Abstract

Nowadays the major problem of modern embroidery is that how it can be assimilated and coexisted as plastic art with modern concept of beauty and value. Such a problem is related closely to the rapid change of modern culture and social trend. Extreme development of industry and structure of society have made another modern concept to industrial art, and that brought many changes to embroidery. Embroidery is a branch of industrial art, and the plastic form that embroidery involves is deeply connected with the fine arts. That is a inevitable character of embroidery. In this point of view, the purposes of my experimental research are to express embroidery as modern plastic arts, to find new materials, and to attempt various forms of expression. It is hard to express the entire modern embroidery with ten works, but I mainly expressed it on the ride of the character of materials and emphasized it on the effects coming from different materials. The process of my works set out in view of objectivity, and led it to a side of subjectivity. In other words, not by reviving the nature to be seen itself but by pursuing to find out intrinsic nature, I expressed it with various and pure plastic forms. I equalized the themes of all my works and limited somewhat the way of expression, to I could not attempt various methods of expression. I tried that the status of modern embroidery in plastic art could be firmed by developing materials and selecting various themes.;오늘날 현대자수의 중요한 문제는 어떻게 조형예술로서의 현대적 미의식이나 가치개념에 동화되고 공존하느냐 하는 것이다. 이와 같은 문제는 필연적으로 현대 생활 문명의 급진적 변화와 사회적 추세에 직결된다. 극대화한 산업발전과 사회적 구조는 공예의 새로운 현대적 개념을 파생시켰으며 따라서 자수에 커다란 변모를 가져오게 하였다. 자수는 공예의 여역에 있으면서 그 내포된 조형형식은 순수미술과 깊은 연관성을 갖고 있으며 이것은 자수의 독자적 속성이기도 하다. 본 실험 연구는 자수를 현대 조형 예술로서의 심미성을 나타내보고자 하는데 목적을 두고 폭넓은 소재에서 스케치를 기초로 새로운 재로를 사용하고 다양한 표현 방법을 시도하였다. 10개의 발표 작품은 주로 재질적 측면에서 특성을 살리려고 노력하였으며 재료에 따라 서로 다르게 나타나는 표현방법연구에 중점을 두었다. 작품제작에 있어서는 먼저 어느 객관적인 대상을 설정하고 그것을 자기 나름대로의 주관적 해석에서 독자적인 조형성을 추구하는데 노력하였다. 다시 말해서 자연에 있는 물체를 본대로 재현하는 것이 아니라 그 자연에 내포되고 있는 본질적인 순수한 이념을 표현한 것이라고 할 수 있다. 이 연구가 앞으로의 현대자수에 있어서 재료나 소재의 개발에 따라 다양한 조형적 표현이 확대될 수 있는 기초가 되는데 도움이 되었으며 그 이상 다행이 없겠다.
