도시하층계급의 구조와 계급의식에 대한 문학사회학적 연구

Abstract

이 논문에서는 한국 도시 하층계급의 구조와 계급의식에 대해 문학 사회학적 방법을 통해 살펴보려고 한다. 이론적 배경으로는 먼저 Marx의 하층계급과 계급의식에 대한 이론을 검토한 다음, 이를 수정한 제 3세계의 종속이론적 배경을 본 연구에 적용시켜 보고자 하였다. 따라서 이 논문은 제 3세계 이론의 한국적 적용 가능성의 검토라는 성격도 띠고 있다. Marx에 의하면 자본주의가 발달될수록 하층계급은 노동자 계급 하나로 통합되고 같은 계급적 상황은 계급의 조직화를 포함하는 계급의식을 발생시키며, 여기에서 노동자 계급은 계급의식적 계급으로서 활동한다. 이에 반해 종속이론가들은 제3세계에는 자본주의적 생산양식과 전 자본주의적 생산양식이 복합적으로 존재하므로 하층계급은 자본주의적 부문에 통합된 공장 노동자 계급과 전 자본주의적 부문에 종사하는 여러 직업집단의 한계계급으로 분화된다고 한다. 이에 의해 계급의식은 세계체제적인 자본주의적 모순에 대항하는 성격을 띠고 분화되는 현상을 보이며, 주변의 프롤레타리아 계급이 혁명적 주역이 된다. 한국 하층계급의 구조에 대해 문학 사회학적 분석을 해 본 결과, 문학작품 속에서 하층계급은 공장 노동자 계급과 한계계급으로 분리되고 있음이 나타났다. 그리고 이들은 다른 계급으로의 직업이동의 가능성을 거의 가지지 않음으로써. 주변화되는 빈곤의 영속화 현상을 보이고 있다. 계급간 관계에 있어서는 한국 사회구조의 특수성으로 인해, 작품속의 하층계급은 자본가 계급만이 아니라 중간계급과도 연쇄적인 연결관계를 가지고 있는 것으로 표현되고 있다. 작품속의 하층계급의 계급의식은 일반적으로 계획적인 계급조직화를 가지지 못하는 미약한 것으로 나타났다. 노동자 계급과 한계계급 사이의 계급의식의 차이는 명확하지 않으나, 자본가 계급에 대한 계급의식은 노동자 계급에 있어 더 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과들로 보아, 한국 도시 하층계급의 구조와 계급의식에 대한 연구에 있어서, 제3세계 이론의 적용 가능성은 부분적으로 적용가능성을 검토한다면 타당한 것으로 여겨진다.;This thesis attempts to analyse the structure and class consciousness of Korean urban low class through the method of the sociology of literature. According to Marx, the low class including lumpen bourgeoisie is integrated in the working class under the capitalist system. On the Contrary, dependency theorists contend that the structure of the third world is characterized by the complex co-existence and articulation of capitalist mode of production and pre-capitalist modes of production. Owing to the intrinsic contradiction, the low class is subdivided into many economic groupings, which include the working class of capitalist mode of production and many marginal classes of pre-capitalist modes of production. Accordingly, the class consciousness of the third world low class is divided according to the subdivision of the class. In this study, six novels and short stories on the Korean low class published during the period of 1972-1982 were analysed. The analysis of occupations in these literatures shows that the Korean low class is subdivided into the working class and the marginal class, and that there rarely occur occupational mobility. This can be an indication for their marginalized states and the perpetuation of poverty. With regard to inter-class relationship, the literature shows that the low class has relationships with other classes both Bourgeoisie and middle class in their productive activities. This means that there is a probability that class conflict might appear between the low class and the middle class. Generally speaking, class consciousness of the low class in the literature appears too weak to generate any organized action. There is no clear difference of class consciousness between working class and marginal class, but the class consciousness of the working class against the Bourgeoisie is higher than that of the marginal class. Therefore, while the dependency theory is not exactly coincided with the Korean situation, this study shows that the dependency theory emerging out of the third world situation may be applicable for the understanding of the structure and class consciousness of Korean urban low class.
