어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 모-자녀 간 의사소통이 남녀 청소년의 우울에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 어머니의 정서표현 양가성, 모-자녀 간 의사소통 및 남녀 청소년의 우울 간의 관계를 살펴보고, 모-자녀 간 의사소통이 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 남녀 청소년의 우울 간의 관계에 있어서 매개적 역할을 하는지를 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해, 서울시 및 수도권에 위치한 2개의 중학교에 재학 중인 233명의 남녀 청소년과 그 어머니를 대상으로 하여, 질문지법을 이용해 자료를 수집하였다. 어머니의 정서표현 양가성은 King과 Emmons(1990)가 개발한 정서표현에 대한 양가성 질문지(Ambivalence over Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire: AEQ)를 최해연(2008)이 번안한 한국판 정서표현 양가성 척도(AEQ-K)를 사용하였으며, 모-자녀 간 의사소통은 Barnes와 Olson(1982)이 개발한 부모-자녀 간 의사소통 척도(Parent-Adolescent Communication Inventory)를 민하영(1991)이 번안한 청소년용 질문지를 어머니용으로 수정하여 측정하였다. 그리고 청소년의 우울은 Radloff(1977)의 Center for Epidemiologic Studies-Depression Scale(CES-D)을 전겸구ㆍ최상진ㆍ양병창(2001)이 번안⋅수정한 통합적 한국판 CES-D 척도를 사용하여 측정하였다. 자료 분석을 위해 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 연구변인에서의 성차를 알아보기 위한 t 검증, 연구변인 간의 상관관계를 산출하고, 단순회귀분석, 중다회귀분석 및 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남자 청소년은 어머니의 정서표현 양가성이 높을수록, 긍정적 감정이 낮고, 우울 감정은 높고, 신체 및 행동이 둔화되며, 대인관계로 인한 우울을 높게 겪었다. 반면에, 여자 청소년의 경우에는 어머니의 정서표현 양가성이 청소년의 우울에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 둘째, 남자 청소년은 모자간 의사소통이 역기능적일수록 긍정적 감정은 낮고, 우울 감정은 높았으며, 대인관계에서 경험한 우울이 높았다. 모자간의 개방적 의사소통은 남자 청소년의 우울에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 여자 청소년의 경우, 모녀간의 개방적, 역기능적 의사소통은 여자 청소년의 우울에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 셋째, 어머니의 정서표현 양가성이 높을수록 모자간, 모녀간 의사소통은 덜 개방적이었고, 역기능적이었다. 마지막으로, 남자 청소년의 경우, 모자간 역기능적 의사소통은 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 청소년의 대인관계로 인해 겪는 우울 간의 관계에서 부분 매개 역할을 하였다. 반면, 여자 청소년의 경우에는 매개적 효과가 발견되지 않았다. 본 연구는 어머니의 정서표현 양가성, 모-자녀 간 의사소통, 남녀 청소년의 우울 간의 관계를 살펴봄으로써 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 모-자녀 간 의사소통, 청소년의 우울 간의 관계에서 성차를 확인하였다. 어머니의 정서표현 양가성은 모-자녀 간 역기능적 의사소통과 남자 청소년의 우울 수준을 증가시키는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 남자 청소년의 대인관계에서의 우울 간의 관계에서 모자간 역기능적 의사소통의 매개적 역할을 발견함으로써, 어머니의 정서표현 양가성과 모-자녀 간 역기능적 의사소통이 남자 청소년의 대인관계에서의 우울을 예측하는 데 중요한 요인임을 밝혔다. 본 연구결과는 남자 청소년의 우울을 예측하는 요인을 알아봄으로써, 청소년 우울의 예방 및 치료적 개입 시 어머니의 정서적 특성과 모-자녀 간 의사소통의 중요성을 밝혔다는 점에서 의의가 있다.;The main purpose of this study was to examine the relations between maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, mother-adolescent communication and adolescents' depression. Also, this study examined a mediating role of mother-adolescent communication between maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and adolescents' depression of adolescent boys and girls. The participants of this study were 233, first grade middle schools students(128 boys and 105 girls) and their mothers living in Seoul and Gyoung-gi Do. Data were collected using three kinds of questionnaires regarding maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, mother-adolescent communication and adolescents' depression. The questionnaires of marital ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and mother-adolescent communication were rated by adolescents' mothers. The questionnaires of adolescents' depression were rated by adolescents themselves. Data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, simple regression analysis, multiple regression analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The main results of this study were as follows. First, boys whose mother had a higher level of ambivalence over emotional expressiveness showed lower positive emotion, higher depressed affect, somatic and retarded activity, experienced depressive emotions in interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, for girls, maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness didn't have a significant impact on adolescents' depression. Second, for boys, problem communicating with mother was related to low positive emotion, high depressed affect, and experiencing depressive emotion in interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, open communication with mother was not related to boys' depression. Both open and problematic communication between mother and an adolescent girl didn't have significant impact on depression. Third, the higher maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness was, the less open communication between mother-adolescent boy and mother-adolescent girl showed. Finally, for boys, problem communicating with mother played partial mediating roles between ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and experiencing depressive emotions in interpersonal relationships. On the other hand, for girls, mediating roles were not found. The present study investigated the relations between maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness, mother-adolescent communication, and adolescents' depression. The result highlighted that maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness increased adolescents' problematic communication with mother and adolescent boys' depression. In addition, the finding underscored the importance of negative effect of maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and the partial mediating role of problematic communication between mother and adolescent boy in predicting depressive experiences in interpersonal relationships. Especially, this study found that boys were significantly affected by maternal ambivalence over emotional expressiveness and problematic communication. This research holds the significance as it has broadened the range of understanding of the adolescents' depression, and can be used for developing the intervention program to prevent adolescents' depression.
