가전제품의 기능별 작동효과음 공통적 사용요소에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 효과적인 사용자 인터페이스(User Interface) 개발 시 유용하게 활용될 수 있는 가전제품의 작동 효과음의 공통사항을 발견하는데 그 목적이 있다. 최근 다기능화, 복합화 되어가는 기기의 변화 속에서 생산자는 소비자의 다양한 욕구를 충족시키기 위하여 노력하며, 소비자는 개개인의 취향, 성격, 주요 관심사에 초점을 두고 선택하여 사용한다. 경쟁적 관점에서 새로운 기능의 추가나 타 제품의 기능까지도 흡수하여 적용되고 있는 제품의 수도 적지 않다. 이렇듯 다양한 소비자의 Needs에 맞게 끊임없는 노력을 하고 있음에도 불구하고 실제 사용하는 사용자적 측면에서의 효과적인 편의성을 제공할 수 있는 작동효과음에 대한 구체적인 연구가 미흡한 것이 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 가전제품의 기능별 작동효과음에 중점을 두고 실제 판매되고 있는 국내 가전제품들에 적용된 효과음에서의 공통요소를 발견하여 이러한 공통사항이 효과적으로 활용될 수 있는 기초연구로서의 제안으로 범위를 제안하고자 한다. 효과적인 사운드의 활용은 일반 사용자뿐 아니라, 시각적 장애로 불편함을 겪고 있는 사람들에게 편리성을 제공 할 수 있는 유용한 방법의 하나가 될 것이다. 본 연구는 사운드 존재 유용성을 기반으로, 실제 사용되고 있는 국내 가전제품의 Sound Sampling 작업을 통하여 각 기능별 음파간의 비교, 분석을 하였으며 조사 대상 제품으로는 대표되는 가전3사 즉, 삼성전자, LG전자, 대우일렉트로닉스의 전자레인지 5종과 세탁기 5종을 선정하여 실험하였다. 본 실험결과 전자레인지의 On/Off/Menu 작동효과음의 공통적 사용요소로는 첫째, Off음은 음의 반복의 형태로 되어있다. 둘째. 반복되는 Off음은 음의 길이의 변화를 이용한다. 셋째, Off음은 메뉴선택음보다 장음(長音)으로 되어있다. 넷째, Off음의 총 길이는 4초를 넘지 않는다. 다섯째, 메뉴 선택 음은 1초 이내의 단음(短音)으로 되어있다는 것이었으며, 동일 기능에 대한 세탁기의 발견된 규칙으로는 첫째, Off음은 음의 반복의 형태로 되어있다. 둘째, Off음은 On음보다 장음(長音)으로 되어있다. 셋째, 메뉴 선택 음은 1초 이내의 단음(短音)으로 되어 있다는 것이었다. 이러한 기능별 작동효과음 공통적 사용요소의 활용 제안은 사운드 디자인 기획부분에 있어 유용하게 활용될 수 있는 실증적 연구 자료가 될 것이다.;The purpose of this study was to identify the patterns with operational sound feedback of appliances so that the results could be made good use of in developing effective user interface. In the recent years, the products become increasingly multi-functional and combinational, responding to the diverse needs of consumers. Consumers focus on their individual taste, character, and interest in choosing a product. There are a good number of products that have added new functions or absorbed the functions of a different product line to survive fierce competitions. Although there have been much effort to meet the diverse needs of consumers, there are few concrete researches on sound feedback that could increase more convenient for the users. Thus this study set out to identify the patterns with the sound feedback of domestic appliances according to functions and to suggest some specific scopes for their effective uses. In addition, the effective uses of sound will be able to increase convenience of appliance use to those who have hearing impairment as well as general users. The research was to compare and analyze the sound waves of domestic appliances through sound sampling based on the usefulness of sound. Five kinds of microwave ovens and washing machines from the three makers, which were Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Daewoo Electronics, were investigated in the study. As a result, the On/Off/Menu sound feedback of the microwave ovens turned out to have the following patterns; first, the Off sound repeated itself. Second, the repeating Off sound used changes to the sound length. Third, Off sound was longer than Menu sound. Fourth, Off sound didn't last longer than four seconds. Fifth, Menu sound was short lasting less than one second. The same functions were examined for the washing machines. First, Off sound repeated itself. Second, Off sound was longer than On sound. Third, Menu sound was short lasting less than one second. The patterns with the sound feedback and the suggested applications will make useful empirical research results to be used in other sound design domains.
