가브리엘 피에르네(Gabriel Pierné)의 「Trois Pièces Op.29 No.1」에 관한 연구

Abstract

프랑스의 낭만시대는 오페라 음악과 발레음악, 오케스트라 음악과 같은 세속 음악이 발달한 시기였다. 특히 오케스트라 음악이 인기를 끌면서 대규모의 교향곡이 많이 작곡되었다. 이러한 영향으로 오르간 음악에서도 오케스트라적 요소를 결합시키고자 하였다. 이 움직임은 세자르 프랑크(César Franck 1822-1890)를 중심으로 심포닉 오르간 악파로 발전하였다. 심포닉 오르간 악파는 까바이예-꼴(Cavaillé-Coll, 1811-1899) 오르간을 바탕으로 발전하였는데 이 오르간의 가장 큰 특징은 오케스트라의 음향을 오르간에 접목시켰다는 점이다. 19세기 후반의 낭만 음악과 20세기 초반의 다양한 시도들이 공존했던 시대에 활동했던 가브리엘 피에르네(Gabriel Henri Constant Pierné, 1863-1937)는 프랑스의 오르가니스트이자 작곡가이며 지휘자이다. 그는 이 두 시대의 음악 요소를 결합하여 자신만의 음악 양식을 완성시켰다. 그의 음악은 전체적으로는 낭만주의적 성격을 고스란히 간직한 채 간간이 급진적인 요소를 사용하고 있다. 이러한 피에르네의 음악 양식은 그의 음악에서 잘 반영되어 나타난다. 그 중에서도 그의 오르간 작품 중 「Trois Pièces Op.29 No.1」은 심포닉 오르간 악파의 특징이 잘 나타나고 있다. 모두 3악장으로 구성된 이 작품은 그가 생 끌로띨드 교회(St. Clotilde)의 오르가니스트로 일하던 시기에 작곡된 곡이다. 1악장 프렐류드(Prélude)는 변주곡 형식을 지니며 갑작스러운 조성의 변화가 자주 나타나며, 증 4도와 감 5도 등의 독특한 음정이 특징이다. 2악장 칸틸레느(Cantilène)는 그가 지시한 오르간 음색이 심포닉 오르간의 특징을 잘 나타내 주고 있으며 아름답고 서정적인 멜로디가 인상적인 곡이다. 3악장 스케르잔도(Scherzando)는 푸가토를 포함하고 있는 것이 특징이며 주제 선율의 구성요소가 발전하며 전개된다. 또한 리듬의 변화를 통해 긴장감을 표현하였고 오케스트라적인 요소가 많이 나타난다. 이처럼 가브리엘 피에르네는 오르간 작품을 많이 남기지는 않았으나 19세기 후반의 과도기적인 시대의 풍조 속에서 낭만주의적 형식을 그대로 간직하며 새로운 20세기 음악으로 향하는 면모를 모두 보여주었던 작곡가이다. 이러한 점을 볼 때 피에르네는 두 시대의 대조되는 음악양식을 매끄럽게 연결해 주는 중추적인 역할을 함으로서 이후 20세기 프랑스 오르간 음악 발전에 기여하였다.;French music in the 19th century was characterized by the development of secular music such as those for operas, ballets and orchestras. In particular, a great number of large-scale symphonies were composed as orchestra music got popular. Due to this influence, there were attempts to integrate orchestral elements to organ music. This movement caused the development of the School of Symphonic Organ which was instigated by César Franck(1822-1890). This School development was based on the Cavaillé-Coll organ, and aimed to apply orchestral sounds to organs. Gabriel Pierné(1863-1937) was a French organist, composer and conductor who was active in the era where various attempts in the early 20th century coexisted with romantic music. Among his organ works, 『Trois Pièces Op.29 No.1」 truly represents the characteristics of the School of Symphonic Organ. His work, composed of three movements, was composed at a time when he worked as an organist for St. Clotilde. The Prélude of the First Movement is a variation with frequent key changes and has features of unique intervals of augmented fourth and diminished fifth. The Cantilène of the Second Movement’s organ stop ordered by him represents features of symphonic organs and is impressive in terms of beautiful and lyrical melodies. The Scherzando of the Third Movement has a feature of inclusion of fugato and forms the work with the development of elements of theme thematic melody. In addition, tension is expressed with rhythm change and the work has many orchestral elements. Even though he did not leave many organ works, Gabriel Pierné is a composer who managed to integrate the romanticism and chanting formats into 20th century music during the turn of the century. In this respect, he contributed to the development of French organ music in the 20th century by playing a pivotal role in smoothly linking two contradictory musical formats of two eras.
