월터 뮬더(Walter G. Muelder)의 기독교 사회윤리 사상 연구

Abstract

인간은 싫든 좋든 간에 매일 여러 가지 문제에 직면한다. 그러나 현대 사회에서 한 개인이 그 문제에 대해 책임 있는 의사 결정을 내리기는 쉽지 않다. 그 누구도 ‘오로지 유일한’ 정답을 알고 있지는 않기 때문이다. 특히, 기독교인은 성(聖)과 속(俗)으로 대별된 이질적인 이중구조 속에 살아가면서 양자 사이의 모순을 극복해야 할 과제까지 지니게 된다. 하나님께 대한 의무와 인간상호간의 책임을 인식해야만 하는 것이다. 이처럼, 여러 가지 가치들이 무분별하게 산재해 있어 어느 가치를 선택하고 결단해야 할지 몰라 막막해 하는, 다원화된 세상의 기독교인들에게 기독교 윤리는 다양한 인간의 삶 속에서 우리가 관계하게 되는 모든 것들에 대하여 어떻게 대응하고 실천할 것인가를 모색하는 하나의 해석을 제공해 준다. 특히 뮬더의 기독교 사회윤리는 순수한 기독교의 복음을 유지함과 동시에 세속사회와 대화하고 타협함으로써 양자 사이의 합의에 근거한 공통된 지침을 제공해 준다. 하나님과 이웃 앞에 선 기독교인들이 책임 있는 도덕적 주체로 설 수 있는 하나의 길잡이가 되는 것이다. 또한 세속화-다원화 되어가고 있는 현대사회 속에서 기독교인, 더 나아가 인간의 행동이 하나님과 사회공동체에 대해 좀 더 책임 있게 수행되도록 하기 위한 뮬더의 노력은 절대적인 진리의 해체로 규정되는 포스트 모던 정신의 커다란 도전에 적절한 윤리적 정체성으로 대응한다. 따라서 본 논문은 새로운 윤리적 상황에서 책임 있는 결정을 내릴 수 있는 윤리학자 지침을 월터 뮬더(Walter G. Mulder)에게서 찾고자 한다. 본 논문은 뮬더의 윤리 사상과 그 방법론을 고찰함으로써 현대 사회가 안고 있는 윤리적 문제를 극복하고 이에 대한 적절한 대안의 가능성을 모색하는 데 그 목적을 둔다. 이러한 작업을 위해 제 1장에서는 위에서 잠시 언급한 바 있는 본 논문의 목적을 문제제기를 통해 좀 더 자세히 알아볼 것이다. 그리고 연구방법과 범위에 대하여 설명한다. 제 2장에서는 뮬더의 생애와 그의 사상적 특징에 대해 살핀다. 제 3장에서는 신학적, 철학적 역사 현실에 대한 사회과학적 연구들의 결과를 상호 연결시켜 기독교인의 일관성 있는 행위의 표준을 창출해 내고자 했던 뮬더의 기독교 사회 윤리학 방법론을 고찰한다. 제 4장에서는 모든 사람이 공공 질서와 사회 정의에 책임을 느끼면서 자유를 행사하고, 정치 권력과 경제력을 가진 자들은 모든 사람을 위해 그 권력을 행사하는 책임사회의 모형과 이 책임사회를 이루기 위해 기독교인의 행위의 기준이 되는 도덕법 체계에 대해 다룬다. 제 5장은 신학적· 철학적· 사회과학적 분석을 결합하여 평화주의를 전개하고 현실에 대한 날카로운 분석과 평가를 통해서 성서의 비젼인 샬롬을 성취하려 했던 뮬더의 평화주의 사상에 대해 실천적인 조망을 하였다. 제 6장은 교회의 사회적 책임을 강조하면서 교회와 사회 사이에 다리를 놓는 작업을 전개했던 뮬더의 교회론을 살펴보고, 뮬더의 교회론의 실천적 적용으로 한국교회의 역할과 책임, 그 윤리적 과제를 논하면서 끝마친다. 제 7장 결론부분에서 본 연구 내용을 전반적으로 요약하고 본 논문의 한계성을 서술한다. ; Human beings are faced on various problems in their usual lives. But in modern society, It s not so easy for a person to determine his responsible decision about these problems. Especially, Christian live in double structure society which consist of divinity and secularity. They must recognize liability for the God and responsibility of mutual human beings. Thus, Christian ethics provides the answer how to confront and practice everything we are related in our lives to christian. Particularly, Muelder s christian social ethics not only preserve pure christian gospel but also offer a guide based on consultation by compromising and conversing with the secular world. It make christian who stand in front of the God and their neighbor to be moral responsible subject. Moreover, In Modern society turning into secularization and being plural, Muelder s efforts trying to make human behavior to be more responsible for the God and Social community can be the proper moral confrontation to Post-Modernism which insist on disorganization of absolute truth. Accordingly, the purpose of this thesis is to seek for moral guide line from Walter G. Muelder in order to make responsible decision under new e lity of proper solutions by studying of Muelder s ethical ideology and methodology. Chapter one presents the purpose of this thesis by introducing the theme. And the author explain the methods and range of study. Chapter two roughly describes Muelder s life and his distinct theological characters. The author investigate Muelder s methodology which tried to create the christian standard conduction with connecting the results of social sciences about the theological and historical realities in Chapter three. Chapter four shows us the model of responsible society in which everybody feels liability for public orders and social justice as well as freedom and the System of Moral Law indispensible to complete the responsible society. Chapter five presents pacifism in the social ethics of Walter G. Muelder applied to achieve Salom through sharp analysis of actuality. In Chapter six, Emphasizing on social responsibility of church, the author examine into Muelder s view of church and then The role, liability and ethical assignment of Korean church are proposed as practical adaption of the Muelder s point of view. In Chapter seven, the concluding part of this thesis, all the study mentioned above is summarized and the suggestions for the further study on christian ethics are presented.
