Johannes Brahms의 Cello Sonata Op.38 No.1에 대한 분석 및 연구

Abstract

This thesis analyzes on Johannes Brahms’ Cello Sonata Op.38 No.1 to understand Brahms’ musical world, personal life, and Sonata formality. Although Brahms lived in romanticism era, he developed his own musical style by fusing classicism and romantic, lyrical element exposing distinguishingly opulent emotion. Such Brahms’ experimental artistic beauty and newly represented technical skill made him to be a pioneer of neo-classicism. His works generally are deep and grandeur due to his heavy attention on composition. He insisted to prefer traditional classicism styled symphony to stand against Program Music, which was the mainstream of that time. Out of his various pieces such as symphony, chamber music, concerto, Geseng, and piano piece, his chamber music includes three string quartets, three piano trios, three violin sonatas, and two cello sonatas. His total 24 works brought him fame of composition maestro of 19th century chamber music. Cello sonata Op.38, No.1 was composed during his renaissance time, which represents typical romanticism and classical style at the same time. The piece comprises three movements. The first movement is in sonata form, which maintains classical style showing tonal development. The second movement is Menuetto with Trio, which shows unified flow of piece by adopting Da Capo. Lastly, the third movement has three parts using Fugue technique, representing distinguished style by gradual change from Fugue to Avant-garde. This thesis analyzes the piece by focusing on style, melody, harmony, rhythm and dynamics in order to appreciate the piece’s unified structure by understanding the relationship between Brahms’ own musical style and traditional classicism.;본 논문은 Johannes Brahms의 Cello Sonata Op.38 No.1에 대해 연구 분석하여 브람스의 생애와 음악세계, 음악적 특징 소나타 형식과 작품분석을 통해 이 곡을 충분히 이해하고 성숙한 연주에 도움이 되고자 한다. 브람스는 낭만주의 시대에 살았지만 고전주의 형식을 고수하면서 그만의 서정적이고 낭만적인 풍부한 감성을 효과적으로 융합시켜 자신의 음악세계를 구축 시켰으며 신선한 예술미와 새로운 기교로 독자적인 음악을 표현해온 신고전주의 악파의 대표자이다. 브람스의 작품들은 대체로 웅장하고 깊이가 있으며, 이는 작곡 방식에 신중을 기했다는 것을 알 수 있다. 그는 전통적 고전주의 형식의 교향곡과 실내악 등을 선호하였는데 이는 동시대에 주류를 이루었던 극음악이나 교향시 등의 표제예술에 대항한 그의 음악적 신념이라 볼 수 있다. 그가 남긴 곡은 교향곡을 비롯하여 실내악곡, 협주곡, 가곡 그리고 피아노곡 등 여러 방면에 걸쳐 많은 작품이 있는데 특히 실내악 분야에서는 3곡의 현악 4중주곡, 3곡의 피아노 3중주곡, 1곡의 호른 3중주곡, 1곡의 클라리넷 5중주곡, 3곡의 바이올린 소나타, 2곡의 첼로 소나타 등 전부 24곡의 작품을 작곡하여 19세기 실내악 작곡가중 거장이라 일컬어진다. Cello Sonata Op.38, No.1은 그의 전성기인 제 2기에 써진 작품으로 전형적인 낭만주의 음악이면서도 고전적 형식을 중요시한 작품이다. 곡의 구성은 3악장으로 제 1악장은 소나타 형식이며 고전시대의 양식을 유지하면서 형식적, 조성적으로 발전된 변화를 보여주고 있다. 제 2악장은 Trio를 갖는 Menuetto로서 Da Capo의 사용으로 곡의 흐름에 통일성을 준다. 제 3악장에서는 Fugue의 기법을 이용한 3부분 형식으로 Fugue에 사용되는 주제에 전위형태 등으로 변화함으로서 독창성 있는 형식으로 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 이 작품의 각 악장들을 형식, 선율, 화성, 리듬 다이내믹 등을 중심으로 분석하여 브람스의 음악적 특징적 형식과 고전적인 전통관계를 살펴보고, 곡의 전체적 통일성을 이루는 구조를 이해하며 그 밖의 곡의 주제와 음악적 아이디어를 어떻게 발전, 모방하였는지 살펴보고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다.
