자연의 이미지를 응용한 패션디자인 연구

Abstract

자연은 인류의 역사와 함께 하면서 인간의 오랜 관심사가 되어 왔다. 인간은 자연을 모방하거나 자연으로부터 영감을 얻으면서 문화를 발전시켜 왔다. 자연은 시각 예술로써 그 아름다움을 지니고 있어 인간을 둘러싼 다양한 영역에서 중요한 모티브로 활용 되고 있다. 현대 사회에서는 자연을 인간의 감성적, 미적 표현 소재로 인식되어 자연을 이용한 다양한 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 인간과 가장 친숙한 자연의 이미지를 예술적 관점에서 접근하여 자연을 아름답게 표현한 이미지를 의상에 접목하고자 한다. 이는 자연의 이미지를 현대적인 기술인 디지털 프린팅과 디지털카메라를 이용하여 자연이라는 아날로그적인 소재를 현대적으로 표현하고자 함이다. 이로 인해 현대 패션 디자인에서 자연을 이용한 표현 영역을 확대하고 예술적인 가치를 부여 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 연구의 범위는 디지털 카메라로 촬영한 자연의 이미지 중 섬세하고 예술적인 자연을 표현하는 현대사진 작가인 ‘민철기’(www.charsmin.com)의 ‘Wind'시리즈로 그 범위를 국한 한다. 이에 'Wind'시리즈 중 선정한 7가지 모티브를 컴퓨터 그래픽작업을 통해 회화적으로 응용하여 의상에 적용시켜 보았다. 자연의 이미지를 시각적으로 선명하고 효과적으로 표현하기 위하여 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅 기법을 도입하였다 본 연구를 위해서 먼저 문헌과 자료검색을 통해 자연의 예술적 가치와 시대별 표현 배경 및 특성을 살펴보았다. 또한 패션에 나타난 자연의 이미지의 사례를 분석하여 이를 통해 자연이 표현된 특성을 알아보았다. 다음으로, 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅에 관한 일반적인 개념과 표현 기법을 파악하고 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅이 현대패션에 응용된 사례를 살펴보았다. 디지털 텍스타일 프린팅은 디자인 및 색상 조정, 염료 배합 등의 전 과정이 모두 컴퓨터에 의해 관리되므로 다양한 디자인의 가능성을 지닌다. 이러한 장점에 착안하여 자연의 이미지를 응용하여 디자인의 모티브를 구성하였다. 위의 이론적 연구와 분석을 바탕으로 자연의 이미지를 이용한 패션 디자인 총 8벌의 작품을 제작하였다. 작품 제작을 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연의 이미지는 아름다운 예술적 가치를 지니고 있으며 이를 다양한 시각적 표현의 모티브로의 활용가능성을 지니고 있음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 둘째. 디지털 사진 이미지는 컴퓨터의 입력과 재구성 과정이 일반 그래픽 작업보다 용이하고 DTP기법을 통해 회화적인 변형과 모티브의 현대적 응용이 가능하다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 셋째. 의상에 표현된 자연의 이미지를 DTP기법을 통해 색감과 형태를 디테일하게 표현할 수 있음을 확인 하였다. 넷째. 실크 및 울, 쉬폰, 쟈카드 등의 다양한 소재를 DTP기법을 통해 의상으로 제작하고 소재에 따른 색감과 그에 따른 다양한 활용 가능성을 확인 하였다. 다섯째. 실크소재의 특징에 맞는 섬세한 봉재기법을 복합적으로 사용함으로써 의상의 고급스러움을 더하고 프린트의 질감을 풍부하게 표현 할 수 있었다. 이와 같이 자연의 이미지가 의상에 적용되었을 때 그 결과가 예술적 표현 가치를 지닌 것을 알 수 있었으며, 이를 통해 패션 디자인의 예술적이고 과학적인 표현 영역 확대의 가능성을 확인 할 수 있었다. 따라서 앞으로도 다양하고 회화적인 작가의 감성이 투영된 디자인 개발을 통해 패션 산업의 발전에 새로운 가치를 창출 할 수 있는 가능성을 기대해 본다.;Art, culture and science have converged together with unclear boundaries in this digital era. It may have been by natural cause or by men and by doing so; we have come to an era where everything is evolving rapidly. Through these changes, we are now able to encounter diverse cultures and benefiting from such innovations. However, mankind’s basic instinct has always been and has shown in the want and need towards nature’s purest along with the sensibility of the analog era. Current cultural art has been implementing new technology along with keeping in mind of the purity and sensitivity of us; with motives from artists implementing the messages that all mankind are or take apart in nature along with how we interact with nature itself. Fashion is an art form where human encounters the most in their everyday life; and with these characteristics; fashion is the most realistic way of communicating in an art form with people these days. Combining IT with Fashion design in this era has become inevitable with keeping in mind of humans basic instincts and wants for nature and the analog era of how thing were done in the past. Designer has been combining art crafts along with different genre of art to create new values and to open up their door using fashion as a way to communicate and suggest fashion as an art form. In this research, I am approaching mankind’s route, which is nature along with implementing photography to modern fashion. With one of the most modern technology, which is digital photography along with digital textile printing, with the direct yet indirect relationship of something that can be seen to the eye, and something that can be worn, the motive is to improve the expression aspect of fashion. For this research, different types of sources has been analyzed and researched in the criteria of beauty at its purest form along with going over the background of expression through art with its unique characteristic. Photography also has been carefully viewed with understanding its art form as well. And last but not least, research has been done on previous fashion design cases where digital textile printing was implemented to come to a conclusion of feasibility and possibilities of various different designs. Photography Art pieces by Chul Ki Min has been used to create my portfolio. Chul Ki Min is a photographer based in Santa Barbara who has a motive in photographing nature at its purest form. His style of photography consist minimum digital manipulation using Photoshop. Instead he uses long exposure on nature to bring out the movements and its beauty at the way nature may have intended us to see. The type of nature photography combined with clothing works well with the original idea and thesis of this research it self. Because of the unique characteristic of DTP and how it may act different according to different variables, conditions, and the type of textile that was being used, combination of different color densities and dye mixture proportions were calibrated with the computer at sight to bring out the colors that was correct and desired. Silk was used to minimize texture with consideration to emphasizing and bringing out the image on the clothing. To project natural emotion and sensibility, simple and something wearable has been silhouetted on to the design for this portfolio. This research is to analyze the theory stated above to illustrate the fashion step that has been taken into account to correlate and bring together both fashion and nature as a binding source to elevate mankind’s sensibility in this ever evolving and rapidly changing society. Combined with scientific, and technological methods and two different types of art medium such as fashion, and photography will have a synergy effect in visual art with opening up more ground, opportunities and physical presence to each art’s medium.
