dc.description.abstract가곡은 딴 이름으로 만년장환지곡(萬年長歡之曲)이라고도 한다. Gagok can be called ‘Mannyun Jangwhan Jigok’ in another way and belongs to Jeong-ga, together with Sijo and Gasa. It is an advanced art song accompanied by wind and string instruments such as Geomungo, Gayageum, Daegeum, Piri, Haegeum, and Janggu, and its format is extended to five sections from the three-verse format of Sijo. It is a collection of songs which are linked to each other in its melody and comprise 27 pieces of music. Gagok has two kinds of modes, u mode and gyemyeon mode, and there are two kinds of songs, male song and female song, in it. The prototype of Gagok has been transmitted from Mandaeyeop, Joogdaeyeop to Sakdaeyeop, and the Mandaeyeop was so slow to be played that it disappeared before the 18th century, while the Joogdaeyeop disappeared around the late Chosun dynasty which happened to be the time that the source of Gagok was initiated. As the Mandaeyeop and the Joongdaeyeop went into a decline at the late Chosun dynasty, the Sakdaeyeop was flourished so that it began to grow 1 • 2 • 3 at the late 17th century. At the early 18th century, it was evolved into the types of Nong • Nak • Pyun and Joong-geo, Pyung-geo and Doo-geo were developed from Isoodaeyeop at the late 19th century. As a result of that, at the early 20th century, it was equipped with the form of the great vocal music, such as Gagok at present. The fundamental form of Gagok comprises of six songs, Isoodaeyeop, Joong-geo, Pyng-geo, Doo-geo, Samsoodaeyeop and Soyong, and its prototype can be called Isoodaeyeop among them. Therefore, the five songs, Joong-geo, Pyng-geo, Doo-geo, Samsoodaeyeop and Soyong, have derived forms from Isoodaeyeop. In this article, I will compare Isoodaeyeop, which is a prototype of Gagok and has brought more variations than any other songs of Gagok, with its variations, Joong-geo, Pyung-geo, and Doo-geo by studying the melody of the Geomungo, which is the most important instrument to the accompanimentof Gagok. Based on the Isoodaeyeop, I will compare the Isoodaeyeop with the Joong-geo, with the Pyung-geo and with the Doo-geo. The Joong-geo means sung by raising the middle of the beginning part of the Isoodaeyeop, the Pyung-geo means sung by raising flat through the part, and the Doo-geo means sung by raising the head of the Isoodaeyeop. In other words, the names, Joong-geo, Pyung-geo, and Doo-geo have originated from the singing form. When these get to be applied to the instrument, the Geomungo, I will show if its melody is able to get the same form as the singing form. I shall begin with the relationship between their tunes and the variations of their rhythms. Next, I will discuss how the rhythms of the Isoodaeyeop develop and come to an end in its variations, Joong-geo, Pyung-geo and Doo-geo. Moreover, I will show how to play the Geomungo in the Isoodaeyeop, Joong-geo, and Pyung-geo and the relationship between the specific interpretations and their rhythms. Based on the above study plan, the result of this study can be summarized as follows, First, in terms of melody, Joong-geo(93%) was the most similar to the Isoodaeyeop, and Pyung-geo(83%) wasthe next, and Doo-geo(52%) showed a sort of distant relationship with the Isoodaeyeop. Second, Joong-geo was played with the form of raising the beginning part of the Isoodaeyeop – the chapter No. 1, the 12th~ 16th rhythms were raised. Pyung-geo showed the form of raising the same part of it flat – the chapter No. 1, the 4th ~ 5th, and 12th ~ 14thrhythms were raised. Finally, Doo-geo has the form of raising the head of the part of it – the chapter No. 1, the 1st ~ 6thrhythms were raised and it was played generally by raising the part relatively high.(The above explanation is only applied to the chapter No. 1.) Third, the variations of their rhythms showed that one beat might be splitted into three one-third beats or vice versa. In terms of rhythm, Joong-geo(95%) showed the most similar pattern to the Isoodaeyeop, Pyung-geo(91%) was the next and Doo-geo(67.5%) was the last. Specifically, Doo-geo showed the form of the beat variation a lot, which is splitting one beat into three one-third beats. This infers that Doo-geo has the most developed form of rhythms and I can conclude that Doo-geo is the most advanced form of song derived from the Isoodaeyeop. Fourth, the way of ending each chapter comprised of 7 forms and the ending tune was generally unified into 林 Fifth, the interpretations of playing the Geomungo have a close relationship with rhythms. For example, the interpretations, such as Salgang, Seulgidoong, and Ssarang, can be applied to Hapjangdan and appear often in making rhythms.-
