부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 완벽주의가 학업지연행동에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study examined the direct and indirect effects of parental psychological control and adolescents' perfectionism on academic procrastination. A total of 352 1st and 2nd grade high school students(159 boys and 193 girls) living in Chung-Ju participated in the study. Children completed questionnaires on parental psychological control, Perfectionism and academic procrastination. The data were analyzed using t-tests, correlations, and Structural Equation Modeling(SEM). The main results were as follows: First, parental psychological control had a direct effect on academic procrastination. When adolescents' perceived parental psychological control high, their levels of academic procrastination increased. Second, Adolescent's self-oriented perfectionism mediated the relations between parental psychological control and academic procrastination. Adolescents who perceived higher levels of parental psychological control showed higher levels of self-oriented perfectionism, and adolescents who had higher level of self-oriented perfectionism reported lower levels of academic procrastination. Taken together, parental psychological control had a direct effect on academic procrastination and had an indirect effect on academic procrastination through self-oriented perfectionism. This study examined the effects of both environmental and individual factors to explain adolescents' academic procrastination. Findings from this study suggest that self-oriented perfectionism and socially prescribed perfectionism make a significant difference on academic procrastination. In addition, these findings have implications for future research and practice by highlighting the importance of parental psychological control and adolescent's perfectionism in developing intervention programs for academic procrastination.;본 연구의 목적은 부모의 심리적 통제가 학업지연행동에 미치는 직접적 영향과 청소년의 완벽주의를 통한 간접적 영향에 대해 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위하여 충북 충주시 소재 2곳의 고등학교에 재학 중인 1, 2학년 청소년 352명(남: 159명, 여: 193명)을 대상으로 질문지법을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 부모의 심리적 통제는 Soenens, Elliot, Goossens, Vansteenkiste, Luyten과 Duriez(2005)의 성취지향적 심리적 통제와 Olsen, Yang, Hart, Robinson, Wu, Nelson, Nelson, Jin과 Wu(2002)가 제작한 심리적 통제 및 과보호 양육행동척도(The Psychological Control & Overprotective/ Intrusive Measure; PCOIM)를 아동보고 형식으로 수정하여 사용한 김희영과 박성연(2008)의 질문지를 사용하여 측정하였다. 청소년의 완벽주의는 Flett, Hewitt, Boucher, Davidson과 Munro(2000)가 개발한 아동 · 청소년 완벽주의 척도(Child and Adolescent Perfectionism Scale; CAPS)를 한국의 실정에 맞게 번안 · 수정한 이재연(2004)의 척도를 수정 · 보완한 김희영과 박성연(2008)의 질문지를 사용하였고, 학업지연행동은 박재우(1998)가 번안한 Aitken(1982)의 지연행동척도(Aitken Procrastination Inventory; API)를 고등학생의 학업지연행동을 측정하는데 적합하도록 수정 · 보완한 추상엽(2008)의 질문지를 사용하여 측정하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 이용하여 변인들 간의 상관계수를 산출하고, 각 연구변인들에서 성차가 있는지 알아보기 위해 t 검증을 실시하였으며, 부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 완벽주의가 학업지연행동에 미치는 경로를 검증하기 위해 AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 구조방정식 모형(Structural Equation Modeling)을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모의 심리적 통제는 학업지연행동에 직접적인 영향을 미친 것으로 나타나, 청소년이 부모의 심리적 통제를 많이 지각할수록 학업지연행동을 더 많이 보였다. 둘째, 부모의 심리적 통제가 청소년의 완벽주의를 통해 학업지연행동에 미치는 간접적인 영향을 살펴본 결과, 청소년의 자기지향적 완벽주의와 사회부과적 완벽주의를 함께 포함한 구조모형의 경우에는 부모의 심리적 통제가 청소년의 완벽주의를 통해 학업지연행동에 미치는 간접효과는 유의하지 않았다. 자기지향적 완벽주의와 사회부과적 완벽주의를 분리하여 살펴본 결과, 부모의 심리적 통제는 청소년의 사회부과적 완벽주의를 매개로 학업지연행동에 영향을 미치지는 않았지만, 청소년의 자기지향적 완벽주의를 매개하여 학업지연행동에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 부모가 심리적 통제를 많이 보일수록 청소년의 자기지향적 완벽주의 성향이 높아지고, 자기지향적 완벽주의 성향이 높을수록 학업지연행동을 덜 보였다. 종합해보면, 부모의 심리적 통제는 학업지연행동에 직 · 간접적으로 영향을 미쳐, 청소년이 부모의 심리적 통제를 많이 지각할수록 학업지연행동을 더 많이 보였으며, 청소년이 부모의 심리적 통제를 많이 지각할수록 자기지향적 완벽주의 성향이 높아졌고 이는 학업지연행동의 감소로 연결되었다. 본 연구는 환경적 요인인 부모의 심리적 통제와 개인내적 요인인 완벽주의를 함께 고려하여 학업지연행동에 미치는 경로를 살펴보았으며, 자기지향적 완벽주의와 사회부과적 완벽주의가 학업지연행동에 미치는 영향에서 차이가 있음을 밝혔다는 데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 고등학생을 대상으로 학업지연행동에 관한 연구가 많지 않은 국내의 실정에서 학업지연행동의 선행요인을 밝힘으로써, 학업지연행동으로 인해 어려움을 겪는 청소년들을 위한 프로그램 개발 및 실시에 효과적인 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.
