This course intends to integrate discussion skills with various genres of writing for elementary school students in Korea; these students are motivated to study beyond regular classroom curriculum. This book targets intermediate level students who are able to talk and write about familiar topics relating to their daily life and recombine learned material to express personal meaning. (ACTFL, 2012). All units are structured based on the theme of school related activities, and the principles of Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) are incorporated (Richards & Rodgers, 2001). Learners learn a second language by interacting communicatively and purposefully while they are engaged in meaningful activities (Willis & Willis, 2007). The feature of this textbook is that it provides various fun and meaningful activities that encourage students to communicate with each other in pairs or groups in English. According to Nunan(2004), lessons and materials should provide a supportive framework for learners to accomplish a larger task. In this book, each unit is organized with many pre-task activities in reading, speaking and writing to activate learners’ knowledge about the unit theme by connecting some reading materials to the main tasks in discussion and writing. The expected students’ language level is intermediate high level (ACTFL). The target students understand main ideas of simple texts while listening, speaking and reading. They can compose simple sentences on topics with which they are familiar, although, they still make some grammatical errors. Thus, this course is for an EFL class and could possibly be taught at private institutes. The class is intended for small groups so that teachers can focus on each student’s progress and provide feed back.-
