Ted Shawn이 現代舞踊에 미친 影響

Abstract

現代舞踊이란 어떤 限定된 形式에 얽매이지 않고, 個人의 感情을 自由롭게 表現하고자 함에 있어서 그 表現力과 創作力을 必要로 한다. 다시말해서 과거의 古典발레가 완벽한 形式美를 추구하는데 反하여 現代舞踊은 새로운 모더니즘(Modernism)의 創意로 藝術의 向方을 提示한 하나의 舞踊形式임을 뜻한다. 現代舞踊의 초기발생은 19世紀 후반에 美國의 이사도라·던컨(Isadora Duncan 1878∼1927)이 古典발레의 典型的인 테크닉에서의 해방을 주장하면서 부터 시작되었다. 그러나, 이사도라·던컨이 美國人이면서도 활동무대는 主로 유럽이었고, 이와 같은 時代의 男性舞踊家인 테드·쇼운( Ted Shawn 1891∼1972 )은 美國에서 그의 독특한 主題와 理念으로 무용활동에 專念하여 오늘날의 現代舞踊발전에 크게 貢獻하였다. 따라서 本 論文에서는 初期 現代舞踊의 理論的인 背景으로 그의 發生動機와 發生過程 그리고 現代舞踊發展에 影響을 미친 人物들을 살펴보면서 20世紀 男性舞踊家 테드·쇼운의 生涯와 藝術思想을 考察하였다. 그리하여 그가 現代舞踊界에 남긴 業績과 弟子育成에 대한 그의 指導力이 국제적인 舞踊藝術의 普及과 發展에 미친 影響力을 밝히고자 한다. 테드·쇼운의 業績은 다음의 네가지로 나눈다. 첫째, 테드·쇼운은 現代舞踊界에 최초의 男性舞踊手이면서 自身이 직접 男性舞踊團을 組織하여 活動함으로써 특히 많은 男性舞踊手를 輩出하고 그들의 地位를 確固히 하였다. 둘째, 그는 美國 最初의 舞踊學校 데니쇼운 스쿨(Denishawn School)을 設立하여 그의 舞踊 스타일을 弟子들에게 전수시킴으로써 그의 門下에서 마사·그라함(Matha Graham 1893∼),도리스·험프리 ( Doris Humphrey 1895∼1958 ), 찰스·와이드만( Charles Weidman 1901∼1975) 等과 같은 국제적인 大舞踊家들을 輩出시켰다. 세째, 제이콥스 필로우 댄스 훼스티발(Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival)과 같은 스케일이 크고 有名한 舞踊祝祭를 開催함으로써 舞踊家들이 활동할 기회를 주었을 뿐 아니라, 관중들에게 舞踊感想의 양식을 높이고 共感을 부여함으로써 舞踊普及에 至大한 공헌을 하였다. 네째, 그는 作品의 素材에 있어서나 按舞의 骨隨를 美國獨特한 體型과 風氣인 바로 美國人의 體臭를 그대로 살린 美國式 現代舞踊을 開拓하고 또한 定着시켰다. 以上과 같이 테드·쇼운은 現代舞踊의 地位를 確立하고 美國뿐 아니라 全世界的으로 現代舞踊藝術의 참뜻을 普及發展시킨 名實公認된 大舞踊藝術家임을 否定할 수 없다.;Modern dancing does not stick to a form. It is an art which express cherished emotion freely and it needs strong power of expression, creative power, Classic ballet pursuited of perfect form, but there was a big revolution opposing to the form of the classic ballet. Modernism had appeared. Modern dancing appeared at the end of nineteenth centuries. It was started by Isadora Duncan who initiated to refuse the form of the classic ballet. Isadora Duncan was an American, but she worked in Europe more than America. A contemporary dancer, Ted Shawn who contributed to the development of modern dancing by his special theme and idea usuaIly worked in Americe, This study researched on the background of early modern dancing. First of all, it researched on the motive of appearance and process of development in modern dancing, and persons who influenced on modern dancing to comprehend theoretical background of the modern dancing. By consideration of Ted Shawn's life and artistic works, this study will show his immense influense on establishment and spread of modern dancing. The followings are his achievement : 1. Ted Shawn was the first male modern dancer who played modern dancing. He organized group and acted as a modern dancer. His continual efforts improved the status of male dancer, and fixed it, 2. He established Denishawm School which was the first institutionized dancing school. Matha Graham, Doris. Humphrey. Charles weidman were from this school. He instructed them his unique dancing style and those techniques influenced on the modern dancing greatly. 3. He held Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival which was worldly wide scale. It offered dancers chances to be able to perform at the stage, on the other hand it contributed to spread of the various dancing by showing to the people. 4. He choreographed modern dance with Unique subject matters only in America. So he contributed American style dance to be pioneered and fixed. In conclusion, Ted Shawn contributed to modern dancing getting today's status and he influenced immensely on spread of modern dancing throughout the world.
