Erik Satie에 관한 小考

Abstract

This thesis is intended to review some of the scholastic studies on Erik Satie, on his own musical works and their character, and on his influence into the 20th century music. The 20th century is characterized as the age of change, and for that matter, one must understand the meaning of that change in order to understand the music of Satie who was an artist of that age himself. Musical creation has been expressed in different ways and styles according to the different conditions of each period of history. This was particularly so at about the time of World War I when new aesthetic trends and thoughts were introduced to the world of music. The French music of 20th century began with the impressionism of Claud Debussy (1862-1918), followed by Maurice Ravel (1 975-1937), Edgar Varese (1 885-1 9651, Olivier Messiaen (1908- ), and Pierre Boulez (1925- ), coming down to French music of today. Satie was the contemporary of Debussy, and was a composer who established a unique world of his own in the French music. His music, far from being a continuum o f consonance and dissonance, of tension and relaxation, his a music of spontaneous resonance of its own sound. His music is characterized by the application of the mode, the continuity of seventh chord and ninth chord, built on fourth and parallel motion, repetition of the same rhythmic forms, forms without time signatures and bars, composition of short and descriptive musical notes, and music implicating concrete music. On the whole, Satie's music, being simple and distinct, contributed to the development of music in the early 20th century.;본 논문의 목적은 Erik Satie(1866~1925)에 대한 여러 문헌들과 그의 작품들을 살펴보고, Satie의 음악적 특징과 그가 20세기 음악에 미친 영향을 생각해 보는데 있다. 이 시대에 살고있는 모든 사람들은 현대의 특징을 변화라는 것에서 찾고 있으며, 또한 변화하는 모든 것에 잘 적응하고 이해 할 필요가 있다. 이러한 의미에서 볼때 20세기의 한 음악가인 Satie를 알기 위해서는 20세기의 특징인 변화라는 의미를 먼저 이해해야 할 것이다. 음악도 시대마다의 여건에 따라 새로운 양식과 기법이 생겨났으며 특히 제1차 세계대전을 전후해서 많은 새로운 주의와 미학론이 나타났다. 20세기 전반의 프랑스 음악은 Claud Debussy (1862~1918)로 대표되는 인상주의가 하나의 큰 조류를 형성하였고, Maurice Ravel (1875~1937), Edgar Vare´se (1885~1965), O1ivier Messiaen (1908~ ), Pirre Boulez (1925~ )에 이어지면서 오늘날의 프랑스음악을 형성하고 있다. Satie는 Debussy와 동시대에 활동했던 프랑스의 작곡가이며, 당시 프랑스음악에 있어서 하나의 독특한 자기 음악세계를 구축했던 작곡가이다. 전반적으로 그의 음악은 협화와 불협화, 긴장과 이완이라는 연결의 관계를 떠나서, 그 자체의 울림으로서 이루어지는 음악들로 되어있다. 또한 선법의 사용, 7화음과 9화음의 연속진행, 4도구성의 화음 및 이 화음형의 병진행, 반복되는 동일한 리듬형태, 박자표와 마딧줄이 없는 형태, 묘사적인 악곡구성 및 구체음악을 예고하는 음향 등을 특징으로 한다. 전체적으로 Satie의 음악은 짧고 명확하며, 음악적인 장식과 허식을 배제함으로써 독특한 자기 음악세제를 구축하여 20세기 초반의 서양음악 발전에 조그마한 돌파구를 열어주는데 기여했다고 할 수 있다.
