행동연쇄 방해전략을 통한 비구어 자폐 청소년의 보완, 대체 의사소통(AAC)체계 사용기술 교수

Abstract

This study was designed to investigate the effects of using Behavior Chain Interruption Strategies on the instruction of a system of AAC for three nonverbal adolescents with autism. Behavior Chain Interruption Strategies, including Choice making, Missing item format, Blocked response, Delayed assistance, Wrong item format, were chosen in order to give the subjects enough chances to communicate so as to allow them to learn the skills required to use the communication board with an array of both colorful photographs and black-white pictures by intentionally interrupting the behavioral chains of a cooking activity they engaged in. With a multiple probe design across subjects, the percentage of communicative responses on the occurrences of each strategy and the development of syntactic structure were measured throughout the whole sessions. The generalization effect was probed in another cooking activity and following data were collected twice to examine the maintenance effect three and seven weeks after the intervention was completed. The results from the investigation were as follows: 1. The intervention with Behavior Chain Interruption Strategies facilitated the acquisition of skills to use the AAC system on a cooking activity for all the subjects. 2. The acquired skills were generalized into another cooking activity. 3. The changes shown on the subjects responses were maintained both three and seven weeks after the intervention was finished. 4. The syntactic structure on utilizing the communication board was improved from one-sign pointing to two-signs combination. The intervention with Behavior Chain Interruption Strategies was positively effective for the nonverbal adolescents with autism to use a system of AAC as evidenced above. Moreover, the development of semantic underscores the importance of devising an efficient AAC device as a tool for acquiring increasingly sophisticated language skills as well.; 구어를 습득하지 못한 비구어 자폐학생은 청소년기 이후에 전통적인 의사소통 수단인 구어를 습득하기 어려워 대안적인 의사소통 방법이 요청되며 이를 위해 기존의 의사소통 능력을 보완하고 대체할 수 있는 체계인 보완·대체 의사소통체계를 지도하는 것이 바람직하다. 보완·대체 의사소통체계 사용기술 교수 시에 기존에는 학생이 의사소통하는 환경과 분리된 상태에서의 명명하기 위주의 직접교수 후에 의사소통 기능에 관한 교수가 이루어졌으나 이러한 방법은 학생의 학습동기를 저해할 수 있다. 그러므로 학생이 의사소통하는 자연스러운 환경에서의 의사소통 지도가 이루어져야 한다는 환경언어중재 방법과 루틴의 사용과 같은 환경구성을 포함하여 보완·대체 의사소통 체계 사용기술을 교수하는 것이 적절하나, 이러한 환경에서도 의사소통 기회가 부족하다면 의사소통 기회를 위한 특정전략을 사용하는 바람직하다. 환경언어중재에 기초하고, 자연스러운 루틴 혹은 행동 연쇄를 의사소통을 위한 환경으로 사용하는 행동연쇄 방해전략은 미리 정해둔 시간 지연 및 촉진의 절차가 따르는 루틴의 의도적인 파괴와 방해를 통해 자발적인 의사소통에 어려움을 보이는 비구어 자폐 학생이 의사소통을 할 수 있는 기회를 제공한다. 따라서 본 연구는 행동연쇄 방해전략을 세 명의 비구어 자폐 청소년에게 실시하여 이들의 보완·대체 의사소통 체계 사용기술을 습득하도록 교수하고, 보완·대체 의사소통 지적시 단일 상징 지적에서 두 상징 조합 지적으로의 발달이 이루어지는지 알아보고자 하였다. 교수효과의 검증을 위해 대상자간 중다 간헐 기초선 설계를 이용하였으며, 대상학생들이 공통적으로 선호하는 활동인 요리활동을 전략사용의 활동으로 선정하여 (1) 기초선 단계, (2) 컬러사진을 이용한 의사소통판 사용중재, 흑백그림을 이용한 의사소통판 사용중재 단계, (3) 다른 요리 활동에서의 일반화 단계, (4) 중재를 종결한지 3주 후와 7주후에 흑백그림을 이용한 의사소통판 사용의 유지의 정도를 측정하였다. 요리활동 스크립트 시 사용한 방해의 종류는 선택하기, 항목빼기, 중단된 반응, 지연된 도움, 틀린 항목 제시 전략이었고, 한 회기 당 총 9회의 방해전략이 제공되었으며 의사소통판을 지적해야할 반응의 총 기회의 수는 16회였다. 의사소통판 지적시 단일 상징 지적에서 사물 상징과 행위 상징을 연속하여 지적하는 두 상징 조합으로의 상징조합 발달을 위하여 전략의 반복제시 및 학생이 수행한 의사소통에 대한 언어적 피드백을 제공하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 행동연쇄 방해전략을 통한 중재는 의사소통의 기회를 제공하여 요리하기 활동을 중심으로 한 보완·대체 의사소통체계 사용기술을 습득에 긍정적인 효과를 나타내었다. 둘째, 행동연쇄 방해전략을 통한 중재로 중재와는 다른 요리활동에도 보완·대체 의사소통체계 사용기술이 일반화되었다. 셋째, 행동연쇄 방해전략을 통한 중재로 중재종료 3주 후 및 7주 후에도 그 중재의 효과가 유지되었다. 넷째, 행동연쇄 방해전략을 통한 중재로 보완·대체 의사소통판 사용시 단일 상징 지적에서 두 상징 조합으로의 보완·대체 의사소통 상징조합 발달을 나타내었다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 본 연구에서 사용된 행동연쇄 방해전략은 세 명의 비구어 자폐 청소년에게 보완·대체 의사소통 사용기술 습득 및 일반화, 유지에 효과적인 교수 방법임을 나타내었고, 또한 보완·대체 의사소통시 상징조합으로의 언어 발달을 이루어 세 명의 비구어 자폐 청소년의 AAC 사용 어휘 확대 가능성을 나타내었다고 볼 수 있다.
