학령기 아동의 부모에 대한 애착과 공감이 사회적 능력에 미치는 영향

Abstract

This study investigated both the direct and indirect influences of parent attachment on children's social competence by exploring the pathways between parent attachment, empathy, and children's social competence. The participants in this study were 403 elementary school 5th, 6th graders(of which 192 were boys, and 211 were girls) in Gyoung-gi Do. They completed questionnaires on parent attachment, empathy, and social competence. All the questionnaires were rated by the children themselves. Data were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling using AMOS 18.0. The main results of this study were as follows: It was found that parent attachment indirectly, but not directly, influenced children's social competence through empathy. Children's empathy mediated the effects of parent attachment on the levels of child social competence. These results clearly indicate that attachment and empathy play a significant role in improving the levels of children's social competence. The findings of this study have a number of implications for research and practice, which highlights the important considerations that both cultivating positive parent attachment and empathy should be emphasized in prevention and intervention programs for parent education.;본 연구는 학령기 아동의 부모에 대한 애착과 공감이 사회적 능력에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 탐색하는 것을 주목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 수도권 소재 초등학교 5, 6학년에 재학 중인 남녀 아동 403을 대상으로 하여, 질문지법을 이용해 자료를 수집하였다. 학령기 아동이 지각하는 부모에 대한 애착은 Armsden & Greenberg(1987)의 부모애착 척도(Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment: IPPA)를 번안⋅수정한 옥정(1998)의 척도를, 아동의 공감능력은 Davis(1980)의 IRI 검사(Interpersonal Reaction Index)와 Bryant(1982)의 정서 공감 척도(Index of Empathy for children and Adolesents)를 박성희(1997)가 번안⋅수정한 공감 능력 검사지를, 아동의 사회적 능력은 Doh & Falbo(1999)가 개발한 초등학생용 사회적 능력 척도(The Three Scales of Social Competence)를 사용하여 측정하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 변인들 간의 t 검증 및 상관관계를 산출하고, AMOS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 구조방정식을 이용한 경로분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 연구문제에 따른 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 먼저 부애착 및 모애착은 사회적 능력에 직접적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 다음으로 부애착 및 모애착과 공감이 사회적 능력에 미치는 경로와 관련하여, 아동의 공감은 부애착 및 모애착과 사회적 능력 간의 관계를 완전매개하였다. 즉 부애착과 모애착이 높을수록 아동의 공감능력이 높았고, 이는 아동의 사회적 능력에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 본 연구는 학령기 아동의 부모에 대한 애착 및 공감이 사회적 능력에 미치는 경로를 탐색함으로써 부모에 대한 아동의 애착이 어떠한 경로를 통해 사회적 능력에 이르게 되는지를 밝혔다는 점에서 학문적 의의가 있다. 또한 아동의 사회적 능력을 높이기 위해서 남녀 모두 부모애착과 공감을 향상시키기 위한 중재적 노력의 필요성을 확인하였으며, 이러한 결과는 학령기 자녀를 둔 부모를 대상으로 한 부모교육이나 아동을 대상으로 한 정서교육 프로그램을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
