벌집 구조를 단위형태로 하는 반복적 도자 조형 연구

Abstract

자연은 일정한 법칙을 반복하며 진화하고 모든 생명체는 반복을 통한 진화를 기본으로 한다. 이 법칙은 절대불변의 진리이며, 인간 생활에도 적용된다. 많은 예술가들이 이러한 반복의 이미지를 사용하여 작품을 제작하고 연구해왔다. 그 중에서도 단위형태를 활용한 반복은 회화, 조각, 건축, 공예 등에서부터 생활 전반에 걸친 디자인에 이르기까지 다양한 영역에서 보이고 있다. 본 논문은 벌집 구조(honeycomb)를 단위형태(unit form)로 구성하여 리듬감 있는 반복법을 활용한 도자 조형물에 관한 연구이다. 이 연구의 목적은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시각적으로는 단위형태의 반복을 통한 벌집 구조라는 조형원리를 바탕으로 도자 조형물을 제작한다. 둘째, 이론적 측면으로는 현대 미술사의 흐름 안에서 현대 도자의 경향성을 파악한다. 셋째, 내적으로는 반복하는 행위를 통해 화면을 구성하고 조절하는 데에서 오는 연구자의 감정변화를 서술하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 반복이란 조형원리에서 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나이며, 중첩이나 나열을 통한 반복은 관람자로 하여금 화면의 조화·대칭·율동·대비 등의 조형원리를 경험할 수 있게 하는 효과적인 방법이다. 특히 현대 도자예술가들에게 있어 반복은 작품의 규모에 대한 한계를 극복하고 다양한 소재로 이루어진 현대 미술 안에서 자리매김 할 수 있도록 하는 중요한 표현방식이다. 따라서 본 연구자는 현대 도자를 공부하는 연구자로서 여전히 미술 시장에서는 비주류의 예술로 분류되는 도자예술에 대해 안타까움을 느끼고, 반복이라는 표현 방법을 추구하는 현대 도자의 경향에 대해 이론적·역사적으로 정리하고 이를 다시 조형적으로 표현해 낼 필요가 있었다. 따라서 논문에서는 국내외의 문헌 자료를 통해 반복의 개념을 정리하고, 현대 미술에서 반복적 구성이 어떻게 적용되어 나타나는지를 살펴보고, 그 중에서도 현대 도자예술을 중심으로 단위형태를 활용한 반복의 사례를 연구한다. 또한 본 연구자의 작품의 단위형태가 되는 벌집 구조와 그 조형적 특징을 분석하고 이를 응용한 도자 작품들을 조사한다. 본 연구의 작품의 주제가 되는 반복적 표현은 표면적으로 연속적인 운동감과 시각적 운율의 효과를 이끌어 낼 뿐만 아니라, 본질적으로는 반복적 행위를 통한 자아 성찰을 의미한다. 그러므로 본 연구자는 반복을 통해 생성되는 시각적 효과와 반복하는 행위의 본질인 내적 성찰의 과정에 초점을 맞추어 연구를 진행하고자 한다.;Nature evolves through repetition of regular rules, as all the living organisms are fundamentally based on evolution through multiplicity. This immutable truth also applies to human life. Many artists, for instance, have researched and worked on the image of repetition. Repeating units, inter alia, has shown in various areas such as painting, sculpture, architecture, craft, and designs involved across all of art. This thesis analyzes ceramic art works that utilize the structure of honeycombs as an unit form with rhythmic iteration. Three purposes of this study are to represent ceramic sculptures based on the principle of repeating units from the honeycomb structures in terms of visual aspect, identify the trend for contemporary ceramic in the current of modern art history theoretically, and describe diverse emotions which arise from configuring and modulating the works originating in repetition. Repetition is one of the most important factors in the formative arts principle; a principle with superposition and listing is the most effective tool to make the audience to experience symmetry, harmony, rhythm, and contrast through the art works. Especially, repetition is a significant factor for contemporary ceramic artists, who try to survive in the field of art which is consist of various materials, because it makes them to overcome the limit of ceramic art's scale. I, as a researcher studying modern ceramics, accordingly felt unfortunate that the ceramic art belongs to the non-mainstream in the art market, saw the necessity to summarize theoretically and historically the trend of pursuing repetition in contemporary ceramics, and express it in figures. Therefore, this thesis is a study of the concepts of repetition through the domestic and foreign literature sources, examining how repetitive configuration applies to modern art, and principally understanding how the unit form of repetition applies to contemporary ceramic art. In addition, the analysis of characteristics of the honeycomb structure and the ceramic works applying the characteristics, including researcher's, is the purpose of it. Repetition, which is the subject of this study, not only expresses a continuous sense of movement and a visual effect that lead to rhyme superficially, but also means self-reflections through the repeated acts essentially. The human instinct to grow and evolve through the repetition is the same idea. Therefore, this study will be focused on a visual effect through repetition and a process of introspection which is the essence of repeated actions.
