Infrastructure holds an important role to the economic development of a country. Poor infrastructure impedes a nation’s economic growth and international competitiveness (The World Bank 2006), and unfortunately, this is the problem currently faced by Indonesia. The existence of heavily damaged roads, suffocating long-lasting traffic jam, insufficient water supply in several areas, the periodical absence of electricity for its citizens, and the difficulties in commuting from one place to another place clearly shows infrastructure inadequacy in Indonesia. Underlining the fact that Indonesia is a country with abundant deposits of resources such as petroleum, natural gas, and valuable minerals, this infrastructure inadequacy is not supposed to be present. Given the Frischmann’s infrastructure theory, the abundant resources in Indonesia can be judiciously utilized to ensure adequate infrastructure for Indonesians (Mandel, 2008). Why then, the infrastructure in Indonesia remains inadequate despite the abundant resources possessed by the country?. This research is aimed to understand the existing infrastructure condition as well as its relation with the growth of the economy in Indonesia. By studying and analyzing the current infrastructure in Indonesia and its influence to the economy of Indonesia and vice versa, the goal of this research is to provide answers to the question: “How to develop the infrastructure in Indonesia?” This question rises other following questions such as “What would the challenges be in the efforts of developing infrastructure in Indonesia? What are the strategies to overcome these challenges?” Aiming to answer the questions above, this paper has been divided into six chapters. First chapter provides an introduction for a better and deeper understanding of the study and second chapter reviews the existing literatures related to infrastructure, its development, and its role in the economic growth of countries, focusing in Indonesia. The third chapter discusses about the economy of Indonesia and its connection with the Infrastructure. The fourth chapter explores the current situation of Indonesia’s infrastructure, followed by the fifth chapter that deals with market survey where the opinions of infrastructure experts are discussed. The sixth chapter will provide the key findings of the research and discusses about the challenges and strategies for Indonesia’s infrastructure. The last chapter, the seventh chapter, will conclude the study.-
