도시 이미지를 표현한 도자 벽장식 연구

Abstract

근·현대에 들어서 인류는 도시라는 새로운 주거환경을 형성하고 그 안에서 살아가고 있다. 현대의 도시인들은 도시공간 안에 나타난 삭막한 인위적, 기능적 도시 환경을 개선하고자 노력하였다. 도시는 수많은 현대 예술의 소재가 되었다. 도시에 대한 일반적인 인식은 자연과 대비되는 기계적이고 차가운 이미지, 인위적이고 복잡한 이미지로 도시를 바라보는 방식이다. 그러나 현대의 도시는 보다 다양한 의미로 해석될 수 있는데, 정형성과 개성의 공존, 인공미 안의 일탈 등 인공적 구조 안에서도 다양한 표정을 가진 공간이다. 본 논문은 도시의 일원적인 해석을 거부하고 보다 다양한 의미의 도시이미지를 표현하고자 하였다. 도시공간의 정형성과 다채로운 변형이라는 이중적인 성격을 구현하기 위해 색채와 형태를 이용한 다양한 형태 변환을 시도하였고, 도시가 지닌 생명력을 나타낼 수 있는 표현을 탐구하였다. 이 같은 도시의 다양한 이미지와 의미를 형태로 재구성하기 위해 현대 도시의 이미지 중 도시경관을 기하학적으로 추상화하는 표현에 주목하였다. 도시 경관에서 찾아볼 수 있는 사각형, 원, 육각형 등 기하학적 이미지는 도시 이미지 전달에 매우 효과적이다. 네모난 빌딩부터 도시의 실루엣까지, 기하학을 중심으로 한 도형들의 다양한 변화를 통해 작품에서는 도시의 질서, 간결함, 단순함, 명료성 등을 표현하였다. 특히 사각형 구조를 중심으로 한 유닛(Unit)의 활용과 사각형 구조 안에서 원과 곡선 등 다양한 형태로 표현하였다. 벽장식 역시 공간의 의미를 구성하는 도자 설치 방법 중 하나이다. ‘벽’이라는 인공적 구조에 설치하여 다양한 형태의 표현이 가능한 도자 장식은 기능적, 장식적 요소를 넘어 독립적인 예술작품으로 각광받고 있는 분야이며, 실내공간 안에서도 거주자의 개성을 표현하는 중요한 요소이다. 도시 이미지에 대한 다양한 해석을 통한 벽장식은 현대인들의 도시공간에 대한 이해를 새롭게 하며 일상적, 정형화된 공간으로만 바라보았던 도시의 풍경을 미적 감상의 대상으로 생각할 수 있는 계기를 마련할 수 있으리라 기대하였다. 본 연구방법으로는 도시이미지가 지닌 다양한 구조적 형태와 조형적 특성을 표현하고자 전문서적과 학술논문을 통하여 도시공간의 미학적 측면을 살펴보았다. 벽장식의 역사적 배경을 통해 동·서양의 도자 벽장식에 관한 시대적 배경과 변천을 알아보고, 실내 도자벽장식의 특성과 제작방법에 따른 유형을 살펴 보았다. 도시 이미지에 대한 새로운 해석을 통한 실내 벽장식은 도시공간에 대한 이해를 새롭게 하며 일상적이고 정형화된 공간으로만 바라보았던 도시이미지를 여러방식으로 탐구하는 기회가 되었다. 특히, 도시이미지를 표현하는데 있어서 기하학적 도형은 규칙적이고 일정한 질서를 지니기에 도시이미지 전달에 효과적인 형태이고 부조형식의 벽장식을 통해 기존의 타일형식의 단조로움을 피할 수 있었으며, 실내공간의 조화를 위하여 실내공간의 크기 배색, 조명 등을 고려한 디자인이 선행되어야 하며 전체적인 구도의 조화를 고려해야함을 알게 되었다. 본 연구를 통해 도시의 환경과 도자예술의 결합을 시도하였으며 이러한 도자벽장식은 예술적 실내환경조성에 기여함과 동시에 풍요로운 공간을 창출시킬것이다. 아울러 도시 이미지를 표현한 도자 벽장식을 통해 현대예술로서의 도자 예술의 표현 가능성을 모색하였으며, 도시 및 환경에 대한 이미지 표현의 여러 방식을 탐구하는 기회가 되었다.;Human lives on in correlations with the environment. Trends such like integration of the industry and population concentration etc as modern society’s characteristics provide motives of changes so that human could live on while foaming cities. Human has endeavored to improve urban environments that have been just served to artificial and functional roles within urban spaces. Urban environments of modern times propose subsequent new senses and stimulus, unfamiliar beauties while suggesting a lot of methods of making human and nature coexisted. These new senses of cityscapes became material matters of modern arts. Modern arts dealing with cities have endeavored to extract formative elements in orders and rules, and expressed it by recomposing esthetic experiences and deep emotions through cityscapes. This study tries to investigate on the method of recomposing modern city’s images through a ceramic design of wall-decorating work. The space does not have simple geographical meanings only. The place itself is spaces of making intimacies with others while human is living, and the spaces such as house and school etc have special meanings socially and emotionally. To modern people, the city itself is an important element of composing individuals because of their birth and growing-up places, sites of livings, and intimacies’ occurrences. The wall-decoration is one of ceramic- installing methods composing space’s meanings too. The ceramic decoration through which various type’s expressions are possible by installing it to artificial structures called ‘wall’ is a field of taking the limelight as independent art works exceeding functional and decorative elements. The study paid attention to expressions of abstracting cityscapes geometrically among modern city’s images. Spatial configuration types of the city are functional. Street and house, office and business sections were all composed based on functional location’s selections and building designs by considering density, zone, and distances etc. This study kept on eye on geometric expressing concepts so as to express city’s order, functionality, simplicity and clarity. Conclusions of this study are same as followings. First, quadrangle among various diagrams having been plotted for expressing the cityscapes geometrically is a very effective diagram in delivering city’s images. From various changes of diagrams based on quadrangle from rectangular building to city’s silhouette, city’s order, briefness, simplicity, clarity can be expressed. Second, the study researched on positive expressing methods of city images. Though city’s images indicated such like ‘departed hometown’ and contrary meaning to the first-generation urban settlers, but it is places of overwhelmed vitality, memories, and intimacies together with ‘hometown’ itself to over second-generations who were born and then finish their lifetime. In order to implement these positive images of city spaces, this study investigated vivid expressing methods through which various variations and healthy vitalities could be expressed by using colors and forms. The purpose of this study is to portray the various structural formations and three-dimensional characteristics perceived from the city’s images through wall-decorations. In order to accomplish this, through the studying of many academic researches and technical reports, I had looked into the city space from aesthetic view point as well as considering the rectangular unit abstracted in the process to be the symbol of city as well as all matters such as the two sides of the city structure and restrictions. In the process of conducting this research, I have discovered that the city’s images could be an unlimited subject for expressions. The urban wall-decoration expressing city images expands expressing possibilities of ceramic arts as modern arts, and provides opportunities of investigating various forms on city and environment images' expressions at the same time.
