This thesis tries to argue that learning is a process of doing philosophy in action, by looking at 'experience' in the pragmatism. I argue that any form of education that lacks the process of thinking result from adhering to traditional views on human beings and their individual growth without active criticism. I take that what makes an education traditional as such is a dichotomy between teaching and learning, and knowledge isolated from us human beings. A traditional education as such will hinder communicating with others to create new meanings, and it will also impede men and women's self-realization as intellectual beings in that it takes little account of the intellectual fulfillment and self-confidence which we all have the right to enjoy. To address the problems of education I will discuss the pragmatist philosophy, which provides meaningful insights into the relationship between knowledge and human beings. The pragmatist philosophy builds a theoretical foundation for education as doing philosophy in action, in that it humbly reflects upon humanity and that it puts an emphasis on living out philosophy in our daily lives. Pragmatism, premised by an evolutionary world view, argues that truth can be known only in connection with the knower, and that the search for this knowledge begun by having questions borne out of the concrete reality to which human beings belong. This claim suggests that the value of the knowledge lies in the sense of fulfillment people experience when they exert themselves to know it and in the progress that results from making use of that knowledge. It is argued, with C. S. Peirce, human beings are dynamic beings who create new meanings and develop themselves along with the community to which they belong, through interactions carried out with signs. This leads to that human beings take the responsibility to realize their own beliefs and to judge if the beliefs fit into their ever-changing experience. It is thus argued that with Peirce, this critical approach to experience is one of the most important requirements that makes a learning meaningful. In the same vein, J. Dewey offers a possibility of our daily life, with the help of 'an experience' to be turned into a process of inquiry. Human beings construct 'an experience' with the factors of experience in an organic, continuous way. It is an active act of understanding the aspects of human society and the environment surrounding the individual subjects. Human beings reflect on their acts to create meaning and build 'an experience'. Based on the pragmatist claim that experience and knowledge, as well as knowledge and human life, can be merged into one by reflecting upon daily experience and thus living out philosophy, I argue that learning not only results from a meaningful experience but also is in itself a meaningful experience. This is to say that the value of learning lies not in the fact that knowledge is acquired by merely being taught, but in the meaning-making process, in other words, the process of doing philosophy. Thus a learning must be undertaken from a specific interest aroused by experience, in the context of interactions between one and another human being in a community, and it must also be a philosophical inquiry carried out by rigorously verifying what has been observed. It is concluded that a community where interest is shared, a habit of taking nothing for granted, a critical attitude of reflecting upon what has been known, and thinking skills that enable accurate verifications are the basic premises that make learning possible. Therefore, I claim that fostering such habits and attitudes should be of greatest importance in teaching philosophy and that it is also an essential role of the genuine education in our schools.;이 논문의 목적은 프래그마티즘의 ‘경험’을 고찰하여 배움이 철학함의 실천 과정임을 밝히는 데에 있다.
