중·고등학생의 가치유형과 정치적 태도

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 로널드 잉글하트(Ronald Inglehart)의 가치변화이론에 근거한 우리나라의 중·고등학생의 가치유형과 정치적 태도에 관한 조사연구를 통하여 물질적인 풍요로움과 안정을 제일로 여기던 “물질적 가치(Materialist Values)"로부터 삶의 질 향상에 중점을 두는 "탈물질주의적 가치(Post-Materialist Values)"를 중요하게 여기는 세대가 성장하고 있는지 알아보고, 언론의 자유, 정치참여의 확대, 직장과 사회에서의 참여 확대, 인간적인 사회로의 성장을 중요하게 생각하는 탈물질적인 세대가 관용성, 정치제도에 대한 신뢰, 항의형 정치참여 양태 등에서 보이는 정치참여를 비교함으로써 탈물질적인 세대의 성장이 민주주의 성장에 기여하는지 알아보고자 하는 것이다. 이를 위하여 본 연구자는 로널드 잉글하트(Ronald Inglehart)의 가치변화이론에 근거한 설문지를 개발하여 중·고등학생 515명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이 실험은 빈도분석, 기술통계분석 등의 실증분석방법을 통하여 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 중·고등학생 전체에 대한 가치유형구분에 대해 살펴보면 선행연구 결과와 동일하게 혼합주의자-물질주의자-탈물질주의자의 분포순서를 보이며 탈물질주의자가 성장하고 있다는 사실을 확인하였다. 둘째, 가치유형에 따른 정치적 태도(관용성, 정치제도에 대한 신뢰, 정치참여 양태)와의 상관성에 대하여 살펴보면 관용성의 경우, 물질주의자가 평균 0.85, 탈물질주의자가 평균 0.94 로 탈물질주의자의 관용성이 높은 것으로 나타났으며 통계적으로도 유의미한 차이를 보였다(p<.05). 가치유형에 따른 정치제도에 대한 신뢰분포의 경우, 탈물질주의적 가치를 가진 학생들은 물질주의적 가치를 가진 탈물질주의자 보다 정치제도에 대한 신뢰가 낮다는 것(p<.001)을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한 가치유형에 따른 정치참여양태에 대한 결과를 보면 탈물질주의자는 물질주의자 보다 항의형 청치참여에 적극적인 태도를 보임으로써 가치유형에 따라 정치적 태도에 차이가 있다(P<.001)는 것을 확인하였다. 이러한 연구의 결과로 볼 때 본 연구가 시사하는 점은 우리사회의 정치·경제·사회의 안정적 기반과 전쟁의 위협으로부터 벗어난 현 시점에서 성장한 청소년 중 탈물질주의적 가치유형을 선호하는 탈물질주의자가 나타난다는 점을 밝혔다.는 것이다. 또한 로널드 잉글하트(Ronald Inglehart)의 가치변화이론과 여러 선행연구에서 제시된 바와 같이 탈물질주의적 가치를 지닌 탈물질주의자의 성장은 민주주의 정치발전에 긍정적인 기여를 하므로 이러한 가치유형의 변화를 통하여 우리나라 민주주의의 발전가능성까지 예측해 볼 수 있었다는 점에서도 의미 있는 시도라고 본다. 정치적 태도에 대한 연구에 비하여 가치유형에 관한 연구는 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 이 분야에 대한 연구가 폭넓은 영역에서 지속적으로 이루어지기를 기대한다.;The purpose of this study is to verify the theory of Ronanld Inglehart that today's new generation thinks much of the post-materialized values and that the value's types have relation to the political attitude, and to look into the general attitude of Middle and High school students in South-Korea. Ronald Inglehart developed twelve value types used in this research, are material values like economic stability, and the maintenance of social order, and the post-materialized values like the development to a more human society, the participation in public affairs and the freedom of speech. And the political attitude includes political participation, interest and trust in politics. The major findings are as follows: First, students savors the post-materialized value types including mixed types and materialized value types. Second, statistically, the research shows that the value types have realtion to the political attitude. So to speak, post-materialized value types show more active and tolerance than materialized value types. However, they think much of post-materialized value types show distrust in the government in South-Korea. Third, the political attitude of students generally shows that they want to take part and interest in political affairs. In conclusion, middle and high school students' active participation and interest in politics and the improvement of life. And I hope that research of this field will be activated.
