식물 채집을 통한 자연 순환의 이미지 표현

Abstract

Zhuangzi once stated that "By accepting the changes of time and following the law of the nature, sadness and enjoyment cannot be seized in our heart." This can be interpreted that nature and human should integrated by not being against the nature and accepting changes of the nature as it is. The nature influences to human emotionally and mentally through basic figures of natures like four seasons, leaves, and falling blossoms. Through those figures of nature, human tends to find comfort in their life. Due to the influence of nature to human, various circulations and cycles of nature give such a great source of subject to artists by working beyond the painting genuine image of nature and create completely new form of image or outcome through their work by integrating nature and themselves. It proves that humans are living and breathing with nature and it can be reinterpreted that we are the part of basic flow in nature. Throughout the thesis, the expression on image of circulation in nature through plants collection will the fundamental focus of the research. In theoretical foundation, the circulation of nature will be discovered through creation and extinction of nature and the link between works of artists and images of circulation in nature will be discovered after. Furthermore, the true meaning of collecting plants will explained in the theoretical foundation. In order to express the theme of own works, plants were collected as the mean of motivation. Personally, collecting plants was another method of daily journal. By collecting plants on daily basis, I was able to understand the basic ecology and circulation in nature, and it beame the motivation of my works. Collecting plants is a memorable and warm record for me, just like people take a picture or write a document to capture the memorable moment, and I expressed those collected plants in my painting. The process of collecting plants was both comfort and cure for me and it was crucial part my works at the same time. From the process of collecting plants including leaf and flower to deliver into my paintings, they were all activity of comfort. I was both fascinated and dispirited when I found those plants in my bookmark get changed and I was fluttered and excited when I experienced the circulation in nature. Based on my experience, I found out that repeated process of circulation of nature was similar to human life and I researched such a meaningful insight through my paintings. In terms of methodological research, I searched for relationship of my works based on the examples which used nature as a medium of subject. Especially, I gave much attention to work of Wolfgang Laib which was done with flower power. By interpreting work of Wolfgang Laib, I was able to find such a closeness and intimacy toward the nature and genuine beauty of nature altogether and strong relationship between my works and circulation in nature which delivered by Laib through flower powder with its rational process of work led me to study his work. The important finding through this study was that the viewpoint on high intimacy toward the nature by Asians and their tendency of following the law of nature were originated from the asthetic of Asian or oriental perspective. This unique viewpoint toward the nature allowed me to further study for examples which used nature as a fundamental subject, particularly in Korean art. In methodological research, I reinterpreted my paintings and their process through a deep-color pigment method as well as the intrinsic meaning of a deep-color pigment method for my paintings and the fundamental rationale behind them. In this thesis, I focused on the fundamental meaning of circulation in nature and plants collection which were the basic source of my paintings. And I also tried to interpret how the image of circulation in nature were expressed in my paintings in details. Based on this research, I plan to find concrete basis and direction for my future paintings and it will be the most significant meaning for me.;장자는 “시간의 변화에 안존하고 자연의 순리에 따른다면 슬픔과 즐거움이 마음에 파고들지 못한다.” 고 하였다. 이는 자연을 거스르지 않고 자연의 변화에 따르면서 자연의 있는 그대로를 받아들여 인간과 자연이 하나되는 것과 같을 것이다. 자연은 인간에게 심리적으로 많은 영향을 끼친다. 자연의 사계, 또는 꽃잎의 낙화등 인간은 자연을 통해 위안을 삼고, 때로는 자연 안에서 편안함을 느끼기도 한다. 많은 자연의 순환의 모습들은 있는 그대로가 예술가들에게 있어 작품의 소재가 되기도 하며, 단순히 자연을 소재로 재현해내는 것이 아니라 자연과 물아일체가 되어 새로운 형태의 작품을 만들어낸다. 이렇듯 자연의 흐름 속에서 인간은 자연과 함께 숨쉬며 살아간다. 자연이라는 것은 인간에게 너무도 가까운 대상이며, 자연의 흐름과 같이 살아간다고도 말할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 식물 채집을 통해서 자연 순환의 이미지가 어떻게 표현되었는지 연구하고자 한다. 이론적 배경에서는 자연의 생성과 소멸을 통해 자연의 순환을 살펴본다. 그리고, 자연 순화의 이미지가 작품으로 어떻게 표현되었는지 살펴본다. 구체적으로 이론적 배경에서는 식물 채집의 의미를 살펴본다. 주제를 표현하기위한 모티브로써 식물채집을 하였다. 식물 채집은 본인에게 있어 일기와도 같다고 말 할 수 있다. 일기를 쓰듯이 식물 채집을 하고 그런 과정을 통해서 자연의 순환과 식물의 생태를 잘 느끼게 되었고, 이것이 곧 작업의 모티브가 되었다. 본인에게 식물채집은 기억하고 싶은 따뜻한 소망과도 같은 것이다. 사람들이 어느 한 순간을 기억하고 싶어서 사진을 찍거나 기록을 하듯이 본인은 식믈 채집을 하여 그것을 그림으로 표현한다. 이러한 채집과 작업의 과정이 본인에게는 위안과 치유가 된다. 그러므로 본인에게 식물 채집의 과정은 작업의 한 과정이라고 볼 수 있다. 식물(나뭇잎, 꽃등)을 채집하는 과정에서부터 그림을 그리는 행위까지 모든 과정이 위안과도 같은 것이라 할 수 있다. 그리고, 식물을 채집하고 그 식물들이 책속에서 변해가는 꽃이나 나뭇잎들을 볼 때 자연의 순환의 경이로움과 허탈함을 느끼고, 또 다시 순환하는 자연의 설레임 등을 느낀다. 그렇게 반복해서 순환하는 과정 모두가 인간의 인생과 같음을 느꼈고, 이렇게 느낀점들을 작품을 통해 연구하였다. 또한, 방법적 연구에서는 자연을 소재로 하는 사례연구를 통하여 본인의 작업과의 연관성을 찾아보았다. 특별히 볼프강 라이프의 꽃가루 작업을 주목하게 되었는데, 볼프강 라이프의 작업을 보면서 자연과의 친밀감과 자연미를 느낄 수 있었다. 그의 꽃가루 작업에서 느껴지는 자연의 순환과 그 순리에 따른 작업과정이 본인의 작업과 연관성이 있어 연구하게 되었다. 그리고 동양인의 미의식 중에서 자연의 순리에 따르고, 자연을 친근하게 생각하는 동양의 자연관이 있어 왔다는 것도 발견하게 되었고, 이런 동양의 자연관을 통하여 한국 미술에 나타난 자연적 소재를 이용한 사례들을 연구하게 되었다. 또, 방법적 연구에서는 진채기법을 통하여 본인의 작업과정을 다시 한 번 살펴보고, 본인의 작업과정에 있어 진채는 어떤 의미이며, 왜 진채를 통해 작업을 하게 되었는지 살펴보았다. 자연(식물)을 소재로 하는 본인의 작업에서 자연의 순환과 식물채집의 의미가 어떠한지를 살펴보고 또, 그러한 자연 순환의 이미지가 본인의 작품 속에 어떻게 표현되었는지를 살펴보았다. 앞으로의 본인의 작업의 기반과 방향을 확실히 하는데 의의를 둔다.
