도시노인의 노인정참여와 생활만족도에 관한 연구

Abstract

노인문제란 산업화·도시화·핵가족화로 특정 지어지는 현대화된 사회에서는 필연적으로 제기되는 하나의 부산물이라 할 수 있으며, 이는 오늘날 세계 각국에서 사회문제의 하나로 크게 대두되고 있다. 사회의 현대화는 역할상실 노인의 양적 증대 현상을 나타냈고 더욱이 한국에서는 가족제도의 붕괴, 노인지위의 약화 등의 요인은 노인들에게서 활동공간을 빼앗는 현상을 빈번히 초래하고 있다. 이러한 시대적 흐름에 따라 노인들만이 활동할 수 있는 시설 즉 노인정이 크게 늘어나게 되었다. 한국의 노인정 프로그램은 노인에게 사회적 기능을 수행할 수 있는 기회를 제공하며 이는 역할상실에서 오는 문제점을 해결하려는 방안으로 볼 수 있다. 노인의 지위와 역할활동에 관심을 가져온 학자들은 노인의 활동과 생활만족과의 관계를 설명하는 사회 심리적 이론을 발전시켰는데 은퇴이론과 활동이론이 그것이다. 여러 연구를 통하여 활동이론의 경험적 타당성이 은퇴이론에 비해 높은 것으로 증명되고 있다 따라서 역할활동이 생활만족도와 직접적으로 관련됨을 알 수가 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구의 목적은 ① 기존의 활동이론이 우리 사회 노인들에게도 적용가능한가를 검토하며, ② 노인정 참여노인과 비참여노인의 생활만족도를 비교해 봄으로써 현재 계속해서 증가추세에 있는 노인정 프로그램의 효과를 연구검토 하고자 한다. 본 연구는 이러한 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 다음과 같이 진행하였다. 이론적 배경으로서 노인의 활동과 생활만족도와 관련된 두 이론, 즉 활동이론과 은퇴이론을 설명하고, 이어서 노인의 생활만족도에 영향을 주는 제요인을 살펴보았다. 다음에는 일련의 선행연구를 기초로 하여 5가지 가설을 설정하였다. 이러한 가설을 증명하기 위하여 본 연구는 서울시에 거주하는 남녀노인중 노인정 참여요인 60명을 무작위로 추출하고, 이에 비교될 수 있는 노인정 비참여노인 60명을 매칭의 방법으로 추출하여 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이에 따른 조사결과를 분석하면 다음과 같다. ⑴ 노인에게 있어서 결혼상태, 즉 배우자의 유무는 생활만족도와 상관관계가 없는 것으로 나타났다. ⑵ 교육수준이 높을수록 노인의 생활만족도는 높은 것으로 나타났고, ⑶ 생활수준이 높을수록 노인의 생활만족도는 역시 높은 것으로 나타났고, ⑷ 건강할수록 노인의 생활만족도는 높은 것으로 나타났다. ⑸ 노인에게 있어서 결혼상태, 교육수준, 생활수준, 건강상태 등을 통제하면, 노인정에 참여하는 노인은 비참여 노인보다 생활만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 끝으로 이러한 결과가 이론적인 면과 사회사업정책 및 서비스 제공에 관련된 점을 토의하고, 본 연구의 제한점과 앞으로의 연구방향을 제시하였다.;Today the problem of old age appears to be one of the major social problems in modernizing societies. In Korea, the consequences of the change in Social values the trend of nuclearization of family system accompanying industrialization and urbanization have resulted in problems related to work loss and decrease of social activities of the elderly. The purpose of this study is to test applicability of Activity Theory which asserts the positive relation between the activity and the life satisfaction of the elderly. Five hypotheses were formulated to define expected relationship between each of the variables and the life satisfaction of the elderly. In order to test our hypotheses, survey data were collected from interviewing 120 elderly aged 60 and over living method in Seoul who were chosen by the systhematic random sampling method. Finding from the analyses of the data can be summarized as follows. (1) The marital status of the elderly had no significant influence upon the life satisfaction of the elderly (2) The correlation between the educational level and the life satisfaction of the elderly was statistically significant, that is, the higher the educational level, the higher the degree of the life satisfaction of the elderly. (3) The correlation between the living standard and the life satisfaction of the elderly is statistically significant. Thus, the higher the living standard, the higher the degree of the life satisfaction of the elderly. (4) The health status had a substantial correlation with the life satisfaction of the elderly in general. In other word, the elderly who had better health were more highly satisfied with life than those elderly who were in poor health. (5) Elderly participating in senior center program is more highly satisfied with life than those elderly who unparticipating in senior center program.
