섬유예술에 있어서 선에 의한 공간표현

Abstract

The established embroidery tended to be accepted in its aspects, but its artistic aspects were ignored. Thus. I tried to express the space through lines in the fore combination of lines and ground cloth in order to get out of the established image of embroidery and prove that it is a field of pure art. In making a work I considered the characteristics of lines and the idea of a space according to periods in formative arts, and analyzed the expression method in paintings and fiber works according to their types. In methodology I introduced, more systematic method of gesture and created other lines through gesture of repeated lines. Thereby, I tried to express the limits in ourselves and infinite space with lyricism and objectivity. As the result of make a work, the real line -- not geomitric line -- is the formative element that can be satisfied in fiber arts. The quality of a chosen line made infinite space and intensity. The successive set of lines by systematic and repeated gesture implied the generation and extinction of the universe and expressed the infinite space. The change of the lines' width according to observers' view caused the change of recognition of colours and subjective selection of colors provided the space of depth through profound composition of a plane. But because its place and the angle of lights produce a number of scenes, lights, place, and a work should be harmonized in order to express the artist's intention perfectly. In conclusion, I hope that there will develop more positive studies about the influence of lights in fiber arts and works produced combination of lights, place, and fiber as in all visual arts.;현대 섬유예술에 있어서 기존한 자수의 이미지를 탈피하고 순수예술에서와 같은 차원의 개념임을 입증해 보기 위하여 본 연구는 선과 바탕천과의 구성으로 화면의 조화를 얻고 거기서 선이 줄 수 있는 많은 가능성의 공간을 표현하고자 하였다. 작품제작시 이론적배경으로는 조형예술에 있어서 선의 특성 및 공간개념의 변천을 시대별로 살펴보았고, 현대 조형예술분야 중에서 회화와 섬유작품에 나타난 공간 표현 방법을 유형별로 분석, 고찰하였다. 방법으로는 좀 더 체계적이고 절제된 gesture의 방법을 도입함으로써 반복된 실선의 gesture에 의해서 또 다른 선을 창조하여서, 우리들 안에 존재하는 제한점과 시간의 제약까지 포용 할 수 있는 공간의 구현과 서정적 객관성을 띤 무한공간을 표현하고자 하였다. 작품제작 결과 기하학상의 선이 아닌 실재하는 선의 사용은 섬유 예술에서만 충족할 수 있는 조형요소가 되며, 무료한 화면 위에 선택 되어진 선의 재질감에 따라서 무한한 공간감과 긴장감이 형성되었다. 체계적이면서 절제된 gesture에 의한 반복된 선의 집합은 만물의 생성과 소멸을 암시하듯이 무한한 공간을 표현할 수 있었으며 관람자의 자연스러운 시선의 움직임에 따라서 선의 간격 변화는 색지각의 변화를 초래하며, 주관적인 선택에 의한 색의 객관성은 보다 심오한 화면 구성에 따른 공간의 깊이를 부여할 수 있었다. 그러나 작품은 그것이 걸리는 장소와 광선의 각도에 따라 수백의 화면을 연출함으로, 작가의 의도를 완벽하게 표출하기 위해서는 광선 장소·작품이 삼위일체가 되어야만 하였다. 모든 시각예술에서와 마찬가지로 광선이 섬유예술에 미치는 영향은 지대하다. 그러므로 광선·공간·섬유를 복합하여 형성할 수 있는 작품에 대한 연구가 더욱 활발히 전개되기를 기대해본다.
