근대건축에 나타난 Mass Media적 속성에 관한 연구 : 감상, 표현, 구성, 매개방식을 중심으로

Abstract

20세기 초 새롭게 등장한 사진, 영화, 잡지 등의 Mass Media는 근대사회에 커다란 영향력을 행사하게 되었으며 이러한 사회적 구조 안에서 근대건축은 과거와는 또 다른 맥락에 놓이게 되었다. 근대건축가들은 부정적이든 긍정적이든 Mass Media에 반응해야 했으며 Media는 그들의 건축적 성격을 결정짓는 reference로 작용한 것이다. 본 연구에서는 근대건축을 이해하고 구성하는 새로운 패러다임으로 Mass Media를 주목했다. 물론 근대건축의 다양한 변화양상들은 사진, 영화, 잡지와 같은 매체의 등장만으로 이루어지지 않았으며, 이러한 매체들은 그 사회적 위치나 영향을 논하기 이전 기술적 관점에서의 이해를 요구한다. 하지만 몇몇 역사가들의 진단처럼 인쇄술의 발명으로 Mass Media 시대가 열린 이후, 수십억의 인간들이 강력한 Media의 스펙트럼에 노출되어 있는 상황은 확실히 20세기에나 가능한 독특한 경험의 시작이었다. 따라서 본 고에서는 Mass Media가 예술분야 특히 건축에 미친 영향을 근대사회의 세계관 변화를 통해 추론해보았으며 여기서 한 단계 더 나아가 사진, 영화, 잡지 등과의 관계를 통해 스스로 Media적 속성을 띄기 시작한 근대건축의 여러 경향들을 살펴보았다. 건축과 Mass Media와의 관련성에 대한 기존 논의를 확장시키려는 의도에서 시작된 본 고는 최종작업으로 감상, 표현, 구성, 매개방식이라는 카테고리 안에서 근대건축에 반영된 다양한 Media적 속성을 도출해 내었다. 이에 본고의 의의는 다원화된 현대건축에 대한 참조틀 역할과 new Media의 영향을 예측해 보는 선행작업에 두어질 수 있으며 Mass Media적 속성을 건축디자인 분야에 반영하고자 하는 이들을 위한 reference로서의 활용가능성에 있을 것이다.;Mass Media(pictures, films, magazines etc.) appeared in beginning of twentieth century having a great influence on the modern society. Under changed society at that time, modern architecture lay in another social context different from the past. Modern architects had no choice but to respond to the given Mass Media negatively or positively, using the abovementioned Media as the reference of determining their own architectual features. In this study, Mass Media is considered as a new paradigm of understanding and composing modern architecture. After Mass Media era was opened with the developed printing technology, billions of people were exposed to the twentieth century's MAss Media. Under this social change, modern architecture started containing the Media's features by itself. In the study, the influence that Mass Media had on the view of the world and architecture could be inspected. The relationship between changed view of the world and hereby given influence of the architecture were also studied. Through the aforementioned processes, sevel features of the modern architecture were derived. Under the category of appreciation, expression, composition and medium, the process of extracting Media's features was performed. The result of this study can be used as the tool of understanding present architecture and the reference of refecting Media's features into Architectual Design.
