dc.description.abstractEven though many Korean students are enthusiastic about learning English, most students still have difficulties speaking aloud in an effective manner. According to Cho (2004), this is because Koreans take education very seriously owing to the cultural emphasis on competition involved in entering university. Consequently, many Korean students lack confidence in their English ability, especially in public speaking. As a result, Nam (2008) says that the National English education system in Korea has taken steps to address the need to improve students’ spoken English ability since the 6th curricular. This portfolio aims to help students develop communicative competence in terms of debating skills about controversial issues. Students, therefore, will be able to broaden their knowledge and express their opinions on selected topics through diverse activities in this book.-
