舞踊의 本質에 관한 硏究

Abstract

When we look at a dance, What do we see? It would be provocative and significant to examine the nature of dance experience. Understanding dance is phenomenological activity might provide more informed perspective to the teacher, to the appreciator, and to the create of dance. The uniqueness and vitality of dance could be found in the frame of phenomenolizing dance. Through the living experience, we discover that dance is first and foremost a created phenomenon. To create dance is to create uniquely dynamic form. Moreover, each dance is a complete and unified phenomenon, a thorough cohesive and continuous form. To discover the nature of dance, one must go back to the global phenomenon itself, to the indivisible wholeness of any created form. Therefore, the essential to any descriptive analysis of dance is an approach which will not shatter the totality of dance into externally related units, but focus upon the wholeness of the work of art. Thus we open the door to a phenomenological approach to dance. To approach dance as a phenomenal presence is not to presuppose anything in advance of the immediate experience of dance. Such a project is two fords: one is to illuminate the nature of the phenomenal presence of dance, the other to illuminate the vital immediate encounter with dance as both a formed and performed art. One of the promising features of a phenomenological approach to dance is therefore the possibility of bringing movement creation, performance, criticism, and philosophy into some kinds of meaningful relationships, whose implications may emerge as noteworthy contributions to dance education. Through such an effort if will be possible to specify more exactly how phenomenology relates to a descriptive study of dance, what significance in a phenomenological approach to dance is.;본 논문은 무용수에 의해 창조·표현되는 동시에 관객의 지각을 통해 끊임없이 생성되어가는 역동적인 무용현상을 규명함에 있어서 실증적 경험과학적인 접근방법을 비판하고 있는 현상학이라는 보다 총체적인 시각을 통해, 살아있는 체험 ( a lived-experience ) 이라는 총체적 현상 그자체로서 무용이 어떻게 창조적 형식으로 표현되는가라는 문제에 초점을 맞추고자 하였다. 이를테면 무용의 본질에 관한 현상학적 접근이라 하겠다. 이를위해 우선 현상학적에 대한 예비적인 이해를 도모함으로써 현상학 무용의 記述的 탐구에 어떻게 연관되고 있는지, 그 접근방법의 의의를 살펴보았다. 그리고 무용의 표현매체인 신체에 대한 현상학적 의미를 Maurice Merleau-Ponty의 신체론을 중심으로 파악하고자 하였다. 이러한 선행작업을 토대로 하여 예술을 의미부여된 상징 형식으로 파악한 'Susanne K. Langer 와 동일한 관점에서 무용을 하나의 의미있는 상징적 표현형식으로 보고있는 Maxine Sheets의 이론에 의거하여 무용의 현상학적 본질에 대해 구체적으로 접근하고자 하였다. 무용체험을 통해 창조되는 것은 힘의 가상 ( Virtual Power ) 으로서 역동적인 상징 형식, 즉 순수하게 생성되어가는 형식( form-in-the-making )에 기초를 두고 있다는 것이다. 그리고 그것은 객관적 시공간이 아니라 인간의 「의식-신체」( Consciousness-Body ) 로써 체험된 시공간이며, 시간적으로는 연속적이고 공간적으로는 통일적인 것으로 파악된다. 즉 추상적이고 조형적이며 표현적인 형식을 통해 가상적 힘을 지속적으로 창조해 나간다는 것이다. 마지막으로 이처럼 창조되는 역동적 무용현상을 살아있는 체험이라는 총체적 현상 그자체로서 바라보려는 현상학적 접근방법의 의미망을 재론함으로써 무용에 대한 새로운 인식방법으로서의 가능성과 그 한계성을 지적해 두고자 하였다. 이에서 전망되는 것은 무용체험이 창조행위로서의 총체적 체험인 한 사고와 행위가 분리될 수 없다는 현상학적 한 가설을 재확인해 볼 수 있는 것이다.
