자연 염료 프린팅을 이용한 텍스타일 디자인 연구

Abstract

자연염색은 인류가 수천 년 동안 주위의 자연환경으로부터 색을 얻어 온 방식이었으나, 1856년 퍼킨(W. H. Perkin)에 의해 화학염료가 등장함으로써, 그 편리성에 밀려 사라지게 되었다. 그러나 100여 년이 지난 지금 화학염료의 사용으로 인한 피해는 날로 심각해지고 있다. 화학염색은 그 경제성과 편리성에도 불구하고 웰빙(well-being)을 생각하는 현대사회의 관점에서 볼 때 치명적인 단점을 가지고 있다. 그것은 화학염색이 가진 염색과정에서의 공해 및 폐수배출 등의 환경오염과 관련된 것과 인체에 대한 유해성과 관련된 것이다. 문명이 발달하고 생활수준이 향상되면서 환경과 건강에 대한 추구, 소비의 개성화, 다양화, 고급화의 욕구는 자연염색에 대한 관심을 높이고 있다. 자연 염색은 다양한 색과 문양을 고려한다면 상당한 경쟁력을 가질 것으로 예상된다. 그러나 자연염색은 색상이 자연스럽고 자연친화적인 장점이 있음에도 불구하고 산업화되지 못하고 있다. 그 이유로는 자연색소가 불안정하고 염착력이 낮을 뿐 아니라 염색방법이 복잡하고 염색물의 재현성이 낮아 실용화되기 어렵기 때문이다. 또한 자연염색은 침염의 방법이 주류를 이루고 있기 때문에 다양한 색과 문양을 요구하는 현대 사회의 기호를 충족시키기 어려운 현실이다. 이런 의미에서 본 연구자는 섬유제품의 자연 친화적인 염색이 요구되는 최근의 국제 추세에 비추어 볼 때 자연염료의 안정화기술 개발과 염색기술의 과학화를 통한 염색의 재현성 확립이 자연염색의 산업화를 위해 필요하다고 생각한다. 또한 자연염료의 연구영역을 보다 확대시키기 위하여 침염 위주의 염색방법으로부터 자연염료의 스크린프린팅 기법을 공유함으로써 자연염색의 대중화와 특성화된 자연염색의 고부가가치의 섬유산업 발달을 꾀할 수 있을 것이라고 생각한다. 이런 의미에서 본 연구자는 다음과 같은 과정으로 연구를 진행하였다. 첫째, 한국전통문양을 문헌을 통해 고찰하고 시대적으로 분류하고 이를 다시 디자인별 분류하여 상징의미를 기술하였다. 둘째, 고대의 문양에 나타난 염색기법을 문헌을 통해 사라져가는 우리나라의 문양염의 역사와 기법의 종류를 본 연구에 도입하고자 하였다. 셋째, 자연염색의 특성과 현대 사회에 있어서 자연염색의 가치와 고부가가치 상품으로서의 가치를 연구하였다. 넷째, 자연섬유에 자연염료(날염, 발염, 번-아웃 기법)를 스크린 프린팅 기법을 이용하여 실제작품 총 27점을 제작하고 3그룹으로 나눠 한국전통문양의 현대적 해석 가능성을 연구하였다. 본 연구자는 이 연구가 과거와 현재의 교량적 역할을 함으로써 자연염색의 전통성과 역사적 의의를 계승, 발전시키고, 학문적으로 다양한 자연염색의 스크린 프린팅 방법을 체계적으로 정립하는 데에 도움이 되어 미래의 섬유산업의 발전에 적게나마 활용되었으면 한다.;These days, the textile industry demands natural and high-emotional products. As the alternative, dyeing printing which gives several advantages in textile industry, human and environment can be helpful to compete in Korean textile industry. Also, the industralization of the natural dyeing and specialized textile industry can be led by sharing the unique way of natural dyeing; discharging and burn-out. This survey is trying to investigate the meaning of the natural dyeing in the Korean traditional texture pattern and suggest the scientific way of recovering the disadvantage of the natural dyeing. Furthermore, the color of the natural dyeing is studied to find the several techniques of dyeing by researching the experimental data. Moreover, by dividing the experimental sample of dyeing techniques into three groups and using 27 textile designs. The textile designs have a few advantages that are antibiotic to human and environment and the designs give a high quality because of the metaphysical symbol which come from the Korean traditional design patterns. The results of the survey are following; First of all, by applying the natural dyeing printing to the textile, the way of life can be more natural in the near future in our modern industry. In addition, the investigation on the metaphysical meanings of the Korean traditional textile patterns can create the rest in the future lifestyle if the textile patterns are used to the design and produce the unique atmosphere. Secondly, this survey concludes that the several processes of the natural dyeing have possibility of industrialization and practicality by experimenting the several processes of dyeing including printing, discharging, and burn-out. Also, it finds the way of recovering the limit of the natural dyeing which is unstable in color so that it suggests that there is a post-dyeing process which can create the new fabric. Therefore, the researcher tries to rediscover the significance of the natural dyeing in Korean textile design, investigate the application of the way of the natural dyeing and testifies the possibility. Moreover, the researcher hopes the diverse techniques of the natural dyeing in this survey can be used to contribute the development of the natural dyeing in the scientific way of the fabric printing to be applied to the various fields of the textile design industry.
