이들의 영향은 더욱 뚜렷하게 후세에 남겨질 것이다.;The dancing is a kind of arts characterized by the composite. It is natural for the dancing to enlist the help of all the other arts in order to have the life as the dancing and to obtain the desired result as a work. To enlist help of the other arts does not mean that it. Loses the independence of dancing itself. We, therefore, must not be indifferent to the other arts. To act in concert with the audience, the dancing should be united with every factors such as varied effects which are helpful to the dancing, that is setting, lighting, music, costume, etc. for the purpose of having an effect on the dancing, because the rhythm of music protects the movement rhythm of dancing itself. Since old times, the relation between dancing and music was indivisible and the dancing without music could hardly be understood. In 19th century, however, the dancing without music was also advocated which enabled the movement freely by the rhythm of the movement itself apart from the control of music. Thus, the relation between dancing and music respectively demonstrated the relativity as the independent art, and they could help each other, and foster each other to develop each other. We can :lee the relation between the dancer and the composer, too. We can see that the influences of the dancer and the composer are able to smash the traditional technique in pieces and create the new and innovatory technique and make the more complete works. For example, the relation between choreographer Balanchine and the composer Igor Stravinsky, the artistic cooperation between choreographer Martha Graham and composer Horst, the relation between choreographer Merce Cunningham and composer John Cage, etc, were seen in many cases. The importance of music, therefore, was handled at first ,and the artistic cooperation between the choreographer and the composer was reviewed, chiefly the relation between Merce Cunning-ham and John Cage was examined. First of all, their respective characteristic creative technique was reviewed, and then the work activities, of two persons was examined. Through their cooperation, the new sphere of dancing could be extended and through the common feature of the basic thought which made them cooperate with each other, it was found that they marched forward to the new and undeveloped area continuously as resistance against the fast traditional technique. The joint work of the two artists is considered that their work showed the excellent results in dancing and music, and their remarkable influence will remain more clearly to posterity.
