엔니오 모리꼬네(Ennio Morricone)의 테마음악분석에 의한 음악적 스타일 연구

Abstract

영화는 하나의 예술로서 지금까지 중요한 자리를 차지하고 있다. 이렇게 영화가 발전하는 동안 영상의 일부로만 여겨졌던 영화 음악의 존재에 대한 필요성도 높아지게 되었다. 영화 속의 음악은 화면속의 평면적인 이미지를 더욱더 풍부하고 생생한 경험으로 만들어주며 영화에 대한 깊은 인상을 대중들에게 각인시켜준다. 이렇게 영화음악이 영상에서 차지하는 음악의 역할이 커지면서 영화의 주제를 나타내는 테마음악의 중요성은 날로 더해가고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 영화음악을 예술의 반열에 올려놓은 이탈리아 출신의 영화음악 작곡가 엔니오 모리꼬네의 테마음악의 분석을 통하여 영상과 테마음악의 상관관계와 더불어 그의 음악적 스타일의 특징에 대해 연구하고자 하였다. 연구 방법으로서, 그의 음악연구를 위하여 50여 년간 그의 음악세계와 영화음악 작곡가로 활동했던 시대부터 현재에 이르기까지 그의 작품 활동 시기를 데뷔기, 번영기, 완숙기의 세 개의 시기로 나누어, 그가 수상했던 작품과 후보에 올랐던 작품을 중심으로 대표작을 선정하여 총 15작품의 메인테마를 분석해봄으로서 그의 음악적 스타일의 특징을 고찰하였다. 작품 분석 결과, 그는 단순하지만 각인되는 메인테마선율을 만들어 내어 영화의 이미지를 형상화 할 수 있을 정도로 영화 전체의 주제에 부합되는 분위기와 영화의 스토리를 함축적으로 표현하였으며, 테마선율은 라이트모티브로 사용되어 인물의 성격이나 행동의 특징 등을 음악적으로 암시하여 캐릭터를 확고히 하는 데에 큰 역할을 하고 있다. 또한 선율을 연주하는 악기의 선택과 적절한 배치로 균형미 있는 음악을 만들어 내어 영상과의 완벽한 조화를 이루고 있었다. 이처럼 엔니오 모리꼬네의 테마음악은 단순한 배경으로서의 음악이 아닌 영화의 주제에 영향을 주며, 내러티브 전개에 주도적인 역할을 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 또한 영화의 내러티브와 연출의도를 완벽하게 파악하여 어느 한 곳 흠잡을 데 없이 완성도 높은 영화음악을 선사하며 친근하면서 서정이 넘치는 선율을 만들어내는 작곡가라고 할 수 있다. 연구를 통하여 영화 속 테마음악의 중요성에 대하여 알 수 있었으며, 또한 이탈리아 영화음악 작곡가에 대한 분석과 지속적인 연구의 필요성을 느낄 수 있는 계기가 되었다. 이렇게 영화 음악가들의 작품을 연구하고 분석하는 음악적 접근 방식은 작품 속에 드러나는 작곡가의 음악적 성향을 파악함과 동시에 연구자들의 음악적 가치관을 재정립하는 데에 큰 의미를 부여해줄 것이다.;As a form of art, movies have settled in an important position until now. As movies have developed until now, necessity of existence of film music, which was only considered as part of images, has increased. Music in films make flat images in screens into richer, vivid experiences and engraves deep impression of films into the public. As the role of film music in images has increased, importance of theme music showing the film topic is also growing. For this, this study analyzes theme music of Italian film music composer Ennio Morricone who has ranked film music into art. Along with correlation with images and them music, characteristics of this music style is studied. For study method of his 50 years of music research in the music world and film music composing era until today, his period of activity was divided into 3 periods of debut period, prosperity period, and full ripe period. Representative works were selected based on awarded works and nominee works in which main themes of a total of 15 works were analyzed to consider his characteristic of music style. As result of work analysis, he makes simple but catchy main theme melodies that implicatively express the atmosphere and story of film that is enough to embody the film image. Theme melodies have been used as light motive to imply characteristics and behavior of figures by music, and have a huge role in firming the character. Also, selection of instruments performing melody and appropriate arrangement makes balanced music to have perfect harmony with the image. Like this, Ennio Morricone theme music is not just simple background music, but gives influence to the film topic and has leading role in narrative development. Also, film narrative and direction aim is perfectly catched to present film music with high completeness which makes him a composer making friendly melody full of lyric. Importance of theme music in films could be known through this study and was an opportunity to sense the necessity of continuous analysis and research on Italian film music composers. Music approach method of researching and analyzing work of film musicians like this will help catch music tendency of composers in work and will add huge meaning in reestablishing music values of researchers.
