페데리코 몸포우(Federico Mompou)의 《꿈의 전쟁(Combat del somni)》연구

Abstract

This paper is a study on Federico Mompou’s (1893-1987) Combat del somni (Dream Combat). Through this study of the work, the author will investigate Federico Mompou the representative composer of Catalonia province, Spain and try to help perform it actually. The late 19th century is a period of blossoming nationalism when folk songs into national emotions permeate in music were used in artistic songs. In Spain, by composers like Manuel de Falla(1876-1946), many pieces of music that express nationalism were composed. Composers in Catalonia also participated in this movement, and this study will shed new light on Federico Mompou, a representative composer of Catalonia as a nationalist composer. This paper first dealt with Federico Mompou’s life and the geographical and historical background of his home Catalonia and examined the Catalonian folk songs and folk song elements. In particular, dealing with the folk songs of Catalonia and Federico Mompou’s songs, it investigated how the folk songs of Catalonia were reflected to Federico Mompou’s songs, and then examined the type of music Federico Mompou expressed in this music, the relationship between lyrics and music and the method of performance through an analysis of Combat del somni. As a result, Federico Mompou’s music were expressed through his musical inspiration, French composers influences obtained during his study in Paris, flowing lyricism like flowing in the folk songs of Catalonia, simple modes and a Catalonian folk song rhythm. The elements he obtained while studying in Paris, France were mingled with a color of folk songs in his music and revealed the intrinsic characteristics of his music. His ‘inspiration’ and ‘simplicity’ used as musical materials appear as lyricism static and full of sorrow in most of Federico Mompou’s songs. French composer’s musical elements are mixed in Federico Mompou’s work, Combat del somni based on the simple rhythm of a folk song and lyricism like flowing. Federico Mompou, known as a representative composer of Catalonia joined the flow of nationalism by composing elaborate works containing the intrinsic lyricism of Catalonian people.;본 논문은 몸포우(Federico Mompou, 1893-1987)의 작품 《꿈의전쟁Combat del somni》을 연구한 것이다. 필자는 이 작품 연구를 통하여 스페인 카탈루냐 지방의 대표 작곡가인 몸포우를 조명하고 실질적인 연주에 도움이 되고자 한다. 19세기 말은 민족주의가 싹트는 시기로, 음악에서 민족적인 정서가 스민 민요를 예술가곡에 사용하였다. 스페인에서도 스페인의 마누엘 데 파야(Manuel de Falla, 1876-1946)등에 의해 민족주의를 담은 많은 곡들이 작곡되었다. 카탈루냐의 작곡가들 또한 이러한 움직임에 동참하였는데, 이에 카탈루냐의 대표 작곡가인 몸포우를 민족주의 작곡가로서 재조명하고자 한다. 본고에서는 먼저 몸포우의 생애와 그의 고향인 카탈루냐의 지리적, 역사적 배경을 다룬 후 카탈루냐의 민요와 민속적 요소에 대해 살펴 보았다. 특히, 카탈루냐의 민요와 몸포우의 가곡을 다루면서 카탈루냐의 민요가 몸포우의 가곡에 어떻게 반영되었는지 알아보고, 후에《꿈의전쟁》분석을 통해 몸포우가 이 곡에서 표현한 음악형식, 가사와 음악과의 관계, 연주방법에 대하여 살펴 보았다. 그 결과, 몸포우의 음악은 몸포우의 음악적 영감, 파리 유학 시절 얻어진 프랑스 작곡가들의 영향, 그리고 카탈루냐 민요에서 나타나는 흐르는 듯한 서정성과 단순성의 선법, 카탈루냐 민요적 리듬을 통하여 표현되어져 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 프랑스 파리 유학 시절 얻어진 요소들은 그의 음악에서 민요적 색채와 함께 어우러져 그의 음악에 고유한 특색을 드러내었다. 음악적 소재로 사용된 그의 ‘영감’과 ‘단순성’은 몸포우의 가곡들 대부분에서 정적이며 애수에 가득찬 서정성으로 나타난다. 몸포우의 작품 《꿈의전쟁》에는 단순한 민요적 리듬과 흐르는 듯한 서정성을 바탕으로 프랑스 작곡가들의 음악적 요소들이 혼합되어 있다. 카탈루냐의 대표 작곡가로 알려진 몸포우는 카탈루냐 민족의 고유한 서정성이 담긴 섬세한 작품들을 작곡함으로 민족주의의 흐름에 동행하였다.
