산수(山水)를 형상화한 현대 자수 표현연구

Abstract

From ancient time, the nature has been primarily the center of spiritual universe and fundamental for the principle of all creation to the Eastern people. Taoism takes place at the core of oriental perspective on the nature. Indeed, Morality and Inartificial naturalism, representative philosophical theories of Taoism, insist for rather exclusion of artificiality and harmonious coexistence between human being and nature. This perspective toward nature within the Eastern culture has characterized the formation of landscape painting and decreased the distance between human being and nature, as well. The goal of this project primarily focuses on Korean Landscape painting, which is rooted from the nature-centered Eastern philosophy. Furthermore, it is hopefully to encourage human life to create better harmony with the nature by modernizing the traditional landscape painting into the form of embroidery. Theoretical backgraound: first, Observe relationship between Eastern people and the nature, and relatively examine Taoism in terms of aesthetical perspective. Second, Study the Landscape painting, which is representation of yearning for the universe, and apply the concepts on several Korean Landscape paintings in details. third, Analyze fabric works expressing landscape based on the Eastern Naturalism. Under the philosophy of Taoism that explains oneness of human and nature, I took images derived from personal memory. I constructed works focusing on vitality created by sense of space and emptiness, which also varies for the angle of viewpoints. Adding the value of craftsmanship to the works in progress, forms of scroll and screen had been borrowed for purpose of interior decoration. Techniques elaborating the quality of the works, felt and silk-threads are glued on the field in the way of expressing fog and flow of the air. Thickness and brightness of threads are differentiated to emphasis a sense of three-dimensionality, as well as copper net is also partially applied to get an effect. For the materials for the works, copper nets, silk, silk-threads, and felt are used, and pyong-su, applied triangular pattern, and applied cross-stitching techniques are practiced as an embroider pattern. The conclusion derived from the postproduction of Landscape-based embroidery could be summarized as below. First, applying the landscape, the figure of the land of peace to Eastern people, on modern embroidery suggests closer connection between human life and the nature. Second, positive utility of copper net lowers the risk of deformation comparing to fabric, so it can enhance solidity. Also accordance made by heterogeneous materials, such as warm fabric versus cold metal, rather emphasis the characteristics of each other. Third, variety on thickness and brightness of the threads, as well as three-dimensional embroidery technique gives a sense of volume on realistic landscapes. Partially applied copper net turns two-dimensional plane into a volumic relief. Also felt and silk-threads attached on a copper net effectively created a sense of fog and flow of the air with their delicate texture. Over all, the works try to bring mental calmness and aesthetic harmony between human being and nature by reformation and modernizing landscape of Eastern spirit in form of embroidery, and finishing with touch of practicality.; 예부터 자연은 동양인에게 영원한 정신적 귀의처이며 만물의 근원적 원리로서 존재해왔다. 노장사상(老莊思想)은 이러한 동양적 자연관의 중심에 있으며 이를 대표하는 개념인 도(道) 와 무위자연(無爲自然) 에 입각하여 자연과 인간이 인위(人爲)를 배제하고 하나가 되는 것을 강조하고 있다. 이와 같은 자연관은 미(美)적 추구라는 바탕 위에서 산수화(山水畵)로써 형상화되었고 이로써 인간은 자연과 보다 더 가까워지게 되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 자연에 순응하고 하나가 되고자하는 동양인의 자연관을 사상적 배경으로, 한국 산수화에 기초를 두고 산수자연을 형상화(形象化)하여 현대 자수로 표현함으로써 인간의 정서와 자연이 조화를 이루도록 하는데 있다. 이론적 배경으로는 첫째, 자연과 인간의 관계에 대하여 알아보고 이를 논한 노장사상을 예술적 입장에서 고찰하였다. 둘째, 자연에 대한 동경심의 표현인 산수화를 연구하고 다양한 한국 산수화 작품을 분석하였다. 셋째, 동양적 자연관을 바탕으로 하여 산수자연을 표현한 섬유미술작품과 현대자수 작품을 살펴보고 분석하였다. 작품제작에 있어서는 자연과 내가 하나라는 도가(道家)의 원리에 따라서 연구자의 기억에 존재하는 산수를 대상으로 하였다. 여러 각도에 따라 달라지는 산수의 체면(體面)을 관찰하고 원경·중경·근경에 따른 공간감과 여백에 의한 화면의 생동감에 중점을 두고 구성하였으며, 작품의 용도에 있어서는 가리개, 발의 형태를 취함으로써 공예성을 부가하였다. 표현방법으로는 물과 공기의 흐름을 표현하기 위해 펠트와 견사를 풀어 바탕 위에 고착시켰으며, 실의 굵기와 명도에 변화를 주거나 부분적으로 구부린 동망(銅網)조각을 사용하여 입체감을 강조하였다. 작품의 표현재료로는 동망, 실크섬유, 견사, 펠트를 사용하였고 자수기법은 평수, 이음수, 삼각수 그리고 이것을 응용한 자수기법을 사용하였다. 산수를 형상화한 현대 자수작품을 제작, 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동양인에게 있어 정신적 안식처인 산수자연을 현대 자수로써 표현하고 실용적인 형태로 마무리한 작품은 일상생활 속에서 자연과 인간이 보다 자연스럽게 밀접해지는 계기가 되었다. 둘째, 주재료인 동망의 사용은 용(用)적 측면에서 볼 때 섬유에 비해 손상이 적어 작품의 견고성을 높일 수 있었으며, 밀도가 다른 동망을 사용하여 색상과 투명도에 변화를 주었다. 또한 부드럽고 따뜻한 특성의 섬유와 차가운 금속 동망의 조화는 이질적인 서로의 특성을 더욱 보완, 강조하였다. 셋째, 실의 굵기와 명도의 변화 그리고 다양한 자수기법으로 사실적인 산수 형상의 양감(量感)을 표현하였고 부분적으로 입체적인 동망 조각을 사용하여 평면적인 화면을 부조화(浮彫和)하였다. 또한, 동망 위에 펠트와 견사를 자연스럽게 풀어 고착시킴으로써 나타나는 섬세한 섬유의 결을 이용하여 안개와 공기의 흐름을 효과적으로 표현할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 동양인의 정신세계를 반영하는 산수자연의 형상을 현대 자수로 표현하고 실용적인 형태로 마무리함으로써, 본 연구자는 작품이 인간과 자연의 관계에서 심리적 안정과, 미적 조화를 추구할 수 있는 매개체로서의 역할을 의도하였다.
