Abstract
Ratio is very familiar and comes across in our daily life, but studies regarding of ratio and proportion lean to an outer meaning and mathematical algorism rather than logical thinking education recognized fundamental concepts. To recognize and deduce, it is necessary to try to do one’s best to develop their abilities of ration inference along with resolving their ration problems by oneself. One of the methods to experience meaningfully is Mathematical modeling. It is alternative method because it can help to find itself and apply mathematical concepts, fundamentals, and rules by resolving their daily problems. Studies try to find out if experimental groups practicing mathematical modeling are different to inference ratio and resolve problems compared to comparative groups, existing general classes. Also experiences try to present how differences between ratio deduction levels and class activities practicing mathematical models. To solve the studies, 2 classes in 6th grades of S elementary schools in Seoul are chosen as subjects. One class is experimental groups and the other is comparative groups. After pretests, classes lesson 7 units proportional expression, 8 units ratio and proportional allotment for three weeks. The class, practicing mathematical modeling in experimental groups, is consisting of 12 lessons in total. It is 2 theme. Each theme is made up 6 lessons. Comparative groups conducted existing general classes. To verify if there are differences to resolve the problems between experimental groups and comparative groups, it is necessary to analyze the two independent samples, t-test which compares pre and after tests. As a result, the class practicing mathematical modeling was passively effect to the abilities of resolving problems, The study shows lessons used the mathematical modeling are positively effect to develop the level of proportion inference throughout confirming the level of proportion inference by analyzing the strategies of proportion inference, appeared the pre and after examinations Per type of problems, the level of doing the addition and the quality of the interference were decreased, but the level of doing multiplication was increased. As results of verifying the level of proportion inference in the process of the lessons used the mathematical methods in the experimental groups, in the mathematical modeling class 1, the level of the quality of inference and multiplied inference were presented, but only multiplied inference level were appeared in the class 2, practicing mathematical modeling. In conclusion, ratio and proportion classes used mathematical modeling affected positively and also helped to develop the level of proportion inference. Throughout the studies, the classes practicing mathematical modeling, rather than the class used the text book, can contribute to increase the abilities to resolving problems and the level of proportion inference as well as achieving the strategies of multiplied inference of the students.
